  1. Oo, this looks good. Thanks!
  2. I saw them in the store and bought them. What are some good uses, particularly that don't use dairy?
  3. Yeah, that's where my family has gone most years, and I haven't had a problem there. I think I've been there a few times since going gluten free, and I've never had a problem. I find that a lot of places that cater to tourists in Hawaii are good for gluten free food.
  4. I travel quite a bit. I take a lot of food with me, and I search on the internet for good places to dine and shop before I leave. A burger patty without the bun is something that I get all the time when I travel. I know this sounds bad, but if you just went gluten free, would you really notice trace amounts of gluten? I was making a lot of mistakes with...
  5. I was wondering about them too, mainly because they are all fiber. I don't think a lot of us get enough... I'm wondering if these would help in that department. I'm also wondering if they would cause problems/gas/etc.
  6. I also had an easy time with food in South East Asia. The only time I got glutened was at a tourist restaurant. The actual Thai places were awesome! My skin was great and I looked really skinny the whole time. I'm not sure what the mystery ingredients are in the US. I agree about Phnom Penh. The most scared I've ever been traveling was on the back of the...
  7. I try to eat 1700 to 1800 per day to lose weight. I try to eat more like 2200 on days that I do long (8 or more mile) runs.
  8. You may have this already, but I recently bought this gluten-free kosher cook book. A Taste of Tradition
  9. Where did you do your research before your trip? Any websites that explain their gluten free standards? I ask because my (South African) boyfriend has a lot of ingredients and spices that he brought back from his last trip home, and we can't figure out if I can eat it or not. He doesn't know where to look online, and I don't know either.
  10. Hmm, I checked out some things related to that link. Apparently there are two types of yeasts used in beers - top fermenting (ales, Guiness) and bottom fermenting (lagers). I don't know anything about the yeast allergies people on this forum have, since it's never been an issue for me.
  11. Here's a little mystery. Beer was the first thing with gluten to ever make me sick, back in high school, so I know NOTHING about it. My boyfriend is allergic to beer, especially Guinness. He can drink Miller Light, and that's about it, but he gets crazy itchy with most other beer. He doesn't have a gluten issue as far as he knows. What else might be the...
  12. Oh, the other thing I do a lot is make shredded meat for Mexican food. I add a bunch of chicken thighs, and very basic seasonings, and fill it with mostly broth (and some water) to cover. High for 4 hours. This is a great base for enchiladas, tacos, etc.
  13. I just made some yummy split pea soup yesterday. It was too fast to need a crock pot. I probably cooked it for 30 min total. This recipe makes 4 servings. 1 sausage, diced (I used Aidell's, which is labeled gluten-free) 1.5 cups carrots, diced 1 cup onion, diced 1 cup celery, diced 1 quart chicken broth 1 tbsp dried thyme 1 bay leaf pepper to...
  14. Yep, I'm a distance runner. I use Luna Moons (same as Clif Shot Blocks). My favorite flavor is pomegranate. I also use Gu. That has been confirmed as gluten-free pretty recently by another poster on this board. I like the Chocolate Outrage with caffeine. I find a lot of the fruit flavors to be gross. Sharkies are also gluten-free, but they taste really...
  15. This article really interested me. I posted a few things, but I don't think they've been approved yet. Open Original Shared Link Basically, I had these thoughts. First, I felt a bit annoyed. I mean, I agree that food labeling sucks. We all do. But where is the outrage for products that actually make people sick on a regular basis, and not just freak stuff...
  16. Oh, weights. That's interesting. Now that I think about it, that may be an issue for me too. I normally try to do a whole bunch of stuff like crunches, push ups, etc. I have a lot of trouble when I'm run down. I should pay attention to that. The thing I've noticed is that I'm a mess when I don't get enough sleep. THAT is really what determines how I feel...
  17. It probably took me about a year on the diet to really work out hard like I did in college. (Running more than 5 miles at a time, several times a week.) Even in the past two years I've had some other issues, like finding that I needed to avoid other foods, and being set back a few weeks after a glutening. You will get better on the diet eventually, provided...
  18. I just have to share. I just ran my first half marathon. I KICK BUTT! It took me 6 years from wanting to run Bay to Breakers (7.5 miles, my first race) until I could actually do it because of my health problems. That was May 2007 that I actually managed it. I have to say though, today was tougher than I expected. I don't think I fully recovered from...
  19. NOOOOOOOO! I just bought a box an hour ago. I guess I should stock up!
  20. I have the Clan Thompson iPhone app. It was working fine when I got it, but now it crashes. Anyone else having problems? I have one of the newer (G3) iPhones.
  21. I agree, it does take some time. Sometimes it's hard for me to distinguish between overtraining and glutening because both make me feel run-down and both cause me to sleep poorly. I only figured out my diet 3 years ago, but now I've healed enough that I'm running a half marathon in a few weeks. (I ran 12 miles today.) One thing that helped was figuring out...
  22. I knew it! I just did a search to determine if anyone else had been glutened by PF Chang's. I went for lunch yesterday. I woke up with a huge belly this morning. The last time I went to a restaurant before PF Chang's was a few days earlier, with no symptoms. The waiter seemed new, and his English wasn't very good. I should have known better and asked for...
  23. I just saw that episode last week with my roommate! House asked his team, "What could cause flattening of the villi?" Of course the first thing out of my mouth was "CELIAC" before House even had the chance to say the answer. LOL. I couldn't believe how I got through that whole episode until that point without even suspecting it. I also had a good PF Changs...
  24. Oh, and these cookies are really good, if you can eat peanuts and eggs. I've also made them with almond butter. Just make sure it's natural (just ground nuts) because that's the bulk of the cookie. PB cookies 1 c crunchy all natural peanut butter (pour off extra fat) 1 c brown sugar (or less) 1 t vanilla 1 egg 1/2 t salt 1 t baking soda 2 T gluten...
  25. Brittle. I like pumpkin seed brittle. All you really need is sugar. Anything else is negotiable. On that note, Trio bars (at costco) are GFCFSF. So are Jocalat (Lara) Bars. I know those are already made, but Trio bars are similar to multi-seed/nut brittle, and Jocolat are similar to raw "brownies." If you like those, you can try making them easily.
