Agreed - you need to talk to an "employment practices" attorney; just for advice. I hope it all goes well for you.
  2. I see the surgeon on Tues and I have become very symptomatic - gas, bloating, nausea, diarrhea (?), discomfort in upper abdomen, discomfort when I twist from side to side. The sonogram stated that the polyp(s) were small. But they are sure making it known they are here.
  3. Amanda: As you know I like bridal business and I wanted to know if MIL's dress is prom like in today's "slinky-sexy" dresses or like Cinderella dress? I didn't know how to go with this one. I am aware of one thing, however, after searching for a nice dress for my brother's wedding 2 year ago I realized that there are no nice dresses for sisters...
  4. Eggplants are purply-black in color and range in size. They are a vegetable with little fiber, mostly water (not like a melon). They don't offer much in nutrition and they are rather bland by themselves. The best way to cook up eggplant is to peel the skin off then either 1) slice into circles, sprinkle a little salt on each slice and pile...
  5. From my own experience, the "gatekeeper" program in USA HMOs keeps you from getting care in a timely fashion and makes unnecessary paperwork and running around to pick up these stupid slips of paper. Our "Traditional" plans in US never had this stipulation. Additionally, when I mention that before you change plans you should review your listing of...
  6. Whole Foods has a new gluten-free product in their gluten-free lineup: already formed, frozen pie shells.
  7. no wonder when I used to make pie dough at home (wheat type) my mom always said not to play with the dough after it was made as it would make it "tough." I guess there's no chance of that with gluten-free pie dough.
  8. You're right. The Traditional plans are best where you can go to any doctor or facility - medium deductible and sensible co pays My suggestion of "finding doctors" before you need them is based on my own personal experience when I had to change plans. It's my only suggestion for this. Only a suggestion. As to "pigs at tough" comment --- not directed...
  9. The way I know about it is that gluten exists in the grain's natural state - even in unharvested wheat as gluten is a protein molecule. This is the protein molecule that sets off the immune system reaction in those with celiac. The gluten becomes elastic when made into baked goods throught he kneading process - that's why wheat bread(Non gluten-free...
  10. All insurance is based on "statisical probability" - the higher percentage some occurrence will happen (increased liklihood) the more expensive the insurance is. Rates for all insurance are based on this probability. Acturaries review payout records for clips of 10 years past or so and base future rates on what occurred in the past...what claims...
  11. Michelle: You are describing an HMO (limited list of doctors). Most doctors participate in most HMOs. And most plans include alternative practioners now. It depends on the plan you or your employer buys. At the point of sale the insurance rep tells you the various plans and what they cost. If you want to save money, you then are taking the limited...
  12. Grey did you juice carrots too? and if you did were you passing the color of the carrots onto your stool? reason I am asking is because my husband had juicer and this happened to him BEFORE gluten-free and I was wonder if this would happen now that he's gluten-free.... D.
  13. Radgirl: Me too! I cannot have neither fresh nor cooked nor canned fruits/vegetables as they don't digest properly -- even soy and eggs give me stomach/intestine problems. It's so bad that I avoid them completely and have for decades. Mike
  14. Response from my husband Radgirl: I feel empathy and sympathy fo ryou and the emotions you are dealing with...."angry-sad-mad-downright emotional" and I certainly understand your "need to vent." This illness ambushed me when I was a 27 year old *very healthy* individual. I am now 57. Three decades of being chronically ill has been a life-altering...
  15. Great news! For the first time in 3.5 years my husband and I ate out...we went to Outback Steakhouse in Springfield NJ and had a wonderful dinner...even had the gluten-free ice cream dessert. My husband cannot wait to go again. The only thing that stunned him was the price of eating out after almost 4 years. We want to try Bonefish Grill next....
  16. I've always wanted to own a bridal shop...I can look at a lace and I pretty much know what type it is, i.e., chantilly, Schiffly, alecon, venice. I love fabrics and how they drape and I can sew (well, that talent is rarely used anymore). Now in my older years I no longer want a shop : I just want to retire now. I don't have the drive for it like I...
  17. Boy she sounds like a "gem." One GI told my husband he has an obsession with food and needs psychological help....(this was prior to celiac diagnosis, and we're still struggling with IBS issues and noticing that certain foods bothered him - foods like fruits/vegetables/spices -not gluten but it certainly foreshadowed an intolerance that the GI should...
  18. I am looking to find out if one of the foods to avoid for children with ADD is wheat or gluten? I thought I heard that avoiding wheat and/or gluten helps ADD? Did I hear correctly?
  19. Borderline Positive and you were eating gluten....I think you might have to consider yourself as having celiac or at worst wheat intolerant. I think you answered your own question...now the problem is whether to purse a second opinion/test.....in order to make a re-test accurate you have to eat the gluten (as Carla stated) in order to get your anti-body...
  20. Right before I eat the waffles/pancakes I mix real maple syrup with a little of the Aunt Jemima - this keeps the artificial ingredients down to a minium and gives a little of the real maple to the mix. I mix up just enough for that one time (I guess if you have a family you can keep it mixed in refrigerator but it'll only keep just as long as real maple...
  21. I have heard of people bringing their own gluten-free pasta to italian restaurants and I'll reiterate that the pot to boil it in has to be clean and fresh water used and strained in a clean strainer (so no gluten gets picked up) I don't know about the tomato sauce, but if you bring your own butter (BYOB) you can at least have gluten-free macaroni with...
  22. Radgirl This response is from my husband who has celiac. I read your first post to him and he is replying (I do it as he hates computers)... "I feel like an alien in that I can't eat what others eat. Not only is gluten off limits but I can't eat fruits and vegetables and spices/pepper nor eggs nor nuts nor soy. It's frustrating wanting to eat...
  23. My name is Deb and I am overweight (he he) I was always overweight by anywhere from 15-60 lbs. - catch me at any moment and I am somewhere in that range. This being said I am in great health! I have blood pressure of 120/70 or less at times - cholesterol under 200, esp. the good cholesterol.. Doctors marvel over my numbers because I am atypical. ...
  24. This is not so..to a point the expense would get blanketed over all the policy holders (just like socialism) but first SHE'D have a rate increase on her renewal premium. Or her employer would get socked with a higher premium for the experience of his "group." In USA the health cost DOES get back to the patient through higher health insurance rates, unfortunately...
  25. Can't resist! It depends on what you're putting in your bread.....I hope they don't stop you at the border.
