Meredith: My husband went thru 3 gastros and no less than 5 Internists/GP's before gastro #4 diagnosed the disease. This took 27 years of adult-onset illness. One GASTRO told him he needed psychological help because the illness was all in his mind. This was in 1994. The years were grueling emotionally and the illness has racked and destroyed his...

a plastic lunch cooler (Like Playmate) is a must along with picnic ice (those plastic things you keep in freezer). One sugestion is make baked potato at home and keep in saran wrap and re-heat in their microwave in the plastic wrap. BYOB (butter that is). If you can eat tuna - buy it in the single serve foil pouch.

Paula: Did the gynocologist peform a sonogram of her ovaries? Reason being is that those years while you first start "menopausing" your body can ovulate from time to time and that's how you get the cysts. If they did sonogram (transvaginal type) then she had a thorough check out.

Nicole: The online menu states that they also have baked potatoes....I do not like "garlic mashed potatoes" and my husband cannot eat garlic (& many spices) ....did they not have baked potato on menu when you went there? How long ago was that visit there? Well again, Bonefish has "garlic mashed potatoes" - no baked potatoes on their...

I have had thyroid removal and have only side side remaining and take Levoxyl every day. But I also have boob/ovary pain due to ovarian cysts that began a few years ago. I am very close to starting menopause and my ob/gyn said it was common in women of this age range to get ovarian cysts (with its accompanying boob pain). Cysts are not necessarily...

If he was ever in military a veteran's hospital might be able to help him. Another suggestion it to call the Social Worker of a local hospital near him and see what programs are out there for the uninsured in NY State. Call State of NY Dept. of Health (might also be Health & Human Services?) and ask them same question.... These are only suggestions...

ARCHIVED So Confused!
debmidge replied to lob6796's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is where consuming gluten-free labeled foods with trace amounts of gluten in them is a personal decison. Now that we know the facts about Rice Dream we have to make the choice for ourselves...obviously other foods labeled as gluten-free may contain trace amounts of gluten. It's a hard decision to make. I guess there's no way around this - only... -
I got rid of an older Rowenta (cheaper model) that I was unhappy with because it dripped water while I ironed and got a Shark ..my opinion of the Shark is that it's too heavy, it doesn't get hot at the lower levels & you have to iron on "high" on all fabrics; you have to constantly run the iron over the fabric many times before the wrinkles are out...

ARCHIVED Why Is Gluten Free So Hard For People To Accept?
debmidge replied to Ryniev's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Just a suggestion, but Mary Tyler Moore has always had diabetes (type I?) for years...and tell them "guess what!" she wa always slim and a dancer (I believe I heard that she was a professional dancer before she did Dick Van Dyke show). So there, it's not diet, weight, exercise, sugar etc. -

My husband wanted to break our engagement when he first got ill...he was confused, unhappy, depressed, and didn't want to screw up my future. We talked long and it, cried and realized we'd be unhappy apart from each other. We've been married for 28 years this year. I do eat gluten at home and in his presence...he doesn't feel it's a problem and... -
Glad it worked out for you. Please share the name of the restaurant or place. I had excellent experience with The Westwood here in Garwood NJ. They did two parties for me and provided gluten-free food to my husband. If they didn't know about gluten-free before they met me, they know about gluten-free now.

ARCHIVED Cant Bring My Food / Was This Almost Discrimination?
debmidge replied to abigail's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
The difference between the Entertainment Park and the restaurant is that the purpose of the Park is to provide rides, games, entertainment and more often than not the food concessions are operated by independent contractors (not people who own the Park). The Entertainment Park wants as many bodies as possible in their park & they really don't care if... -

What I am about to say is not because I am not wanting anyone to not have a good time, but I am just sharing what I know about the subject. No affront is intended and it's not intended to hurt anyone's sensitivities....it's being offered in charity and with the desire to share what I know about the topic. I'm not a lawyer, just an insurance person and...
