  1. I was casually looking over my health insurance website looking to see if there were any nutritionists took my insurance when I saw a statement of my claims... HOLY SPIT, BATMAN! The celiac panel cost $625.75 to run!?!?! My doctor charges $90 for an office visit?!?!? Sorry, I've never had my own insurance before...first real job and...
  2. For the upteenth time.... They legally did nothing wrong. I don't really think it's an ethics case, either. It's not like the report came out in the post one day that some former employee of McD's suppliers ratted them out for lying. The volunteered the information. And they volunteered it poorly, I suspect they'll be getting a new PR firm. They...
  3. HAHA I was just about to say the opposite... My respect for Howard Stern just went up at least 3 notches!
  4. I've had the sweet breath thing before and I went running to the health center the second it opened to do a fasting blood sugar test done, my blood sugar was a little low, if anything, but still normal. The APN I saw there (smart woman, I miss her) said it was likely due to changing my toothpaste and/or using listerine or other antibacterials because...
  5. Only my IgG was high on my blood test, so my dr put me on a gluten-free diet to see if it works. If it works, I have it, if it doesn't I don't. I've said this before, but she's taking the duh approach. She's also kind of apprehensive, though, she's waiting until she sees my records from my GI doc in AR, since he did an endoscopy...She also doesn't want...
  6. LOL! I had pretty much the same reaction to an *unopened* box of vital wheat gluten in my cabinet. I felt like I needed gloves to handle it! I tossed it in with all of the other glutenated stuff going to the food bank. Wouldn't you know I got sick later that day? I think it jumped out and actually did attack me I didn't share my story though...
  7. Actually, the bread is pretty similar to my original recipe, and I can only somewhat tell the difference. There is not a thing wrong with it. It's not as banana-ey as I would like, but duh, add more bananas I also didn't add as much vanilla as I normally would. It's not a brick, it's really springy and moist, I surprised myself. I too am not...
  8. Bless your heart, I hope everything works out for you!
  9. Oh well, their food is mediocre at best, anyway
  10. Well, I asked my geeky chemical engineering DH who specializes in polymers and plastics, (his grad research is something about some kind of polymers and drug delivery and it makes my eyes cross ) Anyway, I asked him about the whole teflon and gluten thing, and I was like, that's not porus enough to hold a gluten protein, right? He said, "oh yeah...
  11. Amen, sister! Butter and jam on a rice cake is quite good...
  12. I have the same kind of really intense pains, though mine are normally higher up, actually in my stomach. My dr called it pyloric spasm, and generally I've had to go to the er for it. I get these pains periodically and have for the last 3 years. They test for h. pylori and poke my stomach and I say ouch and then they throw narcotics at me and tell me to go...
  13. Let me preface this by saying that I am an excellent baker, fabulous. I was looking into pastry programs at culinary schools, I even applied to one. Everyone raves about my cooking, and especially about my baking. I can say this in all honesty, and without modesty, because I did all of this fabulous gourmet cooking with wheat flour. I made my...
  14. Good luck, you don't have a legal leg to stand on. First of all, McDonald's broke no law. They are not required to post a gluten-free menu, they made disclaimers. They decided to comply with the new law voluntarily, as a restaurant they are not subject to it. They also voluntarily tested their products for gluten before and after this fiasco. Gluten...
  15. Cool Whip is made by Kraft, so any gluten would be listed on the label. Here is the Ore-Ida gluten-free list: Open Original Shared Link I didn't see tater tots
  16. Better yet, find a DO (doctor of osteopathy) which is a chiropractor that has additional medical training and can prescribe medications, and he's board certified. They are often more open to holistic options.
  17. I've had that before, but it was just a wierd period, the gyno told me to do a pregnancy test. It was wierd because of a new brand of pills. If it's a yeast infection, it's a fungal overgrowth and they're not going to give you antibiotics because antibiotics cause yeast infections because the good bacteria that normally keeps the fungal stuff under control...
  18. No offense, but I think that eating 2 large fries immediately before boarding a transatlantic flight would make *anyone* sick... Other than that, all I can say is that McDonald's is trying, and they're making more of an effort than many other restaurants (or psuedo-restaurants) in trying to accommodate. No one is perfect, least of all a multinational corporation...
  19. If they live close to you, I would say to invite them over for dinner. A LOT. Cook them beautiful gluten-free meals and rave about how great you're doing now that you're gluten-free. Create a utopia! Otherwise, the other posters are right, not a whole lot you can do without drugging them and dragging them to the dr
  20. You can march right up there today because you DO have celiac. DH is a celiac thing, end of story, game over, the end. Get gluten-free now, because you're one of the lucky ones with a difinitive dx!!!
  21. I can eat tomato sauce and drink orange juice without excruciating pain, or even so much as a little heartburn!!!!!
  22. Gluten-free! Open Original Shared Link I would also drink a lot of 100% cranberry juice and eat some yogurt (even soy yogurt, if you can't have dairy) to keep the good bacteria around
  23. Open Original Shared Link "Dr. Taylor is a Professor of Food Science & Technology in the Institute of Agriculture & Natural Resources at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. A native of the Willamette Valley of Oregon, he graduated from Cascade Union High School in rural Turner, Oregon, received his B.S. and M.S. from Oregon State University...
  24. I hate to add yet more fuel to the fry fire, but, this is what McDonald's says on it's website in the nutritional info... French Fries: Potatoes, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, natural flavor (beef, wheat and dairy sources), dextrose, sodium acid pyrophosphate (to preserve natural color). Cooked in partially hydrogenated vegetable oils (may contain...
  25. In case anyone cares... I called Ovaltine and they verified that the Milk Chocolate flavor is gluten-free. It was on the Delphi list, but it hadn't been verified since 2002 so I thought I'd check.
