  1. In 1994 my husband's GI was so dismissive it was downright medical negligence. However, I have been noticing that some GI's as of late are getting with the "program" on celiac disease more than before and that's a good sign.
  2. Betsy, I agree ..funny you say this because I had gallbladder discomfort on upper right side of abdomen (where this organ is) AND pain on left side because the gallbladder bile was irritating my newly discovered IBS. It wasn't until the gallbladder was removed and the inflammation died down that the gas and discomfort on left side went away. Deb
  3. Thank you all! I appreciate your kind thoughts. I had an ordinary day on my birthday...went to work, worked thru lunch, came home, had dinner, read and went to bed. Actually conked out early....
  4. How are you feeling now? You must have been really sick as now a days they don't put you in hospital and keep you there unless you're near death. As to pots and pans, mostly any pot or pan that has a smooth surface that steel wool can clean, can be cleaned thoroughly enough to use for gluten-free cooking. The problemic surfaces are: cast iron, especially...
  5. First thing I thought of was diverticulitis too, then maybe ovarian. I had this on and off for the past 4 years and it was enlarged ovarian cysts would come and go. Well if you already got checked out and it wasn't either of these too, make sure you go for annual check ups especially if you still get the pain. Or, is there something new in your diet...
  6. About 25 years ago I purchased a fresh turkey from a turkey farm and for about an 18 lb. bird it ran me about $25. Now I can't tell you how it tasted and if it was worth the money because my hard-headed mother in law overcooked
  7. Here's another basting issue that needs to be addressed: even if the cook uses gluten-free stuffing, I hope she/he isn't using the old rubber/plastic baster that she/he used when they made birds with gluteny bread stuffing. After having to go gluten-free, I found that it was silly to clean out my 10+ years old baster and buy a new one that I know...
  8. great receipe...however what was the answer to whether or not the cream cheese based uncooked crust can be frozen successfully and retain its taste and texture?
  9. Sounds like you all need a break from each other this Thanksgiving...not due to arguing, but there's a lot strong issues going on that could result in arguing, bitterness, etc. I can see the pregnant woman's viewpoint of not wanting to have to deliver in the hospital I was not intending to use. It would upset my level of comfort too. Also, it has...
  10. Hope it gets better for you. Keep studying your medical terms as that career will be a good chance for you to make a steady income. One thing to beware of..I have a friend in FL who has been doing this work for 20 years now and she says that doctors are using transcriptionists from overseas (outsourcing) as they can have the transcript done by the next...
  11. If all else fails try Freeda mail order Open Original Shared Link
  12. Wow! That's great....nice to hear good news
  13. I got an answer from Olay which suggested that if gluten were to be in one of their products (and it's not stated on the label in the ingredients) then it could be in the fragrance. (I had them on the phone last week about their Quencher body lotion). The rep said to use a fragrance free product as gluten could be in trace amounts in the fragrance and...
  14. These posts made me remember that when my husband first got sick his closest friends abandoned him. The story about the guy who wants confirmation of the CC of the Tupperware is disturbing to me. What's that expression? If you're really a friend you don't need an explanation, or something like that. This is not an original thought...someone...
  15. Open Original Shared Link update as of 9/07 and it's now about 6 weeks after study began --- so this part is probably over by now and they are analyzing the data. Can't wait until their next press release.
  16. From what I know and read about these new discovery, Zonulin, which is still in Human Clinicial Trials, is that it's going to work on the molecular level; it won't work like lactose pills. It's supposed to stop a "t" cell response (or something like that). https://www.celiac.com/articles/64/1/Protei...ease/Page1.html Open Original Shared Link
  17. Sounds like you need a quiet night out.....without the inquisition and preparing for a defense. And I too would hold friends and family to a higher standard: because I can talk to them one on one -- that's not possible in a restaurant situation as hard as you try. In a restaurant there are still degrees of separation. We've been involved...
  18. I don't know the answer but here's their phone number 800-257-8650 www.beano.net One word of caution, if you have allergy to mold and pennicillin you cannot use Beano.
  19. have a wonderful Happy Birthday!!! Debbie
  20. Open Original Shared Link sells gluten free bread cubes for use as stuffing
  21. My husband (celiac) once ate a cake with red food coloring in the icing and the next movement he had was a dark pink; but it was pink throughout the whole stool; blended in evenly. The purple would give you a green tinge too as green coloring is used to drab down a red. At least when you color your hair with an 'ash' product. But if you are seeing...
  22. Happy Belated Birthday to you Lisa. Wishing you many more happy and healthy ones. Deb
  23. Just checking 7 more weeks or so to the first re-union day.
  24. The directions tell you to make the whole box..and I think it makes 4 pie shells or two tops and bottoms for pies. too much for me....and there's no instructions on how to only make half...well I use only half and freeze the left over dough. If you decide to use only half of it, don't be generous with the water as that's what will get you into trouble...
