I don't think the World's Healthiest Foods website sells organic produce, if that's what you mean by the source. About the food labeling laws...I believe they only apply to packaged food, not produce. I think there's a whole lot of stuff in conventional produce that's not disclosed. Ya know, the word casein kind of jumped out at me there, but on...

If you're casein intolerant, this might be of interest: "Conventionally grown cucumbers, like other fragile vegetables, may be waxed to protect them from bruising during shipping. Plant, insect, animal or petroleum-based waxes may be used. Carnauba palm is the most common plant-source wax. Other compounds, such as ethyl alcohol or ethanol, are added to...

ARCHIVED Cross-reactivity?
Mango04 replied to slpinsd's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That's exactly what I did. I was trying to experiment with dairy so I ate small amounts of gluten-free rice cheese that had casein in it. I definitley reacted. The reactions were minor, but enough for me to know I shouldn't eat casein. Just make sure to pay attention to things beyond the GI issues. One of the things that happens to me when I eat casein... -

Has anyone else noticed this about the Bob's Red Mill Flour at Whole Foods? Maybe it's just the San Diego Whole Foods. It just doesn't make sense to me. On the shelves, the bags of Bob's gluten-free flour are placed right next to the pure vital wheat gluten - like in the sense that there are only two very thin pieces of plastic bag separating pure... -
ARCHIVED Salad Dressing
Mango04 replied to mbg98's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
All the dairy intolerant people who miss ranch should try the ranch dressing made out of cashews. You just put cashews in a blender with a few other ingredients and it is amazing. I put it on everything. I even put it on Tinkyada pasta once All of my gluten and dairy-eating friends love it too. I think Tarnalberry posted a recipe for it. It is sooooo... -
ARCHIVED Salad Dressing

I use Annie's. Organicville is pretty good too and makes a great gluten-free Goddess dressing (but the Annie's Goddess dressing has gluten). Both will label gluten-free on the bottle. -
That's EXACTLY how I feel about it!

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Feel Good At All?
Mango04 replied to Carolita's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had symptoms off and on for my whole life until I was 22, but really horrible symptoms for about six months before I started the diet. I have been gluten-free for almost three years. I had the dizzy problems you describe as well. I don't know if it's a coincidence but once I started following "The Metabolic Typing Diet" the dizziness went away... -

Hi - I feel awesome on a gluten, dairy and soy-free diet. There is hope! -
ARCHIVED Favorite Shopping Place?
Mango04 replied to lisaemu's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Whole Foods (they get way too much of my paycheck)...and the Organic People's Co-op (for cheaper organic produce) and the vegan market (for random gluten-free raw foodist type stuff). I used to love Trader Joe's but I got sick of having to buy pre-packaged produce. -
You might want to try some of the raw vegan cheesecakes. They are waaayyy more exciting than they sound, and gluten, dairy, soy and egg-free! I've had some that are seriously amazing.

I discovered my casein intolerance much sooner than I discovered my gluten intolerance. I'm now to the point where avoiding dairy is just not that big of a deal. Try to stay completely casein-free for several months. You might find that once it's out of your system, you'll cravings will majorly subside, or completely go away. I used to be a dairy addict...

ARCHIVED I'm A Celiac For Attention
Mango04 replied to IntensePort's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I definitely think there are certain people who don't want to believe us, because if they did, they might have to start believing in their own health problems that they'd rather just ignore. Beyond that, I have no idea why other people care what we're not eating. We're simply not putting a certain substance into our bodies. Whyyyy does anyone care? ... -
ARCHIVED Question For The Expert Bakers
Mango04 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'll preface this by saying when I comes to baking, I obviously don't know what I'm doing. I just made some muffins, which are surprisingly really good. I want to make them again, but I want to modify the recipe a bit to try and make them less dense and chewy. So, my question is this: What is it that causes that dense texture? Does it have to do... -

Mango04 replied to Mango04's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I actually get quite excited and spend ridiculous amounts of money when I see the long stretches of "free." LOL. I had to laugh when I looked at the back of the package, where they refer to wheat, dairy, eggs etc. as "controversial ingredients." I'm actually amazed by what can be done with just almonds, coconut, xylitol, rice, agave, chocolate....my... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease & Weaked Tendons?

I had tendonitis constantly when I was eating gluten. I was also doing lots of ballet, so it's hard to tell what actually caused it. Hmmm...interesting... -

They make up for over excessive use of the word "free" by charging $2.59 per little tiny cookie. That's what Whole Foods charges for it anyway. I just bought the "Holistic Chocolate Chip." Pretty good.... Open Original Shared Link -
That's a frustrating situation but I can relate. I've never tested positive for anything (except a celiac gene) but when I eat gluten, dairy, soy and processed foods I feel horrible. If I stay off those foods I feel great! I think our bodies tell us more than those dang tests anyway.

I just got a juicer a few days ago and so far I looove it! I've made apple cucumber juice, orange carrot and this morning I made some sort of apple, celery, carrot, orange, ginger combo. Yum! I am not a morning person but I somehow managed to make the juice and clean the thing in the few minutes I had before leaving for work this morning. It's really...

ARCHIVED Corn Tortilla
Mango04 replied to Cin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I put them in the oven for a few minutes to heat them up. Then I put mayo, gluten-free turkey, a carrot stick and a cucumber stick, salt and pepper and roll it up. Sometimes I add avocado in addition to, or instead of the carrot and cucumber. I like the Food for Life sprouted corn tortillas the best. Sometimes I also put scrambled eggs in... -
ARCHIVED Gluten And Lactose-free Bc Pills?
Mango04 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Anyone know of a birth control pill that is both gluten and lactose free? I've tried Yasmin and Alesse. Both give me horrible side effects and unless I'm misunderstanding the ingredients I believe they both have some sort of lactose component. Thanks. -
