  1. Pumpkin Pancakes INGREDIENTS * 1 cups white rice flour * 1/3 cup tapioca starch * 2/3 cup potato starch flour * 3 tablespoons brown sugar * 2 teaspoons baking powder * 1 teaspoon baking soda * 1 teaspoon ground allspice * 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon * 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger * 1/2 teaspoon salt ...
  2. Amy, how did the cookies turn out? Do they taste like the girl scout cookies? We're dying to hear!!!
  3. Likely it was the guar gum that made it crumbly. I'm assuming you didn't adjust the amount??? You have to use more guar gum than xantham gum in recipes. I don't remember what the substitiution formula is though. What does this bread taste like? Does it taste more like the whole grain breads or does it taste more like white bread?
  4. Should you shampoo the carpets? Perhaps. I guess it depends on how old your children are and how good of a job you feel that your vacuum will do. If it's almost time to shampoo the carpet anyway, then I would just go ahead and do it, especially if it's not overly expensive. However, if you weren't planning on shampooing your carpets any time soon, I think...
  5. This is EXACTLY what happens to me if I do a gluten challenge. I thought I was crazy, but you've really hit the nail on the head. I'm glad I'm not alone, but I'm so sorry that you have to go through this. On my last gluten challenge, when I was supposed to get biopsied, it took me about 5 weeks of eating gluten to reach this point. I'm one of those who gets...
  6. When I went gluten free I went from gluten EVERYTHING to no gluten at all, just meat fruits and veggies. I went through horrible withdrawal. After two days I was very sick to my stomach (this was never a Celiac symptom for me), extremely angry for no reason, major headaches, shaky, unsettled feeling... I felt like I had something crawling inside of me tickling...
  7. Egg salad!!! Here's my recipe. If you like egg salad with lots of dill flavor, you will like this recipe. INGREDIENTS * 4 hard-boiled eggs, diced * 1/2 cup Kraft mayonnaise * 2 tablespoons McCormick minced onion * 1/4 teaspoon salt * 1/2 teaspoon McCormick mustard powder * 1/8 teaspoon McCormick garlic powder * 1/...
  8. I did it too. I agree with gfp... Gluten free should mean gluten free. I will likely not trust labels anymore if they keep in at the 20ppm level. That would be a real shame. I'll have to go back to eating only meats, fruits, and vegetables. Ugh...
  9. Michelle, pediatricians are horrible about scaring you and making you feel guilty, aren't they?!?!?! It's like we don't feel guilty enough when our kids get hurt. Do we really need them to add insult to injury? I understand they're just trying to prevent accidents, but come on...
  10. Mission corn tortillas are gluten free and very good. They're marked gluten free right on the bag. They sell them at Wal-mart.
  11. Funny that you mention that... It's probably because of signs like the one Michelle posted that she saw in her pediatricians office. Parents are constantly being judged by everyone around them, including their own parents and family. It makes it hard NOT to try to be perfect. That being said, I know I'm far from perfect and my daughter loves me just how I...
  12. Gluten free bacon Ketchup Onions and cheese Cheese Green peppers and onions ham cubes tater tots
  13. I imagine they would work fine in a deep fryer. Let me know how it turns out.
  14. You're going to love these! They're really good with honey for dipping. Even Tori, who's really picky, devoured her four pieces. Don said they taste just like real fried chicken. I thought they were reminiscent of KFC in terms of texture. This is definitely the best breaded chicken I've tried since going gluten free.
  15. Amanda, if you see Kaboom anywhere near us, let me know! I'm dying to have a marshmallow cereal again. I really miss Lucky Charms. That was one of my favorites in my gluten days. I bought the Mickey Mouse clubhouse cereal for Tori, but I haven't opened it yet. It just kind of looks like colored, flavored rice crispies without the malt flavoring.
  16. After our trip to Disney I was determined to make "real" fried chicken. I definitely accomplished it!!! This is even better than the fried chicken that was made for me at MGM studios. It's the real deal. INGREDIENTS * 1-1/2 cups rice flour * 1-1/2 teaspoons salt * 1/4 teaspoon paprika * 1-1/2 teaspoons garlic powder * 1-1/2...
  17. Hit up your local movie theater and pig out on popcorn. Of course, you'll want to call first to verify whether or not the popcorn is gluten free. Our theater's popcorn is and many others are as well. You could curl up on the couch with a few good friends and a big tub of Edy's ice cream (their website tells you which products are gluten free) and watch...
  18. Eating out is always risky, especially at a fast food restaurant. Don't expect the workers to have any clue what gluten is, not even the managers. If you're careful and only order things that are gluten free you have a decent chance of not getting sick. Use this link Open Original Shared Link to determine which foods are gluten free.
  19. Kinnikinnick makes the BEST bagels, breads, cinnamon rolls, and cookies. Their flours are very good as well if you're into baking. I personally don't care for anything Ener-G foods makes, especially their bagels. Lays Stax are made on dedicated lines, but not in a dedicated facility. Some have reported feeling glutened after eating them. Gibbles potato...
  20. Man, and my husband already thinks I'm neurotic about escalators. I don't know why, but they freak me out. I guess it's because of all the emphasis my parents put on being careful on them. I really hate using them. I use stairs whenever possible.
  21. There are no oats or oat flour listed as an ingredient on general Mills' website: Open Original Shared Link.. I've never seen Kaboom. I thought maybe it was one of the brand new cereals.
  22. Has anyone heard of a General Mills cereal called Kaboom? It's on their website and appears to be gluten free. It's a corn based cereal with marshmallows in it. Yum! It sounds great. I really miss my Lucky Charms. Is General Mills one of those companies that will list any and all gluten?
  23. Definitely contact the cruise company beforehand. Many cruise ships can accomodate a gluten free diet. 10 days may be enough time for them to ensure they have plenty of gluten free food. Enjoy your trip!
  24. Yeah... Only a second... I felt so guilty for not forcing her to put her shoes on. I probably should have known better than to let her walk around without shoes on. I'm just so relieved that she's okay. There was about half an hour where we weren't sure. It was bleeding badly enough that we couldn't tell if all of her toe was there. Then, when the bleeding...
  25. I definitely would NOT use them. They could very easily get into your mouth and cause a reaction. I exchanged all of my lotions that I got for Christmas for body wash. Most of the body washes don't contain gluten. I think some of the body creams and body butters may also be gluten free, but I'm not sure.
