People's immune systems may respond atypically or eccentrically to a given threat. One-sized diagnostic tools don't fit everyone. One important lab that should be run (but very often isn't) every time someone gets antibody testing done is "total IGA". If total IGA is low it will skew downward the numbers of individual IGA tests such as the tTG-IGA. Here is...

Are Celiac Disease Drug Treatments Just a Pipe Dream?
trents commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Additional Concerns
Judging from what we see on this forum from user input abou these kinds of altered wheat/barley products, whether it be beer or pizza, where the gluten has supposedly been almost all removed, is that they work for the majority of celiacs but not for hypersensitive element of our community. We get a lot of comments to the effect that people are still being...- 32 comments

Gluten Ataxia / Hypotonia (Low Muscle Tone)

Great analogy! Made me laugh! Have you had hypotonia from infancy or was the onset later in life? -
Gluten Ataxia / Hypotonia (Low Muscle Tone)
trents replied to Brent22's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Brent, welcome to the forum! Hypotonia can have many causes. What is your age and have your physicians been able to diagnose a cause apart from a gluten-related disorder? I have not heard specifically of hypertonia in connection to gluten-related disorders. But it seems new connections between celiac disease/NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity... -
There are some other medical conditions and some medications even that can cause weak positive tTG-IGA scores. But we actually sometimes see the case where tTG-IGA was negative but the biopsy turns out to be positive. The tTG-IGA is far from being a perfect test for celiac disease. It misses 20% of those of white, European decent who actually do have celiac...

The Mayo clinic guidelines for the pretest gluten challenge is the daily consumption of two slices of wheat bread (or the equivalent) for 6-8 weeks leading up to blood antibody testing and for two weeks leading up to an endoscopy/biopsy in order to ensure valid test results. I certainly would ask the GI doc doing the biopsy how many samples he takes and from...

Are Celiac Disease Drug Treatments Just a Pipe Dream?

I'm thinking along the lines of some kind of gene therapy. Now that we have the genome gun it seems like a possibility. Another line of research I haven't heard anything on in a few years is modification of the gluten gene in the wheat/barley/rye itself to produce varieties with the baking qualities desired but which are harmless to celiacs.- 32 comments

Maybe you should be tested for celiac disease? Because of the upper right left side upper quadrant abdominal pain it seems like someone should have done an endoscopy by now to actually look at the stomach with a scope. While they are doing that they could take biopsies of you duodenum and duodenum bulb to check for villi damage from celiac disease. Are you...

Facial pain
trents replied to CeliacMom502's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
In addition to celiac disease, she could have other food allergies or intolerances. Might be a good idea to get an ALCAT food allergy test done. I suffer from migraines/cluster headaches and most of mine seem triggered by congestion and I have ton of food allergies as well as air born. Congestion mostly manifests itself during the night when I'm sleeping... -
Facial pain
trents replied to CeliacMom502's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This is the first time I have heard of cheek pain in the celiac population but we are learning more about celiac disease all the time and the great variety of symptoms it produces. By the way, welcome to the forum, CeliacMom502! How badly damaged were the villi of the small bowel? Is she on any vitamin and mineral supplements? -

From Corona's website: "Corona Extra, Corona Light, Corona Familiar, and Corona Premier are made from malted barley which naturally contains gluten. The fermentation process significatively lowers its content, however, there are traces of gluten in Corona Extra, Corona Light, Corona Familiar, and Corona Premier." https://www.coronausa.com/pages/faqs So...- 32 comments

increased insulin dosage after gluten free diet?
trents replied to Flaco's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Dennis, most gluten-free processed foods are high in carbs, lower in fiber and practically devoid of nutrition. gluten-free flours are not required to be enriched with vitamins and minerals as are their gluten counterparts. I'm wondering if this may be the issue. I also think that people with undiagnosed celiac disease may be instinctively cutting back on... -

"Ingredients: Water, Barley Malt, Non-malted Cereals, Hops" https://spoonfulapp.com/products/corona-premier-mexican-lager-light-beer-6-pk-12-fl-oz-bottles-4-0-abv/MDAzMzU0NDk1MDQxOA==?diet=gluten-free Dina, barley malt contains gluten. This beer product is not gluten free. I would caution you to assume that just because you don't detect a gluten reaction...- 32 comments

Welcome to the forum, lupusliving89! Have you been tested for celiac disease, either by serum antibody testing or endoscopy/biopsy of the small bowel lining? Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder and so is lupus. There is a statistical correlation between the two. Did they put you on a PPI for the GERD? If it doesn't help, drop it. PPIs raise...

Are Celiac Disease Drug Treatments Just a Pipe Dream?

I think this excerpt from the article is very important: "The 2022 report reveals a greater sense of urgency from gastroenterologists versus the 2021 report. Indeed, the number of respondents in the 2022 survey who say that their celiac patient load has increased in the past year, is up by 60% over 2021." 60% increase in celiac patient load in one year...- 32 comments

Another thing to consider that is common among celiacs is histamine intolerance. This is something I personally struggle with. Cells that line the gut produce a natural antihistamine called DAO (diamine oxidase). These cells may be damaged/destroyed by the gut inflammation that accompanies celiac disease. Histamines are produced by our body as part of the...

Bone remineralization should happen at your age I would think if you maintain a strict gluten-free diet. It would also be important in that regard for you to begin some serious vitamin and mineral supplementation. Make sure you purchase vitamin and mineral products that are certified gluten-free as wheat starch can be used as a filler in pills. Costco's Nature...

Elisec5678, welcome to the forum! Yes, your tTG-IGA at 64 is clearly positive. Concerning the biopsy report, celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that causes inflammation in the lining of the small bowel when gluten is ingested. This lining consists of a landscape of tiny finger-like protrusions that create an extensive surface area for absorbing...

Yes, I was taking ropinerole while suffering from RLS. When I quit taking the statin the RLS disappeared and there was no more need for the ropinerole. I researched it and did find a connection between RLS and taking statins but it is not a common side effect of statins which are anti-cholesterol medications.

Welcome to the forum, Victoria! If you are in or near a large metro area with a significant potential customer base and worked up a convincing business plan it is conceivable that banks would be open to extending you a loan to start up this business. I'm not in the UK so I don't know if there are government subsidies for such startups or not. Concerning...

Are you taking a statin by any chance? I suffered from RLS that quit as soon as I quit my statin drug.
