  1. I would reccommend not eating in the dining halls. At all. The places made me sick all of the time. The "food" in there is crap, anyway. Generally, if you can get a dr note, and a note from your parents, they will let you forgo the dining contract and you can prepare your own meals.
  2. I use Idahoan premium in a massive carton from Sam's. They don't taste like cardboard!
  3. I make chicken parmesan with gluten-free breadcrumbs, parm, italian seasoning, garlic salt, & lemon pepper. Dip the flattened chicken into beaten egg, dip in the breadcrumb mixture, and pan cook. Once done, cover with sauce and mozzarella and stick under broiler to melt the cheese YUM!
  4. Really, it depends on how bad your symptoms are. For me, taking the antispasmodics keeps me from being doubled over in pain all of the time. I haven't really needed them as much, though, since starting the diet.
  5. Dear God, Ursula! You've had it so hard! I'm glad you finally figured out what was wrong with you and I hope you're getting the support you need!
  6. I'm guessing either: 1) the University of Nebraska tests or 2) everyone is so sick of the discussion that they just don't give a damn anymore
  7. Main Entry: fu·tile Pronunciation: 'fyü-t&l, 'fyü-"tIl Function: adjective Etymology: Middle French or Latin; Middle French, from Latin futilis brittle, pointless, probably from fu- (akin to fundere to pour) -- more at FOUND 1 : serving no useful purpose : completely ineffective <efforts to convince him were futile> 2 : occupied with tr...
  8. I second that! I miss my mama's Oh yeah, and if you've figured out a way to make chicken fried steak gluten-free, I'd love to know
  9. If it's kraft and it doesn't say any of the offending grains are in there, they're not.
  10. Disgusting but true. Whether they have to wear gloves or not depends on city or county ordinance (in the states anyway). Mmmm, sounds yummy! And you don't know if they were just emptying wastebaskets, mopping, doing dishes, blowing their nose... You're supposed to wash your hands between tasks, but, yeah, how often does that happen? Eww...
  11. YES! By all means, take the meds. I'm trying to wean myself off the antispasmodics, but I've been on the diet only 3 weeks.
  12. If it's from Kraft, the modified food starch is from corn unless otherwise specified. For example: Modified food starch (wheat) Most jello puddings are safe, just read the label. Kraft has said they always list allergen ingredients in the ingredient statement. And, all kozy shack puddings are gluten free, and say so on the label. Though I did find...
  13. McDonald's stores are set up so that the nugget/chicken/fish fryer is on the opposite side of the store, because you need easy access to the window, not the grill. The people that take the orders generally fill them, so they have handled drinks, bags, burgers, etc before making the fries and adding to to the order. There isn't a lot of loose flour running...
  14. I love me a margarita, there is nothing better than a little salt and that cuervo-y goodness Just plain old tequila shots are excellent, too. I normally drink cheapo cuervo, but I have fancy stuff I save for special occasions... Although there are some days when I'd rather have my tequila intravenously I'm also a fan of Red Bull & vodka...
  15. I have a feeling my insurance would cover a nuritionist if I fought for it, but I'm not officially diagnosed, I'm on a gluten-free challenge to see if that is what's wrong with me. My doctor wasn't really psyched about giving me a reccomendation. She basically said that I could see a nutritionist if I wanted to, but I was much more likely to find all...
  16. DH and I were planning on going to Six Flags Over Texas for our 1 year anniversary, though now with the whole celiac thing (if that's what I have ) will pose a challenge. I'm writing them about it, but does anyone have experience with gluten free at Six Flags, not necessarily over Texas? We live within a 3 hour radius of 3 different six flags parks...
  17. Here's what lundberg says on their gluten-free stuff: Open Original Shared Link Rice All varieties of rice Flour and grinds Drink Rice Original Vanilla Pasta Penne Rotini Spaghetti Rice Chips Fiesta Lime Honey Dijon Pico de Gallo Santa Fe Barbecue Sea Salt Sesame & Seaweed Organic Rice Cakes Brown Rice Brown...
  18. The IgG was the only one I had elevated...is there any other reason anyone knows of that you might have an elevated IgG with everything else normal?
  19. Hang in there, the words are in the vitamins! If the vitamins don't get to the brain, the words don't either I'm only 22 and I can't remember the words for anything. I have trouble with my address, phone number, family names...drives me nuts. Never thought it might be gluten related... I also have the short term memory of a goldfish, which is...
  20. Hah, a couple of tablespoons of the vital wheat gluten we all seem to be afraid of Get some whole wheat pasta and other whole wheat stuff. Eat cream of wheat and add wheat germ to it (it's actually pretty yummy!)
  21. Fry's is one of those wonderful british things we can't get in the states. Like Smarties. Or marmite.
  22. To have false claims, you have to know that your claims are false. To misrepresent something, you have to actually misrepresent it. They volunteered the information, they were not *exposed* Also, there are no FDA regluations regarding gluten-free labelling, so companies go by the Codex standard. As has already been said, they were exonerated by lab...
  23. Well, I never said that I could read Ultra-blonde moment, sorry! (no worries, I'm actually blonde, so it happens)
  24. No tater tots on that list... Thanks for posting, I was wondering about the ez-marinaders just yesterday!
  25. When it rains, it pours, right? For your chest: Go into the bathroom, close the door, sit down somewhere, and turn the water all the way hot and stay in there until the water goes cold. My mom always made us do this when we had colds and it works. (she was a nurse and we have a lot of ancient family remedies to boot) For your nose: Saline. I had...
