  1. Depends on your symptoms. I take a sinus/allergy non drowsy med if I need to work because I get wicked sinus headaches from gluten and before I know it my shoulders are all tight & it's miserable. Rarely, if it is really bad, I take advil because tylenol never touches these headaches. However, advil does a number on my stomach so it has to be really...
  2. Yep - that's me on gluten ! I look ill - dark circles under my eyes and that puffiness. For me it (partly) comes from my sinuses. Exercise helps me cope and helps with water retention/puffiness (if your gut is ok with it). I work at a pool & the chlorine in the air aggravates glutened sinuses something terrible - if I'm glutened and need to work I...
  3. I remember reading somewhere on the 'net - in all the celiac/gluten-free stuff I've read - that the Atkin's diet was responsible for leading to quite a few celiac diagnoses. People had tried the diet and felt better - things like the big D had improved - and it led them to look harder at their diet and, with docs, realize gluten was a problem. No, the Atkins...
  4. I love Kinnikinick's pancakes - I make a big batch and lay them out on a pan to freeze them individually - and then put them in ziplocs so they won't stick together.
  5. A brief history... My 'journey' began with sinus issues, after a history of stomach complaints from my teenage years on that was chalked up to IBS. The sinus problems started at 35 years of age, and were followed by headaches, joint pain & fatigue, irritableness, etc. I had xrays and a CT scan of my sinuses, tried various nasal sprays, had an allergy...
  6. Did you bake your cookies on glutened pans ??? I glutened myself with Gluten Free Pantry's yummy brownie mix after I made then in a mini muffin tin that had gluten in it. Ugh. I'd also look at what else you are eating since I'm sure you aren't just eating cookies.
  7. I ALWAYS carry food with me. I've had stomach issues for years (go figure) and I am also one of those people who gets hungry all the time and pretty much grazes, so if I'm really hungry I will eat almost anything. I have this cute little lunch bag that has a big strap like a purse. It has two compartments and it's big enough to hold a water bottle...
  8. I guess when I wrote I will no longer buy Enjoy Life, it's in part because I will buy other brands. I like Glutino and Kinnikinnick stuff way better, as well as Gluten Free Pantry. I just keep feeling jipped when I buy Enjoy Life, opening up the product to find a tiny package within - with a high price tag. I make my chocolate chip cookies with the mini...
  9. I got glutened at a Red Robin in Edmonton. I had rice with a veggie stir fry and chicken - asked for gluten free, clean out the pots, etc. My bad becauase I KNEW the veggies had something on them and ate them anyway, probably because I was with about 8 other people. That was lunch and my day of shopping was totally ruined. Grrrrr.... I wouldn't trust them...
  10. Ok, so I made some sushi and I *think* that's what is killin' me. Ingredients... mushrooms shrimp smoked salmon asparagus red pepper pickled halibut sushi rice rice vinegar nori sheets Braggs amino acids (as soy sauce) wasabi pickled ginger So...what's the culprit ?!?!?!? I'm guessing smoked salmon (don't have the package to read), the...
  11. So...I've decided I am no longer buying any Enjoy Life Products. One, they are expensive (well, yeah, so is most gluten-free stuff). Two, I haven't really found any of their products I actually like - they seem to lack flavor (tried those small round cookies, cranberry granola, and their bars). Thirdly, and importantly, everything they sell...
  12. Ok, heard something about some dental products used by dentsist NOT being gluten-free. Anyone ?? Going in for a root canal tomorrow.
  13. So, been reading after feeling sorta weird lately - light headedness, fatigue, shortness of breath and some dizziness - all of which *could* be attributed to a deficiency of B12. Also noted that some celiacs get B12 shots to keep levels up. Anyone familiar with this ? If so, how was it decided to get B12 shots, how was it even decided to measure B1...
  14. Wow, this is encouraging to see - so many gluten-free or mostly gluten-free households. I made the stupid mistake a couple of months ago of buying a breadmaker for my family - for wheat bread. Those darn crumbs get everywhere and my sinuses & I are always upset. I SHOULD have made the breadmaker gluten-free - I wonder if I can clean out the pan...
  15. Costco is getting some neat LABELLED gluten free stuff in lately. RiceWorks chips - sweet chili flavor (found other flavors recently at Safeway) Sunrose Calrose Brown rice - large bag Bora Bora bars (remind me of sesame snack but with more goodies, like almonds, etc.). These bars are not as sweet as the May's stuff. I bought the Mrs. May's Cran Blueberry...
  16. Anyone had a reaction to this ? I had one at work yesterday and it was followed by nausea & headaches and general ill feeling. I can't find any recent info on gluten and this yogurt or cross contamination. However, my son is sick too so I'm not sure if it is the yogurt or that ! TIA.
  17. Wow, I'm impressed OP - you two sure stuck to your guns against a lot of opposition. I'm also one of those who lost weight AFTER going gluten-free. I wasn't big to begin with but dropped about 5 pounds and that set off some alarm bells from my folks too. Now that I am strictly gluten-free my weight is very stable. I'm very active (fitness instructor...
  18. I've had three kids...talk about stomach distension ! I think you can get most of your ab "tone" back, but it'll take some work. Browse the net for ab exercises and do them - hit the abdominals from all directions - crunches alone won't do it. Do regular crunches, cross over crunches, bicycle, etc. Change it up constantly. Get an exercise ball and do...
  19. One of my first (and most persistent) symptoms from gluten involves intense sinus headaches with eye pain - headaches tylenol barely touches. Does anyone else out there have similar symptoms ?!?!? I also get stomach aches and joint aches and fatigue, etc. Anyway, if you have such symptoms, do you take anything to alleviate them ?? I was wondering...
  20. CC makes me dizzy/light headed and can give me heart palpatations/mixed up heart rate. Sometimes that's my first clue, esp. if it's just cross contamination (low dose of gluten). Before I knew anything about gluten issues, the heart palpatation thing really scared me ! It was like missing a beat here & there and then a couple of quick ones trying to catch...
  21. My symptoms are somewhat variable. Always - brain fog, irritability, tiredness, sinus congestion & pain that means major headaches, acid reflux, bloating Sometimes - the intestinal issues, nausea, joint pain I had some ice cream last night that definitely had no wheat/gluten ingredients but my sinuses did flare up & I felt really tired -...
  22. I "use" exercise all the time - it's my biggest coping mechanism ! I teach group fitness and do weights, yoga, run, etc. - always makes me feel better & stronger. I'm maintaining my weight, not losing or gaining. If you are worried about weight loss, make sure you are eating enough calories - chances are if you add a lot of activity you will need...
  23. I see you haven't gotten any results yet - I don't come here very often because it loads so slowly on my computer (dunno why - only forum to do so), but I can relate to what you are saying. Are you strictly gluten-free ? I get joint pains when I gluten myself, and it gets worse the more gluten I ingest. Before I was stricter I had a lot of ankle issues...
  24. Robix - I can so relate ! Do you have a celiac diagnosis ? I will always wonder if I have celiacs since my testing was all screwed up... Anyway, my symptoms are similar. Sometimes I will swear I have to pee really bad during a workout/class and if I do stop to go (obviously not during a class), I find I didn't have to go too bad at all. Definitely sensitizes...
  25. NMW, are you diagnosed Celiac ? I'm undiagnosed because my doc tested me after I was gluten-free...lots of screw ups, certainly would have done things differently had I known more about celiacs. I even had a scope but, again, I was gluten-free for a few months and no one took any biopsies (the scope was more for GERD...which started suspiciously at the same...
