  1. Well, tell her that shrimp, crabs, lobsters, and crawdads are underwater bugs. Which, really, they are, what with their antennae and exoskeletons. That'll either 1: turn her off seafood completely, and then she won't like them or 2: She won't feel bad she's eating an animal, because it's a bug
  2. I did that, too, at her age! I may have been a touch older, but not much. I don't remember why, but I think it had to do with porkchops. I think I went 6 or 8 months and had a hamburger at a friends house. I was SO SICK! But I kind of added meat back in slowly after that. Vegetarianism was hard for me because I'm hypoglycemic and eating meat helps. That...
  3. I drink a Red Bull as soon as I can after being glutened, it really helps with the brain fog and the depression. It's jam packed with b-vitamins!
  4. That happens to me when I get glutened, although I haven't figured out if it's because I'm so frustrated or if it's a chemical reaction. For me it's gone in a day or two. I hope you're feeling better!!!
  5. DH - Dear Husband DD - Dear Daughter DS - Dear Son I don't see DW ever though... DH on here can also mean dermatitis hepawhateveritscalled
  6. Where is that, exactly? I googled it and a nudist resort came up...which would be fun as well, just harder to concentrate on what you can and cannot eat...
  7. THAT'S AWESOME!!! Thanks for the info!!!
  8. I get that kind of pain, although in my case, it's only my stomach that hurts. It feels like my stomach is trying to eat itself. It's awful and lasts at least a full day. I don't get D, but I'll usually throw up. Bentyl helps sometimes, but usually it takes at least 2 doses of phenergan to get rid of it totally. The doctors are dumbfounded as to why, but...
  9. I just cut them into 1/4-1/8 inch sliced with a knife. Since you boil the sliced potatoes anyway before cooking, it's ok if they're a little uneven. Mandolins take up a lot of space, and I'm not allowed to buy any more gadgets I'm pretty handy with a knife.
  10. OK, so I'm not Rachel, but I'd like that recipe, if you wouldn't mind posting it
  11. Malt comes from barley, so it's definitley a nono, sorry.... Cocoa pebbles are gluten-free though!
  12. Sorry you feel so crappy... I'd go for non-high fiber cooked to death fruits and veggies, and plain meats if you can handle it. Applesauce, canned pears and peaches (in their own juices), nothing very acidic. I miss saltines, too.
  13. That's awesome, Judy! Maybe some good will come out of the crappy experience you had! Pave the way for other celiacs! NO PATIENCE FOR BAD MANAGERS!!! And your manager is giving you a free meal, that's awesome! POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!!
  14. I have the fabled cuisinart breadmaker with the gluten-free setting. I've only made one loaf of gluten-free bread, but I had to scrape down the sides in the middle of it and I had to take it out of the machine 10 minutes early because it was already burned! On the light setting! You just have to watch it. I had it like, a month before dx, so I made gluteny...
  15. So for Easter I decided I wanted scalloped potatoes. I've never made them before, so I didn't have a favorite recipe to adapt. This is comfort food to the max! I modified a recipe (a lot) from allrecipes.com I'm almost positive this would be nearly impossible cf, sorry. Scalloped Potatoes - Not for the faint of cheese! INGREDIENTS: 6 potatoes,...
  16. I get it from time to time and I can't figure out where it comes from. Sometimes it's from too much dairy, but mostly I have no idea.
  17. Are the sour ones gluten-free also? I've always loved those, but they sure do tear your mouth up.
  18. I can only help with numbers 1 and 2, sorry... 1: Absolutely. I'm 22 and was dx'ed about 2 mos ago. I started having stomach problems after getting mono. 2: I'm overweight, but not black. Anyone can get Celiac, it's just more common in northern european populations. My best friend is mixed race and she has Celiac in her family, though I don't know...
  19. The Easter Bunny brought me FOUR packages of Peeps. That's 60 marshmallows covered in crunchy sugar. They should last me at least 3 months. Or they'll feed the cockroaches during a nuclear holocaust. Along with twinkies.
  20. I would definitely reccommend the Sony Wonder Technology Lab at Madison Ave. and 56th st. It's in the Sony building, and best of all, it's FREE !!! It's kind of a museum type thing with technology and you get to play with gadgets and video games. I think a 14 year old girl would like it, my 28 year old brother and I (I was 19 at the time) both loved it. I...
  21. So I have this massive GS campout to go to in a few weeks at a big fancy summer camp that part of the council is renting for the weekend. As a rule, they have a strict policy of outside food, but they're letting me bring some of my own. Especially since I have to keep up with twelve lively 4th grade girls, and having only outhouses, it's imparitive that I...
  22. See, the good thing about us putting one of these things on is that it would be "for the people". It would be more of a Star Wars convention than an Association of Hoity-Toity Doctors convention. Have them come to US for a change! Instead of a bunch of professors and scientists and people out to make money talking about Celiac for a weekend, it'll be...
  23. You don't have peeps in Canada?!?!?!?!??! Open Original Shared Link Marshmallows coated in sugar shaped into bunnies and chicks. Excellent.
  24. Welcome to the board! I'm sorry about all of the losses you have endured, and I'm glad you have a supportive husband. Incedentially, my father was adopted also and he died when I was 13. I'm currently grappling with the "should we have kids" question, also. I'm 22, got married last July, and got diagnosed in February. We're not planning on having kids...
