  1. Rachel, Your friend sounds like he could benefit from your knowledge of food. It's nice that you have someone you can pal around with. We went to church today, first time in awhile with my daughters sickness and then with the baby. We went upstairs since my daughter wanted to go to the fellowship hall, to see who was in the kitchen. The first...
  2. Don't be too hard on yourself. There is a wealth of knowledge to learn and it's available on this board. Keep you chin up and go through whether you are accidentally getting glutened...if not then maybe check out other allergies like dairy and soy.
  3. I don't know. DQ2 and/or DQ8 predispose to gluten sensitivity/intolerance. Out of the four of us in my family tested, one has DQ8, one has DQ2 & DQ8, one has two DQ2, and one has one DQ2. From enterolab DQ2 or DQ8 are celiac genes but they don't go into just the 8 being rare alone. If you only have the one celiac gene than you're offspring has a ...
  4. Thanks for the links Rachel. I wish now that I had kept up with info on msg. I unknowingly consumed more than I would have liked to during the last pregnancy. With all the msg sprayed on crops now it will be a wonder if that many children now grow up without some sort of problem(s).
  5. Please Mandy. Stay gluten free and make the choice to do your best to eat gluten free when you go out. My family of 5 has 3 that are gluten intolerant/sensitive, 1 that is not and 1 that is too young to be tested by enterolab. We will get him tested when we get the money to. The whole family is on a gluten free diet and none of us had any symptoms that...
  6. I just got the uncheese cookbook on ebay. If you decide to do that, watch for shipping to see if it is fair. Amazon also has it. I haven't checked Barned & Noble or Borders.
  7. Please don't make soy a staple in your diet but us sparingly if you choose to use it. My family that has been tested by enterolab came back with 2 soy intolerant/sensitive and 2 that scored 9 with 10 being the intolerant/sensitive level. Soy is highly allergenic and can cause damage to the intestines as well. Stick with Rice Dream ice cream or sorbet and...
  8. If you don't want to continue with the gluten filled diet with her you could always do the enterolab stool test. She is definately old enough for that. www.enterolab.com. I have read that a lot of tests are inconclusive before 5 yrs but don't know if that includes blood tests. If you suspect she has gluten intolerance or celiac and your insurance covers...
  9. If you can swing it I would also recommend enterolab. I had our family done after my allergy tests came back with moderate wheat/gluten/gliadin/soy allergies. Out of the 4 of us that got tested 3 of us have an active intolerance. We had no blood work done or anything since no one had any obvious symptoms. My oldest son has a mild malabsorption also and...
  10. As Ursula said, you have an active intolerance to gluten and casein which means gluten and casien free. The fecal fat score means you have moderate damage to the intestines and your genes being subtype 2 & 8 mean you have two genes that predispose to celiac. With your scores I would assume you have celiac but at least you know for sure you are gluten...
  11. Patti referred me to this and I keep forgetting to look for it at Wild Oats.
  12. I ordered an expensive balm online from Australia. It is really good. Do a search for David Hosking's Soothing Face & Body Balm. Telephone (03) 9379-7797, for orders and inquiries. I bought this for my infant son's eczema. They also have something for eczema that is sold. No steroids or anything. Chlorhexidine .001% as a safe antiseptic, Lanolin...
  13. Thanks Julie. I actually went to Target 1 week or so ago. I bought a whole bunch of stuff but didn't see the pans. I'll check them out online.
  14. Soy has no gluten, so in that respect it is ok. Soy can cause damage to your intestines as well so if you choose to eat it, eat sparingly.
  15. Does anyone know where to find the baby loaf pans? 5 x 3 I think they are.
  16. It's called The Vaccine Guide Risks and Benefits for Children and Adults by Randell Neustaedter OMD. Very good balanced book. He lists the pros and cons, if you will, of vaccines. It's available at Amazon I believe...if not let me know and I'll list the other website I had learned about it from.
  17. Any vaccine out there can induce an adverse reaction in some children. I have a book I can look up specific reactions to if you are interested. My youngest will not be getting the full immunization schedule and at this point I'm only debating the Hib. He had his two month shots and broke out in his eczema 1-2 weeks after. I still think the Pnuemococcal...
  18. My infant son broke out in eczema when he was a little over two months old. I don't know what caused the flair up (although I have my suspicions) but after I underwent allergy testing I found out I was allergic to soy and wheat/gluten/gliaden along with other things. I elimated soy and most gluten right away (except some oats, rice dream, carob chips) and...
  19. No wonder you haven't been writing as much Rachel. Why does your Mom need a scale on vacation. To make sure she doesn't gain too much weight or to keep you from weighing in all the time? Where's everybody been on this thread? Weekend is over and the next one is almost here again. Hubby is taking 3 of his boys to a ball game Sunday so I'm...
  20. Welcome! After you get the scope done get ready to go gluten-free. It's really not that bad. I second the opinion on getting Annalise Roberts Gluten Free Baking Classics. You will learn everything you wanted to learn on this board and then some.
  21. Please keep us posted. Don't remember if I said "welcome" on your other thread. You'll get lots of info here.
  22. That's great news all around Tanya! I bet the doctors are happy with her weight gain. Does that make things better for surgery next month?
  23. That's great that everything went well. Nothing wrong with being concerned about how it would go. That's only natural. As mothers we tend to worry or be concerned about a number of things that face us and our children as they grow.
  24. Ok. Here goes. The first two recipes are from Five Loaves Deli and Bakery by Neva Brackett. Cashew Mayonnaise 1/2 c cashew nuts 1 3/4 c water 2 Tbs. cornstarch (you can sub arrowroot) 2 tsp. salt 1 Tbs. onion powder 2 Tbs. lemon juice 3 Tbs. honey 1 Tbs. orange juice conc. 1. Blend all ingredients together for...
  25. There are gluten free meals out there but then you have a lot of additives. You could always set aside one day to prepare things and freeze them until you need them. Meats can be cooked and frozen unless they will be used in 4-5 days (although it's best to use them within 3), rice, beans. Things that take time to cook. Then all you would need to do is...
