  1. No problems here - I buy a brand from Costco that has gluten free written right on it. I eat it on a regular basis - healthy stuff.
  2. These pizza shells are very tasty...my only issue with them is that one shell is 500 calories (the info on the package is for 1/2 of one). That's pretty high - considering you're going to top it with sauce, toppings, and cheese. I can eat at least one on my own... I've been making "pizza" with Enjoy Life tortillas...for me it's all about the toppings anyway...
  3. Tough one - I either wouldn't go or I would pack my own food & go...and, yes, eat my own food at the restaurant and have a glass of wine or something (I have done this lots before). I thought I could do this last Christmas - my brother took DH, myself, and my kids out to a pizza place. It offered nothing but pizza. I was choked that he would do that...
  4. I'm going on a school trip at the end of May across the country with my 14 year old daughter as a chaperone. We are going for 12 days with a tour group - breakfast & supper is included. We are asking the kids to only pack 1 suitcase & I have asked to bring 2...1 smaller one full of food ! I expect to get really sick of packaged gluten-free bars...
  5. I don't think I could do that...ugh, throw on a laxative to an already spastic & cramped up gut ? With nausea ? My "aids" are Pepto Bismol and Tylenol or Motrin...but I usually just tough it out. Pepto helps but I don't take it unless I have to go to work or something. Tylenol - yeah, usually...Motrin is a last resort too because it too is hard on...
  6. That doesn't actually make a lot of sense....pig crap ? So if I eat beef I'm eating cow crap ? Fish swim in their own crap... Anyway, I'm looking at gluten. I am feeling better. Not sure if it was a virus or the pork...think I'll stay away from the pork for awhile, it's a rare thing for me to eat anyway.
  7. They were packaged in store I think - on a styrofoam sheet & wrapped in plastic. I dunno - as I sit here my sinuses are going to explode...maybe seasonal allergies or something ? Kill me now....LOL...very tired, sore, and headachy. Tylenol doesn't touch it & my tummy doesn't like motrin much...been picking stomach discomfort over facial & head...
  8. Bad headaches, mild intestinal upset, fogginess, and lots of fatigue. On the one hand, I could have a sinus infection coming on strong - but on the other hand I'm wondering if I've gotten glutened. Any ideas if Safeway pork would have anything in it ? I doubt it but it's all I can think of - pork chops my son & I made the other day (canned mandarin...
  9. Definitely a trigger ! I was so sick - some sort of bad virus. I couldn't eat/keep anything in for a week, lost five pounds I couldn't afford to lose, and ended up in the hospital emergency room getting 2 bags of IV fluids & a shot in my butt to stop my guts from constantly contracting. I wanted to die ! Took me a year to figure out why I got sicker when...
  10. I've tried the olive ones, sweet potato, buffalo, and multigrain...with no bad effects. Love the olive ones...
  11. I've thought about this quite a bit too...my reactions have definitely gotten worse after going gluten free. I have several theories though...my mom asked me this once because I am so sensitive now - did going gluten-free make it worse ? Yes & no. How does one know they wouldn't have gotten worse anyway ? I have talked to one woman who was suspected...
  12. Ok - so I did something sorta stupid the other day - I made cinnamon buns with my son...with "real" flour. There was flour flying everywhere. We did it at the kitchen table to avoid my gluten-free areas but he needed help kneading the dough. Yeah...I inhaled stuff & it was all over my hands & everywhere. About 10 minutes later I was out of it - I...
  13. I won't turn down a social situation merely because of food either. People know I'm celiac & sensitive, 'nough said. I bring my own food and eat that - nice people bring me good coffee. There is no way I would eat something someone else made for me - so not worth it, I tried that several times. They'll cook even a gluten free mix in a gluteny pan...
  14. I'm in BC and when I had my "testing" about 5 years ago my doc totally messed up...and so did I. I thought I was going in for a biopsy, she thought I was going in to see if my GERD damage was bad (no biopsy/celiac check was included). My doc figured a negative blood test was good enough, despite years of stomach issues and a very severe viral illness that...
  15. I had some cat scratches on my hand and was packaging crackers for my kids' lunches - I do a bunch at a time to reduce my exposure. The cuts stung from the salt...didn't think much of it at the time but half an hour later I felt ill, had a headache, and my sinuses flared up. Typical symptoms for me...though the stomach symptoms were milder.
  16. Sadly, you just may never convince some people. These folks have known you for years and seen you eat gluten for years - and they often don't get it. No one can feel what you feel when you are on gluten - they don't feel it, they don't get it. Stick to it - eventually most of them will get it. I agree they will see you feel better, act better (I know...
  17. I don't suppose there are any tests for casein sensitivity ??? Is there a lot of casein in chocolate ? I'm really having a hard time with this - I ate some Purdy's chocolate last week and ugh ! Maybe it was contaminated (gluten). Maybe something else I ate was...and/or throwing in some milk products was too much. The only dairy I regularly have...
  18. Ok...so I think I am sensitive to dairy so I tried lactose free cheese and cut dairy right down. It *seems* that dairy still affects me so I'm now looking at casein. I was just reading up on it - I feel kinda ick after having some chips & salsa & sour cream...turns out sour cream doesn't have lactose (I read that hard cheese, sour cream, and yogurt...
  19. Once again looking for something that "got me"...suspecting orange flavored Craisins (natural flavors)... From the website... Based on documentation from our ingredient suppliers, Ocean Spray beverages and sauces are free from this type of gluten. Craisins
  20. I'm the only gluten-free one in my house (of 5). Most of the counters are "mine" - I bought a small island on wheels at Walmart for about $200 and placed it on one side of the kitchen - all the bread products and the gluten toaster is over there. I actually have small signs I printed on the tile on the wall by the rest of the counters saying "gluten free...
  21. I don't eat cereal much but I do like Mesa Sunrise (Nature's Path) - but I dress it up with some dried cranberries & nuts or a chopped up banana. I use low fat Silk soy milk - tastes pretty good. I've tried Bakery on Main's granola & it is SUPER sweet - must have loads of sugar - but since I have some I sometimes put some on my cereal as well...
  22. Why not stil have pizza & cake ?!?!?! Buy some gluten free pizza shells and throw some toppings on - make a gluten free cake or cupcakes - ice with gluten-free icing. Adapting feels much better than missing out !
  23. My favorite breakfast is rice, egg, dried fruit & nuts. I always have steamed brown rice in my fridge - mix about a cup of it with an egg and some dried cranberries & blueberries and chopped walnuts & microwave - yum. Not the nicest looking breakfast but very nutritious and filling. A lady I work with eats this too (we teach a lot of fitness...
  24. I get a few things at Safeway - check out their own brands for a gluten free list online - surprisingly there are quite a few products. As for Kinnikinick stuff, definitely cheaper than our health food store, and it goes on sale periodically here too (just isn't in the fliers). Also - I was in our new expanded Shopper's Drug Mart the other day - they...
  25. So my brother & SIL decide that for Xmas they are taking our family of 5 out for supper (we're all away on holiday). So we go to a place called the Organ Spot - pizza, pasta, subs, small salad bar that didn't look safe. I googled it a couple of days before and wasn't happy at the get go. Of all the places to go, why there ?!?!?!??! I really tried...
