ARCHIVED Started Gluten Free Diet, Having Bloating!
bluejeangirl replied to cbnanny's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
At the health food store I go to they would throw in samples in the bag when I checked out. One sample was a packet of emergen C super energy booster which contained 1,000 mg of vit. c and 7 mineral ascorbates. I almost mixed it up when I thought I'd read the ingred. and sure enough it said it contained wheat. Whew I was so close. You might call or check... -
ARCHIVED What Are You Craving?
bluejeangirl replied to angel-jd1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sometimes when I eat gluten free stuff that looks and tastes like the real stuff I feel like I'm cheating and have to fight feeling guilty. Also I'll have dreams that I'm eating bread or cookies and wake up horrified. lol I could go for a chile dog. I'd probably have three and be thirsty all night. Gail -
ARCHIVED Martha Stewart Gluten Free Segment
bluejeangirl replied to floridanative's topic in Publications & Publicity
It was funny watching Martha eating like it was the best chocolate cupcake she ever had. It did look good. Do you think it has to be sweetened with the nector stuff or can I just use sugar. She uses sugar in the bread. Gail -

ARCHIVED The Co$t Of Shopping Right
bluejeangirl replied to Aizlynn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Guhlia-thats how I eat. I can say you'll be healthier for it but yes my grocery bill is high. We don't go out to eat anymore so I guess its a wash for my family. We'd easily spend $80 a weekend eating out before gluten free days. One tip is to make soups. I'll buy a package of chicken legs and make my own chicken broth. A package of maybe six will... -
ARCHIVED Okay, It's Confirmed, I Have A Sick Sense Of Humour!
bluejeangirl replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
When they told him she burned to death, he then almost lost his mind? How could he expected anything else when he left her burning ran around in the streets and then taking the time to knock the door down to find her and the whole basement engulfed in flames. I wonder if Nancy would in her cynical tone suspect him of murder.... C'mon lol ... -
ARCHIVED Soes Anyone Grind Their Own Flour?
bluejeangirl replied to AmyTopolski's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've used my cuisinart for softer grains like millet, nuts for nut flours and safe oats for oat flour. I don't think I'll try brown rice with it though. Gail -

My husbands friend who is a personal trainer in a up scale training gym puts people on gluten free diets all the time. He loses weight when he goes on it and loves it. My husband also lost wt. on it and feels better then ever. My youngest son (22) decided to go gluten free because he wanted to see what all the fuss was about and he's losing wt. and telling...

ARCHIVED Maintain A Healthy Bowel?
bluejeangirl replied to sewfunky's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
For example you can have... Have fruit every morning and try to vary it. I buy apples, pears, oranges the most and I buy frozen blueberries, cherries and raspberries. I have about a cup of one of these in the morning and sometimes as a snack in the afternoon. Have a bowl of cereal or gluten-free toast. Have a salad for lunch with a protein portion... -

ARCHIVED Why Did Cutting Out Gluten Is Making It Hard For Me To Sleep?
bluejeangirl replied to goofy01girl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I did the paleo diet last summer and I didn't sleep good at all. I think its just the reduction in carbs. When I do have a high carb meal like spaghetti sauce on tinkyada spaghetti noodles and have a big o'plate full, I'll sleep for 8 to 9 hrs. So I'll do that if I haven't been sleeping good for awhile. I usually get about 6 to 7 hrs. and about once or... -
ARCHIVED Hypermobile Joints - Ehlers Danlos
bluejeangirl replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks for the info raven. I have loose ligaments and especially right before my period it gets bad. I think its the same hormone that's released at the end of the pregnancy? I'll wake up with neck and hip pain just if I don't change positions alot. Even though I can bend further then most people it doesn't mean its good for me cause it does cause joint... -
I would blame the coffee. Its better to have it on an empty stomach. It can cause troubles digesting your meal otherwise. Cough drops may be a problem and I've heard they don't do that much good. They don't stop you from coughing and if its to lubricate your throat just any hard candy will do. Gail

ARCHIVED Problems Eating Vitamins?
bluejeangirl replied to Yenni's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have a hard time with any B vitamins. They make me nauseous. I'm pretty sure its the B vits. that make you wired. I know you shouldn't take them with you evening meal if you have trouble sleeping. Make sure your increasing your calories if your activity levels go up. If you drop to low it takes a long time to recover. Also eat a small snack (mostly... -
ARCHIVED Happy Times! I Feel So Much Better!
bluejeangirl replied to rutland's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thats wonderful Stef! I feel better when I stay away from grains also. Giving up dairy was very hard though,....I still cheat with that one with a little cheese here and there. If I was just grocery shopping for me I'd literally would just need to shop the perimeter of the store except for olive oil. They've been tellling us to do that for years, and... -
ARCHIVED Low Sugar Appetizers/treats
bluejeangirl replied to lonewolf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The chex-mix sounds good....I haven't made that gluten free yet. I'll be making that and I always add red pepper to the spice mix. Popcorn with parmesan cheese is quick and easy. Refried black beans with chips. Quesidillas cut in wedges. Served with guac. Potato wedges baked with olive oil, grated lemon rind, fresh rosemarry, salt and served... -
We'll be watching the Packers beat the Bears and eating a millet/flax crust pizza with maybe a grist beer. It may be Brett Favre's last game if he decides not to play next year. I'll be in bed by midnight I'm sure. I usually wake up early no matter what time I go to bed so I'll have to see if there's any New Years days sales in the mall. Happy New...

ARCHIVED Maybe Eating Boxed Cereal Isn't What We Should Choose.
bluejeangirl posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I thought I would post this here since many of us will try and clean up our diets as a new years resolution. What do you think of this article? It really amazed me...would love to hear any comments. Sorry animals were used to test results. Gail Open Original Shared Link -
What I decided to do was just eat healthy and not even try to make desserts. I don't really crave them anyway. I treat for me is to have extra carbs like a big slice of gluten free pizza or two. I usually go low carb thru the week. For Christmas my treat will be to have that new beer called red bridge that everyone is talking about. I can feel like one...

ARCHIVED Night Time Food Cravings
bluejeangirl replied to rutland's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Stef, When my stomach feels that way it's usually because of acid buildup. I get that way frequently, and it feels like your stomach has undigested food but not necessarily so its the acid that makes you feel full. I would eat a bigger supper and try time it so your going to bed about 4 hrs later. I would skip the snack because it interferes with suppers... -
ARCHIVED The Paranoia Has Set In...
bluejeangirl replied to 2wheels4eyes's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hey 2wheels, You have a wonderful sense of humor although I know going through the learning period is no laughing matter. It been almost a year now for me and realizing that c.c. happens to me. I thought I was above it. I will have to break down and get my own toaster and breadboard this week. Its sad but yeah most people won't understand how...
