  1. I've looked but haven't seen any Yoplait with "gluten free" on it in Canada - has anyone ???
  2. What gives ? The bag says gluten free but my intestinal tract says otherwise ! A few months ago I tried the (gluten free) BBQ flavor and next thing I knew I had headaches & gut cramps...ugh, just let me lie down & leave me alone. So, I'm in Costco the other day and I see the baked plain Kettle chips and the bag says gluten free...so I...
  3. I use the Food For Life brand - I love them for pizza. I used to use the Kinnikinnick brand but they are expensive AND they are very high calorie. I think one FforL brand has around 130 calories each....versus 500. What's more, they taste really good !
  4. Kraft salad dressings are safe - as long as there are no gluten ingredients in the ingredient list. BBQing chicken basted in any flavor you like is easy and really good ! We've been using the sun dried tomato one. You can also bake chicken pieces in a pan in them as well. Yum !
  5. Usually the extreme fatigue is the first sign of glutening for me too. Within 15-30 minutes of eating something I shouldn't have I pretty much just want to curl up in a ball and sleep - and want everyone to leave me alone. I get very miserable !! Often a headache comes in as well, and then the stomach cramps. There have been times when I don't realize I glutened...
  6. I have had succes with Great Value brand bacon (Walmart) and Costco sells Canadian back bacon that is gluten-free (Freybe) - that's leaner & more like ham.
  7. I hear you - yes it sucks but yeah, it's healthier.... I go fo the sno cones...my daughter loves them too. Things are expensive anyway - I truly pack food (& water) wherever I go anyway. It helps avoid temptation.
  8. As I recover from a glutening I am very sensitive to dairy - so I'm wondering what soy milk in Canada is safe ??? Safeway has So Good and Silk - not sure what other stores have. I had heard there was barley used in processing some milks ??? Anyway, anyone know which brands/flavours are safe ?? I really don't want to drink the wrong one as I recover ! TIA...
  9. I was in New York last week and, being from Canada, was all excited to go to Trader Joe's and find some gluten-free food. Well, there really wasn't much. I bought some gluten free granola for breakfast and some gluten-free english muffins that molded fast. Most of their products have that old disclaimer on it - processed in a facility that processes wheat...
  10. I was in New York last week - we dined out at Sambucas (mentioned previously). It's right off of Central Park so if you're "doing the park" it's handy. My only issue is I ate too darn much ! It's a family style restaurant - the pasta dishes are huge, even the smaller sizes. My DH & I wished we had shared one of those (yeah, the smaller one). The...
  11. sure...it's northernelfATyahoo.ca
  12. In about a week my family is going to New York. I gotta admit I'm a little nervous about eating...it's when I travel that I tend to have problems ! Anyway, we are staying on the Brooklyn side of the Brooklyn Bridge and there is a Trader Joe's a few blocks from our hotel - and we will have a small fridge in our room. We are attending a conference &...
  13. I'm a big filtness buff and I instruct. I've had 3 kids and had weight to lose after each one. What I did was hit the weights hard to build a bit of muscle mass and I did cardio as well. I didn't count calories but I ate healthily and grazed. I've maintained that weight loss because I am consistently active and eat well. Honestly, there are so many "schools...
  14. Curious if anyone else has had a reaction to these. The salt & vinegar flavor is delicious - nice vinegar flavor ! The bag says gluten free but my intestinal tract says otherwise. I didn't have a very big reaction but just a mild headache and loose stools, stomach cramps, and gas ! Anyway, I also don't tolerate a lot of fat well so I was wondering if...
  15. Ingredients POLYDEXTROSE, CITRIC ACID, MALIC ACID, NATURAL LEMON FLAVOR WITH OTHER NATURAL FLAVORS, CONTAINS TWO PERCENT OR LESS OF POTASSIUM CITRATE, SOY LECITHIN, SUCRALOSE, TRICALCIUM PHOSPHATE, ETHOXYLATED MONO- AND DIGLYCERIDES, ACESULFAME POTASSIUM, NIACINAMIDE, RED #40, PYRIDOXINE HYDROCHLORIDE (VITAMIN B6), WHEY PROTEIN ISOLATE, VITAMIN B12.
  16. These days I am so careful that I rarely get glutened. However, once in awhile - probably every few months or so - I get hit. I do live in a gluten household, although I have specific counters and cookware for myself. Sometimes I don't realize I've been hit until a couple of days afterwards. I'm just getting over a glutening right now. My symptoms were extreme...
  17. You might want to get tested before you go & cut out the gluten...once you do it is really hard to get an accurate test. Your symptoms sound a lot like my original symptoms. I got headaches tylenol couldn't touch, I felt really stressed, bloated, and had a lot of reflux and stomach cramps. The problem with pinning it all down is when your stomach is...
  18. Stocking up your pantry with gluten-free flours & supplies will be expensive at first - keep receipts and use them for your income tax next year. I'm in BC and I have a decent health food store where I live that has most of what I need. In my collection are... tapioca flour white & brown rice flour corn starch potato starch xanthum gum corn...
  19. Somewhere along the line every celiac has to put their foot down & take control. I think the reason many of us have a problem doing this is because our road to discovering we have celiacs is 'murky'. Most of us have been dealing with weird symptoms for years, some of us don't even get a definitive diagnosis...that's the problem with a disease that you...
  20. I was in the UK last July (I live in Canada). I was so excited to see the "free from" areas of the supermarket, the green label gluten-free beer...but I did get mildly sick a few times. The first time it took me awhile to figure it out - a bed & breakfast poached my eggs in water with malt vinegar...gosh, most condiments over there have malt vinegar in...
  21. First of all, pretty much anyone on tv has a crew of make up artists, hair stylists, and wardrobe consultants. Seriously though, a diligent celiac should look healthy - I think the celiac diet is a pretty healthy one. Think of all the processed stuff one can't eat - it's easier to stick with fruits, vegetables, unprocessed meats - than to risk glutening...
  22. Thanks for the replies - boy this sure is tough sometimes. You'd think when something is blatantly labelled "gluten free" that it would actually not have gluten in it (hence the gluten-free status). I'm finding these days that I am avoiding processed foods more & more, making my own stuff more & more. The only chips I have had consistent success...
  23. Kinnikinnick has decent pizza shells, even if they are making them smaller and square these days. The other day I didn't have any shells so I used a gluten free tortilla to make pizza - and it was yummy ! I will certainly do that again. I used the Food for Life brand.
  24. If youre on a gluten free diet, how do you manage to get all the food thats gluten free? Many natural foods - veggies, fruits, meats, rice, potatoes, salads - are gluten free. Do you have a list of gluten free foods that you can get at a normal store? I have my standards - canned tuna or salmon in water, gluten-free rice crackers, eggs, cheese, and...
