  1. To me, this is the best way to get them to see your point I'd like to futher this by saying that if you are going to bring your own food on the side do so quietly and order something off the menu as a "cover." They can't accuse you of "freeloading" if you pay for something. From what I am reading, I am getting...
  2. Not the same thing....in law drug companies and food manufacturers/restaurants have "absolute" liability. It's not the same level of liability as a pool hall or bowing alley or a waterpark. With those places the injured party has to prove to the court that negligence occurred; with things consumed the drug company or restaurant or food manufacturer has...
  3. This also brings up another issue that also is a problem for a restaurant: without a doctor's note, how would a restaurant know the difference between a real celiac and someone who is just too cheap to order off the menu? I have worked with people who have no health diet issues and brought their lunch to a restaurant while we ordered off the menu. So...
  4. Hi, I am licensed insurance agent so I have some background in this stuff. Restaurants who bar outside food are mostly likely doing this because it's a liability issue - not necessarily because they don't want to be accomodating. The risk is in them getting sued by you for foreign objects in the food or food poisioning: How would they know it was...
  5. As part of what I see as our national health problem is hospitals having to close their doors as they are in the "red" due to having to treat non-citizens who do not even have Medicaid as they are illegals. In my area two hospitals have closed down in the past few years. We have a high concentration of illegals in my area and unfortunately, the hospitals...

  7. Neesee Please if you have a moment, let me know about your "end-stage", I am very interested in this so as to know more about this condition. You may email me thru forum email. Debbie Note to all.....I have read that ingesting rat poison in small amounts doesn't necessarily kill you all at once....so hence the comparison of gluten to rat poison...

    ARCHIVED Shampoo

This is what I learned from L'oreal unscented: there still could be a fragrance in it which would have trace gluten fragrance free: has no fragrance at all Choice to make if you want no trace of gluten: fragrance free Fragrance free shampoo & conditioner are difficult to find. I found over internet drug store and it's made by Person ...
  9. It's unfortunate that the dietitian used the word "trendy." Perhaps she meant it in the vein of "studies show that incidence of celiac disease are trending up." ? I can't imagine a R.D. even suggesting that gluten free is a optional trend when you have gluten intolerance (as the article goes onto mention this as a medical condition). All in all...
  10. Atkins also referrenced neurological studies which stated that brain cell function improved on a low carb diet. So Atkins yes, did state that a diet of a certain about of carbs w/fats made one overweight, but he did mention a study of the effects of low carb diet on brain cells, as that was one of the criticisms the 'low fat diet' proponents charged...
  11. I am about to purchase one of those electric "guns" that presses out cookie dough into shapes and wanted to know (as I never made gluten-free cookies before) does gluten-free cookie dough press out the same way as glutencookie dough does?
  12. South Jersey has a great celiac support group...let me look for their info and post it for you all. I am in north central jersey and there isn't one in Union County/Essex County area.
  13. I am not certain about gluten intolerance being a spectrum disease. I have read Dr. Atkins work and he mentioned his review of carb studies wherein brain function improved on a low carb diet. I don't think the study based itself on whether the eliminated carbs were wheat/oat/rye/barley or other carbs such as corn, potato, sugar....it would be interesting...
  14. General Precaution on Mineral based make ups.... For those who have metal allergies (nickel, silver, gold, etc.) mineral products could irritate the skin and make you develop additional metal allergies...so proceed using the product with caution.

  16. Has this Navy gastro had any cases of Celiac in his practice before? Tell him that celiac.com exists and/or csaceliacs.org (national celiac organization). Photo is of my husband in Navy during Vietnam. At time, he was not active Celiac. He came down with it a few years after he did his "hitch." We have had serious problems with military gastro...
  17. Karen, I would be interested I am in Union county...what part of Union County are you in? It's such a large county..... Deb
  18. Perhaps he is 'temporarily' lactose intolerant?

    ARCHIVED Disabilty?

Don't really know how that works...I knew a girl who did that (Washington State) & she moved in with her grandmother, got a job & paid a really low rent to her grandmother (who probably gave it back to her in cash). Her parents were alcoholics & she needed to be emancipated & move out. However, Rhode Island does not have a disability...
  20. also, the old standard "baby oil" will work I love Avon's Wash-Off Waterproof Mascara (don't know if it's gluten-free though?) Avon's WO Waterproof will only come off with regular soap; water alone will not remove it.

    ARCHIVED Disabilty?

I don't think Rhode Island is known for social programs......Last I checked I don't think they have a govt.-based Disability program. It think the state's motto is "Live Free or Die." I think the way around this is: 1) become independent legally from your parents (there's a legal word for when a minor claims adult status, but I can't remember...
  22. during endoscopy GI found duodenal ulcer in husband....it was halfway healed ...
  23. Also review your Vitamin B intake (you may need supplements). My husband has Restless Leg and it can cause some daytime twitching too. But again, he has neurological issues from the misdiagosed celiac.
  24. I have heard stories like this before and it really makes me scared to know it is true....
  25. to Glutenfreefamily: Wow! I didn't know you were that powerful. Could you please wish for me to win the Mega lottery? Tell hubby he more than likely had wheat issues that were bound to catch up with him sooner or later.
