  1. This will be my husband's first restaurant experience in over 3 years gluten-free and I want it to be best it can be. We will be going there on 7/14 our anniversary and I'd like to hear from y'all who have gone there to let me know their experience and what to watch out for, should I call them ahead of time? what's good there/what's not? I am pulling...
  2. Criso now makes a "0 trans fat" all vegetable shortening in a green labeled can Ingredients: soybean oil, sunflower oil, fully hydrogenated palm oil, mono-and diglycerides, TBHQ and citric acid (anti oxidants) made by The J.M. Smucker Company Calories 110 per tablespoon total fat 12g saturated fat 3 g trans fat 0g polyunsaturated fat 6g...
  3. Carla, This is SO true! My husband gets this treatment from his only sibling (sister) and he's very hurt by it. I understand it because I've seen him everyday, especially before diagnosis, weak, gray complexion, digestion troubles. His sister feels that "well I get upset stomach sometimes too!" She equates her issues with his. He's one step from...
  4. rosacea also comes to mind - pink/redness on nose and face that comes and goes... According to book "Prescription for Nutritional Healing" this condition is seen alongside vitamin deficiences, stress, infection. Aggravators are: spicy foods, sunlight, cosmetics, alcohol, hot liquids, extremes of temperature & skin care products containing alcohol...
  5. Heard this story on news other day (east coast) and my questions were: 1) where was "triage" unit? Those medics which rate the patient as to how severe the problem is and put patient ahead of the less urgent cases 2) why didn't 911 operators at least make a phone call into the ER to tell them that there's been 2 urgent calls for help from someone...
  6. If anyone can tell me what does this mean on blood test? Test Name - CBC w/Diff MCHC What does this mean? I was out of range on this one.... Also, what does it mean when your alkaline phosphatase is low? (I used to know this stuff....) Is there a medical website which can give me more info?
  7. Just want to interject this as it seems on topic. Be very carefull about scrambled eggs at buffets or anywhere else for that matter. I've been served scrambled eggs which were in large aluminum pan and under eggs in this pan were flattened tortillas (wheat) to absorb run off fluid from eggs.
  8. for those who use magnesium, what type mag oxide, chelated mag, mag aspartate, mag glyinate... which formula and how many mgs? anyone take magnesium citrate? I think this would be the most irritating to bowel, right?
  9. I feel very bad hearing this news. I lost my husband's NAVY ring prior to our engagement. I was in ladies room and I don't recall if I took it off and placed it on counter or if I had it off and was drying my hands with papertowel and tossed it out with the paper towel; but I lost it and cried my eyes out ever since...if I think about it long enough...
  10. My husband's sister is ignoring her celiac symptoms...refuses to deal with it...in denial, etc. She's also under stress of taking care of their elderly mother (a nursing home would not do a better job, but it would also eliminate the stress of having to be home 24/7. but she does not work & has not in 30 years since she was 25 and has no children.....
  11. that's an excellent suggestion for this situation - and no one at ceremony would ever know and it would keep the ceremony smooth flowing as no "changing" of anything. Good work!
  12. My husband had red rash on face near ears and on chest and scalp before going gluten-free. His face coloring was gray and pasty before gluten-free. Now coloring is better and rash is a memory & gone.
  13. Ok another baking rule: when making batter breads or muffins - corn breads, blueberry muffins, corn muffins, banana bread - and you're using baking powder unless the mix box tells you differently, you don't have to use a mixer and don't overmix your batter. I have heard that some people separate the yolk from the white of the egg (do carefully as to not...
  14. being new to magnesium I ran across these 3 types: which is best for constipation without acting like a irritating laxative? magnesium aspartate chelated magnesium magnesium glycinate magnesium citrate or are there more? I am learning more about this as I go along
  15. This is why we always BYOB (the little we eat at relatives and the one wedding we went to) !!
  16. My husband throughout the years needed to re-gain his weight and despite all the calories he ate, he did not re-gain all he lost, maybe about 15 lbs. he gained back but it was fat not muscle. In the beginning of his illness, I can only describe it as "active malabsorption" and it then became a "quite malabsorpton." Now that he's been gluten free since...
  17. My local Whole Foods no longer sells xanthan gum and never sold guar gum. This WF has to be the smallest WF in the chain. They are moving to a larger site in 2008. Meanwhile, I have to buy a lot of my supplies over internet as health food stores in area aren't stocked in these gums either (I would be surprised if they sell them at all). I get much...
  18. Please consider calling the Social Worker or Patient Advocate who works at the hospital. This won't get the staff in trouble, but you might have a great ally in achieving what you need.
  19. Sunny Do want sweet muffins ? Some cornbreads are made with only a little sugar and they aren't as sweet as a muffin would be. Overall, the receipe is the same for both, just that you're pouring the batter into muffin tins instead of a square pan. However, I thought that Bob's Red mill corn bread mix had wheat in it? Double check that first...
  20. Thank you Burdee...your link was very helpful. Deb
  21. guar gum can be purchased at celiac.com store and www.kinnikinnick.com
  22. Are these interchangeable? Does one have benefits over another? Do they have the same properties? are cakes made with one and not another? or both? I am ready to stop buying Xanthan gum and only buy guar gum and will do it if they are interchangeable, etc. Thanks for info Deb
  23. For those who use magnesium for constipation, what type of magnesium is it? Guy at vitamin store asked me -& said it should be two words "Magnesium _________".. like Magnesium citrate.... Anyone have any info on this? Thanks Deb
  24. Dear Gentleheart: thanks, your answer about the product helped me understand it. That's what I was confused about.
