  1. Had to put this out there...from another thread. On holidays from Canada, here in Arizona and been very sick for 4+ days...lotsa D and cramps and ugh ! This is what I've narrowed it down to. It is NOT on the Safeway gluten free list (only the regular half & half is). So...just to be clear it's LUCERNE FAT FREE HALF & HALF....not regular...
  2. I think I may have figured it out... Lucerne brand fat free half and half ???? It has natural flavors in it & is not on the Safeway gluten free list (only the regular half & half is). Have you seen the ingredients in this ? Anyone know ?
  3. I'm on vacation in Az and it has not been good - I had 4 days of wicked nausea & lots of D, esp. first thing in the morning. We went away to Vegas for a few days & I recovered. Well, now we're back @ relatives in Az and I'm sick again. Thing is, I haven't eaten anything yet this morning but I had two cups of coffee (as is my usual routine)...my intestinal...
  4. Food Should Taste Good chips (Olive or Buffalo) Store bought brushetta with no obvious gluten ingredients Bakery on Main Rainforest granola (gluten-free) Silk no fat soy milk Red Bridge beer ?? On vacation in Arizona eating gluten-free stuff - mostly from Sprouts. Had the big D last three mornings but didn't feel bad...no headaches as per usual with...
  5. Ugh - I spent 5 hours in Seattle airport on my way to holidays here and I let it all get to me. I was so hungry ! I did have a baked potato & some chili @ Wendy's when we got there but that only lasted so long. We really live in a gluten-y world ! Ok, so I could have had more Wendy's and maybe I'm fussy. I hate eating the same thing. It just didn...
  6. I'll chime in here too - definite sinus issues with gluten & dairy. Sometimes I feel like I'm wearing a lone ranger mask - a little too tight. I get puffy & dark under my eyes and I swear the vision in my right eye is affected (maybe just makes my astigmatism worse). I get wicked sinus headaches on gluten - sometimes so bad Tylenol is useless...
  7. Last summer I reacted to the gluten free Kettle chips...it was a definite reaction since it was the only manufactured product I had. I think it was even the flavor you mentioned. I'd like to know how that can happen - something labelled gluten-free gets us.
  8. I bought a 3 lb bag of TruRoots quionoa at Costco - the label says pre washed and gluten free. I have suspected other brands of quinoa of glutening me in the past but this brand has never bothered me...I wanna buy bags of it next time I go. Nice - the larger bag cost less than the small box at my health food store (whose prices have risen a lot lately...
  9. ang1e0251 - I meant to add that taking the B complex at night might not help sleep - that's why I take mine in the am....I did try to take it in the evening after my friend said how helpful it was but I did find it kept me awake ! Great advice !
  10. I have heard taking a B complex can help sleep - a lady I work with swears by this. I take one anyway (good idea for celiacs) but I found it's better to take in the am (she takes hers in the pm). I don't have sleep problems. As for the contamination issue - I have gluten-free signs on most of my counters & on my toaster and the gluten folks in my...
  11. I've just started hockey myself - wow, tought stuff ! I love it though. I'm definitely a rookie ! I'm also a runner and instructor and I find food/nutrition is so important to stamina and recovery. I think the general rule of thumb is lots of fluid, like you're doing, and grazing. After a workout you need some carbs to start the refueling process - simple...
  12. I printed out signs. They're kinda cute - they say "gluten free zone" with a wheat sheath crossed out in a circle and they are on my wall & toaster. I have allocated one small counter in my kitchen for the gluten eaters - on an island I bought specially for it ! I am the cook so I get most of it. Anyway, labelling seems to help and ensure no (little)...
  13. Ok...no obvious gluten ingredients here but wicked stomach cramps. I either got a bad jar or there is something in there - anyone else had problems with this big jar of fish from Costco ?!?!?!?
  14. 1- if walmart says naturally gluten free, is it? Probably - I relied on Walmart's gluten-free stuff for awhile - the stuff that didnt' say "contains gluten" but lately, as they have changed a lot of their packaging, not sure it's so reliable anymore (some formerly gluten free stuff no longer says so). 2- I love coffee.... but can't find which coffee...
  15. I agree - dairy & caffienne can mimick glutening -esp if I have been minorly glutened somewhere else they can bother me. I think the chocolate and/or vanilla topping isn't safe either..
  16. I disagree as well. I have a theory about this - I think the effects are cummulative. When I visit relatives it seems some small bit of gluten totally gets me - what I really think is happening is that it's the result of continued minor glutenings. They really do try hard, but of course they don't have gluten-free baking pans, etc. I often find that, when...
  17. I agree - even if stuff is labelled, it probably wouldn't be safe anyway. And honestly, it's a lot of work for a lot of people to do so you can *maybe* have some safe food. Someone brought gluten-free cupcakes (home made) to work the other day and I didn't even try them. They would definitely be made in glutened pans so it wasn't worth it. I get sick when...
  18. Dark circles here too - definitely worse when I get glutened ! Dairy makes it worse as well for me too (dairy has become an issue!).
  19. I too have found that I have gotten way more sensitive to gluten over time - from not having it. It hardly seems fair - I could hire myself out as a gluten detector ! Anyway, over time I have purchased all my own kitchen stuff to keep things gluten-free. I do find that when I am at relatives I feel a bit ill after a couple of days or so, & I try so...
  20. This is my favorite recipe from "Living Without" website - I love them ! They also work well crushed for easy pie crusts. Old Fashioned Ginger Snaps 1/2 c shortening (I used lite becel marg) 1/2 c sugar 4 T brown sugar 4 T molasses 4 T bitter orange marmalade (this adds awesome flavor, any marmalade will do) 1 t vanilla extract 2 c gluten-free...
  21. I live in BC and I buy Tinkyada lasagna noodles - either at Safeway or our local health food store. Make sure you don't over cook them and no one will even notice they're gluten free. However, don't drain them in your regular gluten-y colander and make sure all pots & pans are well scrubbed to avoid cross contamination. Enjoy !
  22. Interesting - I can't do Lay's stacks chips even though they should be safe - but then I think I'm developing a more sensitive dairy issue. Tostitos are hit & miss. It is SO hard to travel. I'm with family right now and we made sushi 2 days ago & I am still recovering. No obvious gluten that I can figure out unless it's in smoked salmon (!)...maybe...
  23. I KNOW I've been glutened by so called gluten-free items. I am a pretty sensitive celiac and a very careful one. When I am at home and get sick I can usually pinpoint exactly what got me, mostly because my diet doesn't vary too much. Off the top of my head, I know Kettle chips affect me, despite their gluten free label. I've eaten in 4 restaurants with...
  24. People seem to have a problem with change - you used to eat whatever and now you don't and sometimes people resist that. I tried to educate, just like you did. Problem is twofold - first, they often don't get it, ALL of it, and make a mistake somewhere. The second problem is even harder to explain to folks - all of their cookware, strainers, pans, etc. have...
  25. I have similar stomach issues - it's not a gastritis but dyspepsia...though the symptoms are similar. I believe that with a gastritis there is actual inflammation of the stomach lining, and it usually is caused by infection. When I eat gluten I get wicked stomach cramps, as well as other symptoms - the severity depends on the amount I have eaten. I get...
