ARCHIVED Smart Balnce Butter - Not Df, But Cf? Huh?
Mango04 replied to VydorScope's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You might want to consider picking up a tub of Earth Balance next time you're at Wild Oats. It's gooooood. I would honestly put it on everything if I could handle that much soy (it contains a little bit of soy protein). Much much better than any other DF/gluten-free options out there, IMO. -
ARCHIVED Just Ate Something With Gluten In It
Mango04 replied to carriecraig's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry! Don't let the worrying make you sicker than the glutening! I hope you're okay. -

ARCHIVED All Hail Chebe!
Mango04 replied to penguin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The Foccacia is good! It's great dipped in homemade bruschetta (sp?) I made the breadsticks once and ate way way too many. I felt like a big ball of tapioca for like a week afterwards...but it was worth it. Chebe is my one exception to my not really ever eating any type of bread rule For the CF folks, make sure you get the packages that... -

ARCHIVED Vegetarian Vs Eating Meat
Mango04 replied to schuyler's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Here's some more info just to throw a different perspective out there. Don't shoot me. I didn't write it Consider that Weston A. Price traveled the globe studying the diets of native societies in the 1930’s while there were still natives untouched by white man and his processed foods (Nutrition & Physical Degeneration by W.A. Price). His primary r... -

ARCHIVED So What Do You Do When You Can't Sleep?
Mango04 replied to megsylvan2's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Here are some ideas that help me: Burn lavendar oil Unplug everything in your bedroom, or at least the things right by your bed. Electromagnetic fields affect some people's sleep. Make sure your room is completely dark Drink Camomile tea - it won't hurt your stomach Practice breathing excercises. Inhale and exhale deeply and count your breaths... -
ARCHIVED Proactiv Solution For Acne
Mango04 replied to jmengert's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anyone have any other suggestions for acne? Maybe I should start another thread? I've tried acutane, Proactiv, lots of perscription stuff, Peter Thomas Roth, Elicina...basically everything...and I have to be on bc pills at all times or I break out in huge cystic acne all over the place. Yeah, it's pretty I'm kind of perplexed by the whole thing... -
ARCHIVED Tested Negative For Celiac
Mango04 replied to Mo92109's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You could have non-celiac gluten intolerance. You'll be hard pressed to get that particular diagnosis from a mainstream doctor. If you know you feel better when you don't eat gluten, don't eat gluten Trust what your body is telling you. Don't even go on the gluten challenge if you know a teensy bit is giving you trouble... Another possibility is... -
ARCHIVED Breakfast, gluten-free, Low Carb, High Protein, Ideas Needed
Mango04 replied to VydorScope's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Clif Nectar bars aren't crispy, but the flavor is good. The chocolate ones are great if you like chocolate. I like them much better than Lara Bars. Haven't tried Bumble Bars but I'm thinking they are on the crispier side... -
ARCHIVED Breakfast, gluten-free, Low Carb, High Protein, Ideas Needed
Mango04 replied to VydorScope's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Okay I'm going to consider this one of the great little secrets I learned from this board. After reading that this morning I went to Whole Foods during my luch hour and picked up some chocolate Clif Nectar Bars and a jar of peanut butter. So good!!! Thanks for the idea. I probably wouldn't have thought of it. -
ARCHIVED House Tv Show Will Feature Celiac Disease
Mango04 replied to irish's topic in Publications & Publicity
Ha! That's great. I've decided after reading all this that if I had to chose between people thinking gluten makes me a psychopath....or people thinking I'm a psychopath for avoiding gluten to such an extreme extent...I'd chose the first option -
ARCHIVED Scared Of Getting Glutened While Away
Mango04 replied to Moongirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The best way to prevent a glutening is to always always always have safe food on hand. Carry food around with you everywhere you go (whether it's gluten-free bars in your purse, almonds, or whatever). That way you won't ever get too hungry, which can tempt you to eat food you might be unsure of. Only eat what you know is 100% safe! You also might want... -
ARCHIVED Smart Balnce Butter - Not Df, But Cf? Huh?

Whey and casein are different, but you should probably stay away from whey if you're having problems with dairy. -
ARCHIVED Smart Balnce Butter - Not Df, But Cf? Huh?

I think they're saying all except the three they mentioned are completely DF. -
ARCHIVED House Tv Show Will Feature Celiac Disease
Mango04 replied to irish's topic in Publications & Publicity
I'm sure if we knew more about the other diseases House features, we could nitpick those episodes as well. This episode conveyed the seriousness of Celiac, which is great. We're always complaining that people don't take us seriously.... The little details they didn't get perfectly right don't matter all that much. Most people won't remember them anyway... -
ARCHIVED Lactose Intolerance Vanishing

Welcome to the gluten-free world, where words like "Tinkyada" are normal. Tinkyada is the best gluten-free pasta! You won't know it's gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Vegetarian Vs Eating Meat
Mango04 replied to schuyler's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You might try limiting the soy. I believe tofu is one of those things that can mimic gluten - the molecular structure of the protein becomes similar to gluten and can cause the same types of reactions in your body. It's worth a shot. Here's some random yet interesting info. vegetarianism: Open Original Shared Link I don't neccesarily take one side... -
If you buy more fresh veggies, and less packaged food, you'll be surprised at how much your grocery bill goes down. For example, organic carrots are $.75/pound. I can buy enough carrots to last me an entire week for less than two bucks. I buy that instead of a box of gluten-free crackers, which would cost about $4...and well you get my point....

"The Metabolic Typing Diet" is a really helpful book. It helps each individual person find the correct carb:protein:fat ratios for them. It's not a fad diet or anything like that. It's worth picking up and reading if you get a chance.

ARCHIVED I've Been Glutened!
Mango04 replied to emcmaster's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Maybe that much processed, canned mexican food just didn't sit with you right? ...or it could haven been too much spicy-ness??? -
If you haven't been feeling right, you might want to be careful with commercial salad dressings that are full of things like high fructose corn syrup and such.

ARCHIVED gluten-free Nail Polish

If you're very sensitive it could chip off and get into your food or something like that. Many people here make sure all of their products are gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED All-natural Deodorant?
Mango04 replied to Mango04's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
No problem. Some deodorants might contain gluten. I was specifically looking for all-natural gluten-free deodorants...and yeah I'm worried about the antipersperants causing cancer too.
