  1. How is Megan today, T? Any better?
  2. The only thinkg I can think of re potatoes is that they might be like oats--our immune systems might mistake them for gluten, and attack our bodies just as though we'd eqaten gluten. potatoes, tomatoes, peppers (or any color) are all members of the nightshade family.
  3. Hey, Judy, glad you're doing better! Hope you can elevate your leg outside some and get some nice fresh air! Hang in there!
  4. I saw that segment--thank youso much for posting the link!
  5. Judy, did the doctor recommend IV therapy already? If they did, I would definitly consider it, because if oral antibiotics alone can't wipe this out, they will make the bacteria even stronger--and then IV antibiotics might not work, either. Tell you what, if it comes down to it, PM all of us your hospital info, and we will send you gluten-free care packages...
  6. You can have a religious or medical exemption. You can have a medical exemption for the MMR if you are allergic to eggs, for example, as the MMR is egg-based.
  7. Here's a ridiculously quick ganache-type (heavy, not fluffy) frosting that is also obscenely good as hot fudge: melt one cup semisweet chocolate chips and 1-2 tablespoons butter for 30 seconds in the microwave Stir, microwave another 30 seconds Add 3-4 Tablespoons of heavy cream and stir Microwave another 15-30 seconds and you are done! This...
  8. Awww, Judy, wht a bummer! Question: Did they do any kind of culture of the pus or whatever is in the swelling so that they know EXACTLY what bacteria they are dealing with here? And did they have you on IV antibiotics? When I had cellulitis 17 years ago, I came to the ER at quite an early stage (because I was out of town and it was my only health...
  9. Hugs to you and Megan! Hope you have a good night!
  10. I'm still wondering if this ties in somehow with vaccines, and the preservative thimerosal, which used to be in most vaccines and is still in the flu shot, the chicken pox shot, and probably some others. It is 50% mercury--a heavy metal/b] --and there is speculation that it is involved with leaky gut...I've had interesting reactions to thimerasol in eye...
  11. You're a GRANDMA??!! I thought that was your baby in the photo
  12. Good idea! T, would you mind telling us the surgery date? I'll put Meg's name (PM me her last name?) on the Prayer Board of the Sisters of Divine Provience--they got Michael (and me) through his open-heart surgery, and I think our synagogue will say a blessing for her, too. Also, my physical therapist's dad is a minister--I'm sure he'd add Megan's name...
  13. Planning to make it tomorrow! I started a thread a while back about being allergic to metal, but I can't find it. I gave up on earrings and necklaces years ago--I can only wear my wedding ring (I think it's 24 carat). I never thought of trying jewelry again since going gluten-free. Hmmmm...
  14. For yourself: remember to BREATHE. Like when you were in labor, take some deep breaths and blow away the stress with each exhale. It's almost impossible to get a good let-down when you're stressed. There's probably more milk than you think, it just can't come out. Heck, I can't even pee when I'm upset. For little Megan: Help her to breathe and relax...
  15. Almighty, Master of the Universe, my God and the God of my forefathers: May it be Your Will that You speedily send a complete recovery from Heaven, a healing of the body and a healing of the spirit to: Megan the daughter of Tiffany amongst all of the sick of the Children of Israel. (In my book, if you believe that Jesus was the Messiah...
  16. After having a nasty reaction from Endocet (their version of Percocet), I called my pharmacist to ask if the inactive ingredients contained gluten. He did not have a list of ingredients, but gave me their phone number. I spoke with a very nice pharmacist there named Margaret who was not ALLOWED to tell me if the starch that was listed was from wheat or...
  17. Hi, Mtlady, Would something like an exercise bicycle (non-load-bearing) help you get that exercise? Or do you have access to a swimming pool? Also, a good physical therapist might be able to help you. So could a good chiropractor, but you have to be careful--the good ones are fantastic, but there are quacks out there). As far as good carbs--I've noticed...
  18. Don't forget, muscle weighs more than fat! Your tape measure is more important right now than you scale.
  19. That might explain why I reacted so badly to it last week! Does anybody know for sure what "starch" means? Also, I was given Endocet (generic Percocet), and I can't FIND an ingredients list for it. Does anybody know if that contains gluten?
  20. Brilliant! I've already printed it out! can't wait to try it. I notice it doesn't have xanthum gum--it doesn't need it? Also, I'm running low on brown rice flour--do you think 1/2 brown rice flour and 1/2 white rice flour would work? I've missed making soda bread so much, and it never occurred to me to try rice flour. Thanks so much!
  21. I posted the original recipe, but I never thought of putting the whole thing in the food processor--brilliant! Can't wait to try it that way! Okay, so you take 3 cups cooked rice, mix with 1 cup shredded cheddar and 1 (or 2) eggs, mush it out onto a pizza pan, make a lip around the edge to hold in the toppings and bake for 18-20 minutes (I think it was...
  22. Shelf-stable organic milk? Wow, I gotta go back to Costco! We belong to both--Sam's Club used to be 5 minutes away, but they moved15 minutes further away. Costco is 1/2 hour away, but they had a coupon/gift card offer that made it basically a free membership (well, for one year, anyway), so I signed up. I missed the shelf-stable organic milk, though--gotta...
  23. Thanks so much for the recipe--I've printed it out and will try it!
  24. Hi, Judy, Hope you keep improving. Never underestimate the healing power of a good laugh--rent some funny movies! Most of the movies I like tend to be either old, old-fashioned, ormade for kids, but here are some that I just love: Singin in the Rain Hook (sequel to Peter Pan with Robin Williams as a grown-up Peter Pan who has forgotten his past...
  25. Breathing--great advice! Also--chicken soup! You need chicken soup! Preferably made with a Kosher chicken , lots of onions, carrots, a sweet potato, parsnip, dill, and parsley(hey, my grandma didn't call it, "Jewish Penicillin for nuthin'!"). Can your husband chop some of that up and throw it in the crockpot for you? Failing that, I think Kitchen...
