Stomach discomfort while lying down
trents replied to Rosanne Pawl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Welcome to the forum, Rosanne! Some common health conditions that accrue from unattended celiac disease are GERD and SIBO. For the GERD, you might try elevating the head of your bed at least 15 degrees and sleeping more on your back. SIBO would likely require an antibiotic. Also, it sounds like you re new to the gluten-free diet. It's easy to eliminate... -
Cautions for Coffee and Caffeine Drinkers
trents commented on Lauren Lindsey's article in Additional Concerns
And yet, coffee has also been touted for being practically a super food, chocked full of antioxidants: https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/top-evidence-based-health-benefits-of-coffee#8.-Could-increase-longevity And most of these benefits accrue for those who drink multiple cups a day. Like many things, there are those who have certain health and... -
Do you empty your bladder completely at night when you pee? Have you been checked for enlarged prostate? Have you had a bladder cystoscopy? Have you been checked for diabetes? I have not heard of these kinds of symptoms in connection with celiac disease so I would assume it is something else.

A recent research article posted on the forum showed that 20% of people of white European decent confirmed to have celiac disease by biopsy and 80% of people of black African decent having celiac disease confirmed by biopsy produced negative tTG-IGA scores. Also, Scott recently posted a summary of the articles published on this forum over the years connecting...

Looking for opinions
trents replied to Jules04528's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum, Jules! Yes. Stopping gluten almost a month ago would likely cause antibody levels to drop significantly. The Mayo Clinic guidelines for the pretest gluten challenge is the daily consumption of two slices of wheat bread (or the equivalent) for 6-8 weeks leading up to the blood draw for antibody testing and for two weeks leading up to... -
Facial pain
trents replied to CeliacMom502's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, it is so frustrating that celiac disease is not yet on most physicians' radar! Most of them are still stuck back in the dark ages of celiac disease knowledge base and if there are not classic GI symptoms it just doesn't occur to them. So far, the efforts to develop a celiac "pill" have met failure. Maybe it would be a better investment of resources... -
Are Celiac Disease Drug Treatments Just a Pipe Dream?
trents commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Additional Concerns
Well, you seem to be the expert in all this and want to take control here so go ahead. In my recommendation of Red Bridge I was just giving a simple answer to a simple question which was can anyone recommend a truly gluten-free beer? Red Bridge fills that criteria.- 32 comments

Welcome to the forum, statguymark! Your biggest challenge will be learning to eat gluten-free. There is a significant learning curve but eventually you develop sort of a sixth sense as to where gluten may be found in the food supply, medications, supplements, etc. Part of it is terminology and another part is avoiding cross contamination ("CC" as we...

Welcome to the forum, Cramper! It is unfortunate that your physician only ordered one test for celiac disease. There are a number of others that could have been run and should have been run. We call this collection of tests a "full celiac panel". In addition, if you had been avoiding gluten or cut way back on it prior to the testing it would invalidate...

Having said all that I have previously said, your symptoms scream of celiac disease.

Are Celiac Disease Drug Treatments Just a Pipe Dream?
trents commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Additional Concerns
Then those beers would need to be made from non gluten grains or other carbohydrate rich sources. I don't think it's possible or at least economically feasible to remove all traces of gluten from gluten-containing grains. Yes, you can lower the gluten content enough to qualify for "gluten free" (less than 20ppm) but not totally eliminate it like you can ...- 32 comments

Please hear this! If you are planning to go forward with the endoscopy/biopsy to confirm the suspected celiac diagnosis then you would need to go back to eating regular amounts of gluten up until the day of the procedure. Eliminating gluten before celiac disease testing allows inflammation to subside and healing to begin in the lining of the small bowel....

Unless you are an ultra sensitive celiac it probably will be safe. -
Are Celiac Disease Drug Treatments Just a Pipe Dream?

I've never been a beer connoisseur but from what I remember about beer before having celiac disease, Red Bridge tastes pretty much the same as it's gluten counterpart. But then, I'm not picky about things like that. In fact, I can get along fine with artificial sweeteners instead of sugar in food. I really don't drink beer anymore. I can do without the empty...- 32 comments

Welcome to the forum, vjacinto! Are you saying your were gluten free for two weeks before you had the test done or has the two weeks of gluten free eating come after the blood draw? If you started gluten free eating before the test, or were cutting back on gluten, it would have likely lowered the test numbers. I take it that the Immunoglobulin A...

Trigeminal nerve issues crossed my mind as well. -
Well. let me first applaud you for being your own advocate. The NP is correct, however, in that the biopsy is the more reliable dx test. I hope you do follow through on your intentions to ask question about the thoroughness of the biopsy process. Continue to eat regular amounts of gluten until the biopsy is over.

I haven't heard that that there is a statistical correlation between BPD and celiac disease specifically but it is well-established that there is a connection between celiac disease and some other mental health disorders such as depression and, I think, anxiety disorder. These would fit under the general heading, perhaps, of neurological disorders tied to...

Lab interpretation
trents replied to LAF14614's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'll answer the second question first. There is another gluten-related disorder known as NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) which shares many of the same symptoms with celiac disease, is 10x more common than celiac disease, but for which there is no definitive test. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. NCGS does not damage the villi of the small bowel... -

trents replied to LAF14614's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
LAF14614, welcome to the forum! Your high GLIADIN (DEAMIDATED) AB (IGA) strongly suggests celiac disease but doesn't rule out other causes. "More than 9 in 10 people with untreated celiac disease have higher-than-normal levels of DMG antibodies. But very few people without the disease do." https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/encyclopedia/content.aspx... -
