ARCHIVED Modified Food Starch - Correction Of Misconception
debmidge replied to RKB-MD's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My intention is not to throw a new "fear bomb" but to put this out there as something to think about. Due to the ethanol as an alternative fuel issue, corn prices are climbing here in USA. Corn will become more expensive than wheat. I check this out in financial section of newspapers on Sundays - look at the business page, stock market section then... -
ARCHIVED Negative Fecal Fat But Underweight
debmidge replied to ADevoto's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For all the 27 years my husband went mis-diagnosed his fecal fat count was in normal range however, his weight plummeted from about 180 to 127 over the course of 2.5 years from first symptoms. Those specific blood tests were not invented or his doctors did not utilize them for the first 15 years or so of his illness. It got to the point where even new... -

ARCHIVED Egg, Soy, Casein, Corn And Gluten Allergies?
debmidge replied to confusedks's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
A couple of years ago my husband got a sensitivity test from Yorke and it stated that he was intolerant to gluten, wheat, corn, yeast, cow milk, egg yolk, soy bean, almond, cashew, lentils, hazelnut and chili pepper. Foods to rotate: Brazil nut and Garlic. Now I have to admit he eats corn, yeast, cow milk, egg yolk as they are so hard to eliminate... -
ARCHIVED You Need To Vent About Gas Prices!
debmidge replied to pedro's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Just want to throw this is...it was a rule from my Dad who was a mechanic. Don't let your gas tank get to Empty as the sediment from tank, especially in older vehicle, will get stirred up and could clog your gas filter, etc. I never had a clog, but I have had a gas tank that rusted and had a hole in it . It leaked only when the car was off; while... -
ARCHIVED Modified Food Starch - Correction Of Misconception

I was waiting for RKB's source info before I commented (you should have counted me as a neutral) you asked him to qualify what he said and then didn't allow time for him to return with it..it was poof! Day later "where's the info?" ...anyway, it's Open Original Shared Link This appears to be a "watchdog" type of group. I didn't read it fully as... -

You might not want to hear this but ...I think it could be because you are prolonging this point unnecessarily..... -
As for me, I'll still make allowances for people who are not as skilled in this area. It's just me, as I think, "there for the grace of God go I." I am sure, however, since the advent of the computer, there's more information out there. Fiddle-Faddle: what was your Mother researching?

Nikki That was what was happening to my husband too. (but he refused hospitalization)...anyway, all blood tests were coming up that he was healthy as a horse! No anemia, good numbers on everything! This was BEFORE the specific anti-gen tests for gluten intolerance. I had no idea that these were invented as I was never looking in that direction. ...

Your friend sounds immature....especially if they know that your food choices are due to a health condition and not on a whim. If they know the real problem, then they are being mean and maybe you need better friends. It's then never too early to learn that you have to get away from toxc people. Toxic people are people who act like a friend but have...

ARCHIVED Modified Food Starch - Correction Of Misconception

You hit a nerve on this one: the importation of even minor ingredients can be a nightmare to regulate. The container could indicate tapocia starch but what if it was processed in a wheat-laden facility in some 3rd world nation? Now I know this isn't quite the FDA topic we started on but the policing of companies would then multiply and who's to know... -
Agreed...do the research - however, I won't hold anyone who is not holding a diploma of advanced medical education responsible -- this will only make them a victim twice. Additionally, there's a point where you have exhausted your resources (not all of us live near or have access to a medical library) ....for us we were young and relied on the "specialist...

ARCHIVED Things To Mull Over.....

The key to failure is trying to please everybody. Joy is not in what we own....it is in what we are. -
Scott I don't know how to PM you - I don't want to take a chance PM-ing the wrong Scott on the board. But please PM or email me as I want to discuss something with you about the Board. Thanks DebM.

ARCHIVED Modified Food Starch - Correction Of Misconception

I happen to agree with this statement and I will definitely speak to people I know who are in pharamaceutical industry and who work for the FDA in the capacity of inspector and I will make an attempt to try to find out more information. Remember, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure and that should be our mantra as regards this subject. -

I'd like to take this moment to point out that the price of corn is skyrocketing and that although many companies would not want to cross the MFS line using wheat (which will be less expensive than corn) instead of corn, there's always the possibility that they could change to wheat suddenly without updating their label and without updating the info that... -
ARCHIVED Things To Mull Over.....
debmidge replied to debmidge's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
You can tell I have nothing to do this weekend: Life is like a coin...you can spend it any way you wish, but you can spend it only once. The hardest thing to learn in life is which bridge to cross and which to burn. Some people find that the most difficult instrument to learn to play is second fiddle. -
I get this in insurance business too. There are times when just everybody is calling about the smallest things. Not so much on my end, but the homeowners dept. goes crazy....especially when weather is bad it appears that people are home and bored and have taken to either reading their insurance policies or are grousing about the increase in the premium...

ARCHIVED Officially Casien Intolerant
debmidge replied to SunnyDyRain's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I saw product at whole foods which was wood chip (for grills) and there was no ingredient statement...would anyone know of a brand name of natural product? This would certainly help and save time. I'd rather not purchase the product and then find out it's no good. -
For my husband Things that cleared up due to gluten-free diet 1) no more gas, diarrhea, bloating, headaches, belly aches, noisy stomach, 2) less depression 3) clearer skin (DH) Stayed the same: 1) developed neuropathy despite Vit B shots and supplements 2) devleoped a hemorrid type problem 3) no gain of weight (desperately needed...

I see this too in foodstores; only animals to be in there are "working animals" like seeing eye dogs, etc. This is usually a Health Code violation and the store manager should say something to that person. Yesterday I saw woman in Wal Mart with a mini chiaua in her pocketbook hanging from her shoulder. See this a lot too; seems like... -
Found this to be pretty funny to think about. Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference. Wouldn't it be nice if whenever we messed up our life we could simply press 'Ctrl Alt Delete' and start all over? AMEN, AMEN !!

Lynne Would these journals have been written in a format that the lay person would have had difficulty following or understanding? Would they have been found in libraries of medical universities or colleges with a strong science cirriculum?
