  1. Thank you, once again, everyone for replying :). I posted this topic in part for proof for my mother that I'm not the only one. I think knowing that there are others in the same situation is what gives both of us hope :)

    I tried one enzyme, Lipram Cr-10, and it is gluten-free, but it still made me nauseaous. Whenever I took it, I'd feel nauseaous 10-15 minutes later and the nausea would stay for numerous hours.

    I'll probably try some different enzymes, etc. once school settles down--I'm applying out for high school this year, and in NYC it's REALLY competitive--lots of interviews, lengthy applications, etc.

    P.S. 6+ days without symptoms!....it had been getting pretty bad--getting sick every 3-5 days. I'll keep my fingers crossed....... :lol:

  2. What I wouldn't give to eat a hot dog or hamburger on a bun. I don't even like hot dogs but they look soooo good on a bun. Hamburgers just aren't the same with out a bun either. I just had to sit through lunch and watch everyone at the table eat burritos. 

    PastorDave try the Chebe Pizza Crust. I think I like them better than regular crust. 

    Definitely try chebe...i'd recommend making the crust using the regular chebe bread mix, though, rather than the mix for the pizza crust....turns out better using that one to make the crust in my opinion.

  3. Have you ever noticed that when you're telling someone about the gluten-free diet for the first time, how they go through this list of foods saying "So you can't have ____?"

    And when they get to bread, they so often get emotional about it: "So you can't have a sandwich? Or a hamburger? Or a hot dog?" Life would be so much easier if there was good, gluten-free bread around.

    OH, YES! :rolleyes: .....the list goes on and on. Then many start to think that I can eat hardly anything. They start asking about milk, meat, vegetables, fruits....also funny.....what would I be eating then?

    Have you ever had anyone ask if you could have white bread??? After all it's not "wheat" bread? I love that one.

    Yes, another good one came from my dad when I was first diagnosed and he and my brother were clueless. He thought that with cereals I could have corn flakes since it's CORN flakes and not something like frosted mini WHEATS......lol

    I don't miss tasty bread like many...well, not sliced bread...i can make do with ener-G and kinnickinick. I miss italian bread...used to love that, too...and I miss everything that's sorta bready/pastay: pizza, cheese ravioli, bagels, etc.

  4. The peanut butter one and the s'mores one are both gluten-free. I have not had any reactions to those two flavors. I believe the cookies 'n' creme flavor has the malt. I no longer eat those even though they are on the gluten-free list according to Atkins. Just read the label and be careful!

    Yes...that was the one I was about to eat until I saw malt on the label...that's pathetic and...not right...that a company would claim it's gluten-free, yet it has malt on the label! It makes you wonder if you can trust the company at all--

  5. Ditto...I'll write mine next time I log on...my mother told me not to stay online long because we have dial up :( I miss wireless and LAN.

    LOL....I had dial-up for a long time until the connection got so slow that I'd try to pull up a website, walk away and do something else, then come back in twenty minutes to check. My parents decided it was enough :lol:

  6. Someone here e-mailed Atkins awhile back and received a long gluten-free list. Many of the Atkins Advantage bars are gluten-free and in a second I'll go find that link. However, I think I remember one of the bars on the list to have "malt" in the ingredients. I was appalled to read that and thus, didn't eat that type of bar. I've found that all Atkins products that I've used since they're supposedly gluten-free have made me feel sick. Besides that, the lengthy ingredients list makes them look very unhealthy :lol:

  7. I thought we had to watch out for lotions and cosmetics etc even?

    Well, you wouldn't want to use a lotion that contains gluten on your hands, because if you ate or prepared something with your hands, you could get the lotion on it. Additionally, the lotion could get under your fingernails or something. However, gluten is not absorbed through your skin, so provided that you could guarantee that the lotion wouldn't get onto your hands or into your food, it would be guaranteed not to get you sick.

    Cosmetics....I think they should be gluten-free for the same reasons. Lipsticks and chapsticks containing gluten would certainly get in your mouth. Mascara containing gluten, I have heard, have irritated some's eyes. Any of the powdery stuff....well, if it got around your mouth somehow, it could be problematic. Basically, it's just safer to avoid gluten-containing products. However, I would doubt that you'd get the patch near your mouth and if you're concerned about some residue on it or something, just make sure you carefully wash your hands after touching it.

  8. Very cool idea......these will be interesting to read....i don't have one diagnosis story that i can use...I guess i sorta type it up each time so each time it's a little differently structured. I should probably type up one and save it........ahh, rambling. cool idea, though, I'll post back later when I have a little time to spare to write my story :)

  9. HA HA celiac3270........you post on my board!! I guess I just must be special

    Even on the yahoo groups it is hard to get a time set aside to "chat" because people live in so many different time zones etc! I own a board there and I have tried getting the chat feature going and it seems to be hard for that reason. I would LOVE to be able to use that more, I think it would be a great resource.

    Yes, that's another obstacle...there's a three hour difference between the east coast and the west coast...then there are also people from the UK on many of these boards.....there's a 5 hour difference between the east coast of the US and the UK....etc.

  10. I would like to say that a lot of eating disorders are caused by gluten intolerance because you feel better when you don't eat, cause you are not eating food that posion your body. so you overall feel better

    Yes...gluten has a lot of strange and different effects....I mean, some people get sort of addictions to gluten and they crave the foods that make them sick (pizzas, breads, etc.) I bet many celiacs here were bread/pizza/pasta lovers before diagnosis. Then there are those who had aversions to such foods because they made them sick.....it's all very confusing :)

  11. If you have space in your room, you might try getting one of the following: toaster oven, george foreman grill, hotplate. If you get a hotplate, you can cook anything you'd cook on a burner at home--that means you can have your gluten-free noodles, etc. The toaster oven is helpful because you can not only toast breads, but make potatoes, Ore Ida french fries, etc. Remember, though, that if a non-gluten-free bread goes into your toaster, it contaminates it.....make sure, if you get one, that a roommate doesn't shove a regular bagel into it or something....George foreman grill = definitely gluten-free meat. Now, if you already have access to a stove, you wouldn't need a hotplate, etc., but these are just suggestions.

    Amy's meals are good, but be careful...not all are gluten-free, so you need to make sure it says so on the box and not just assume that all are gluten-free.
