Bitters for digestion?
trents replied to AnnaNZ's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Which one of those pains are you still experiencing? Under the rib pain? Joint pain? Since you eliminated gluten starting in August, I would think anything gluten related would be much better or gone by now. -
Bitters for digestion?

Expected? Pain is not normal and has a cause. -
This isn't advertised as gluten free but it's much easier on the stomach than regular coffee if acidity is causing you issues with regular coffee. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=folgers+smooth+low+acid+coffee&crid=TXBA3SC880KX&sprefix=low+acid+fol%2Caps%2C158&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_2_12

If I drank three large mugs of water in the evening I would have to get up to pee six times or more and not sleep much at all.

Bitters for digestion?

Welcome to the forum, Anna! Have you considered NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) as opposed to celiac disease? Also, it sounds to me like you have other food sensitivities/intolerances. Have you looked into the AIP (Autoimmune Protocol Diet)? I would also suggest keep a food diary to see if you can spot patterns between what you eat when and the... -
I suspect your doctor was unaware of the factoid shared by Russ H. Also, modern medicine and the payer system are totally driven by statistics and efficiency. If it isn't likely it gets tossed out because they won't invest the time necessary to deal with things outside the box. It's economically inefficient to do so.

Essentially all the "veteran" celiacs on this forum will tell you that there is woeful knowledge about celiac disease within the medical community as a whole. My own diagnostic journey took the medical profession 13 years to arrive at the right conclusion. It started with the discovery of elevated liver enzymes that caused the rejection of a Red Cross blood...

Let me challenge you on what seems to be your assumption that if you have NCGS instead of celiac disease that you don't have to be careful about cross contamination. We see this all the time on the forum. NCGS itself can lead to some serious damage to body systems. An example would be non celiac gluten induced neuropathy. We don't know as much about the immune...

Welcome to the forum, Shelby! First, can you be more specific about which antibody test or tests were run and which one was positive? There are a number of antibody tests that can be used to detect celiac disease. Some are considered more specific for celiac disease while not being particularly sensitive. Some are less specific but more sensitive. Can...

Test results?
trents replied to Andiecat46's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
To thwart spam, the window for editing a post as when adding a picture later on is very short. If you start a new post and attach the pic quickly you should be able to do it. You can use the paper clip tool at the bottom of the new post window or the three dots in the upper right corner. If that doesn't work, just type the test results in. Make sure you include... -
Don't worry about "coeliac" and "mum". We're used to it. A very high percentage of our forum participants are from the UK. In the UK, the doctors commonly only run one antibody test for celiac disease when doing the initial screen and that is the tTG-IGA. The fact is, there are several other antibody tests that could be run for a more complete panel...

Certain medical disorders like celiac disease and MC may require us to make significant changes to our dietary habits and preferences but that is not the same as eliminating all foods. It seems to me that you still have plenty of choices, though they may not match up well with what you are used to consuming.

Brain Aneurysm
trents replied to dustinwes's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum, Dustin! First, let me explain that celiac disease is not an allergy, it's an autoimmune disorder that causes the small bowel to react to gluten as an invader. Celiac disease is often referred to as "gluten intolereance". There is another gluten-related disorder known as NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) or just "gluten sensitivity... -
Cristiana's warning about eating out is to be heeded. Studies show that eating out is the #1 underminer of eating gluten free. You can order gluten free food at the restaurant but they will often cook it in the same pots and on the same grill that they use for wheat things or serve it with the same utensils. I also want to draw your attention to the...

Help with recent test results
trents replied to Ellis Aust's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My liver enzymes normalized quickly after I implemented the gluten free diet. I'd say within three months. Ellis, it seems to me the big thing you need to take away from all this is your need to get serious about eating gluten free, whether or not you first opt to undergo the gluten challenge and get a biopsy done. By your own admission you are not gluten... -
Welcome to the forum, Mads98! Could also be a cross reaction (different than cross contamination) to another food whose protein component is similar enough to gluten that it triggers the same reaction. Common cross reactors in the celiac community are oats, dairy and eggs. The transglutaminase (aka, "meat glue") in formed meat products is also a cross reactor...

Welcome to the forum, ballerina96! We sometimes see this pattern of antibody test results for those who have already started on the gluten free diet or who just don't eat much gluten anyway. That is, elevated IGG with other antibody tests being negative. And five days of concentrated gluten intake prior to the antibody testing blood draw is not likely...

Help with recent test results
trents replied to Ellis Aust's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum, Ellis Aust! Yes. If I was a betting man I'd put my money on you having celiac disease. Several of the symptoms you describe (low iron, elevated liver enzymes and Hashimotos) are associated with celiac disease rather than NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity). My feeling is that the reason your blood antibody levels are subclinical... -
@Teresa Dean, we want you to understand that genetic testing for celiac potential is just that. It can only establish the potential for celiac disease. About 40% of the population has one or more celiac genes but only about 1% of the population actually develops celiac disease. So, genetic testing serves the purpose of a rule out.
