  1. Glad, you're so on-top-of things, but I'm not sensing much empathy here.
  2. I feel the exact same way. That's why I told my mom that I hate Thanksgiving. One year I went to a former boyfriend's house and his cousin (a chef) kept trying to get me to eat stuff with flour in it. People kept saying, why can't you have this? Or that? I felt SO uncomfortable. My brother was such a butthead one christmas (he was jealous my grandma...
  3. Boyfriend sends text message to me at work last (rainy)Friday: //Do you have a valid passport and can you get Monday off work?// So, we fly to Cancun that night and have a great time! (His bday weekend) We crammed snorkeling, zip-line riding over the jungle canopy (I'd seen it on the travel channel and was dying to do it), rappeling, bicycling, kayaking...
  4. No fried alligator for me! I really did want to try it, even tho it probably tastes just like chicken! My mother and I cooked our own Thanksgiving for Two. She was upset that I said I hate Thanksgiving. My brother is allergic to poultry, so it's not like I'm the only one who doesn't like this holiday. So we made it "our" way. We loved it. My mom...
  5. Hello, I think I can relate to this because the first time I was off work for the summer with celiac, I was extremely lethargic and somewhat depressed, I think. I hardly did anything and I made myself eat once a day...I made a rule that if I hadn't eaten anything by 9 P.M. I had to eat at that time, because I was aware that anorexia can go along with...
  6. It sounds like the teacher was a very good listener. I am glad you are considering other resources. Academics and student safety are a teacher's main concern. Your child seems safe, and hopefully he's learning a lot. It seems like you realize that your child's age has a lot to do with his feelings about being perceived as different. I think you did...
  7. I woke up before the alarm this morning and a silly little poem shaped itself in my mind within a couple of minutes: Back 2 Front, Front 2 Back, I'm hundred percent celiac. It rules my life in many ways, Cuz getting glutened means pain for days. Grocery shopping, dining out, or being a guest, Are incredibly stressful events, at best. Poke...
  8. I teach fourth grade and my students love: popcorn, pencils, ice cream, toys from Oriental Trading Company I also think a GREAT idea would be to order the CUSTOM M&Ms with cool colors of your son's favorite sports team or his name or age or something. ALSO Those SMELLY PENCILS that come in the long tube. SMENCILS? You order them online and...
  9. You were right, he did say allergy. This is the exerpt from the show..pasted from website: Part of it was external stress. But we also uncovered something that was inside of you," Dr. Oz tells Wendy. "You have celiac disease
  10. Detective tried to track down a bakery that would create a gluten free cake, so we wouldn't have a box-cake or a frozen one. I finally helped him out with the name of one, and even that one said they needed 2 weeks notice! What are they gonna do...order it from the midwest where all the good stuff comes from and then pass it off as theirs? Gimmeabreak...
  11. I live in Riverside, and the problem is that Californians are health conscious, but in that WHOLE GRAINS kind of way. Which is terrible for us! Plus, where I live white people seem to be the minority, and the only celiacs I've met are white. So, REDLANDS is where my celiac support group is. Redlands has a great grocery store with a gluten free section...
  12. I saw it and I think he said a GLUTEN INTOLERANCE. He also said it something like It was tearing her insides apart. I thought he made it sound really serious.
  13. I literally go NUTS over Kozy Shack! I'm glad to know I have company...
  14. There are lots of gluten free root beers: Barq's caffeine free Barq's diet Barq's Blue Sky Root beer A&W Mug Stewart's Hires
  15. Ashes falling from the sky. My nose is bleeding from breathing the air. Electricity off this morning, glad I woke up without alarm. At work, the students are not allowed outside for recess, but we are lucky, most districts closed today. They gave us face masks to wear. It's the worst in the eleven years I've lived here. Arsonists, ugh.
  16. Latest find: Ian's Chicken Nuggets (at Henry's Market) YUM! I dip them in gluten-free bbq sauce Latest flub: bf talked me into buying gluten-free cookies and when I ate them, I couldn't believe how good they were...so much so that I became suspicious, and--they were the regular kind. They had been right next to the Gluten-Free kind and somehow I must...
  17. It was my first trip to New England and I went to Boston, New Hampshire, and Maine. Aside from paddling kayaks (boy, am I still strong!), riding the subway, railroad train, ferries, and water taxis, kissing by lighthouses, getting Witchy in Salem, Mass., and generally being a tourist, I ate at several gluten free establishments recommended by someone on...
  18. Sounds good, what did you order at each place?
  19. Hooray for chewing! I'm off the soft- food- only diet! Immediately had the detective transport me to the fair and crunched up some corn on the cob, a PINK'S hot dog (bunless), and I wanted a caramel apple, but detective warned it's too crunchy and too chewy. Oh, well. Off prednasone and on 800 mg of ibuprofen, I got so dizzy at work. Now have to cut the...
  20. While my relationship is still heaven on earth, my delectable detective has been nurturing me through my latest health slump. I don't need ear surgery (no fluid), but the specialist says I have TMJ, which is caused by stress and my high-strung personality. I do not grind my teeth (like many TMJ sufferers), however, I do clench my jaw when I'm stressed ...
  21. I get VERTIGO and the dr. gives me RX kind of dramamine, but finally a new Dr. said I have fluid in my ears. Now I have an appt. with Ear/Nose/Throat specialist. So much to worry about. Sometimes I can't believe how hard it is to just take care of myself!!
  22. I have been to a couple of Mimi's in Riverside County before. I printed out their gluten free menu. I had a terrible waitress who brought me gravy on my roast beef and croutons on my salad and none on my friend's. We were there for lunch and were late getting back because of all the mistakes. I had a better experience at another location when I ordered...
  23. I was watching Men In Trees (rerun) and the Asian lady said her husband has a "gluten allergy" really casually right in the dialogue and it fit right in the storyline. It was SO COOL!! I realize most celiacs know it's not an allergy, but that is a word the general public understands. Also, I went to Rubio's Baja Fresh and the guy at the counter pulled...
  24. Yes, I think anxiety can be correlated to celiac. I've seen in many sources that it takes a good three years to get a handle on the gluten free diet. I have ear problems (fluid, vertigo, etc.) and I can't get to the ear specialist until Sept., so I researched online and learned that an episode I experienced might be triggered by stress and one of the treatments...
  25. I still have nausea. I went to my new (and seemingly better) doctor for my ear pain and fuzziness and stuff and she told me she was surprised I could stand it. There is fluid in both ears and she referred me to an ear-nose-throat doc. I can't get in to see him until Sept., so I decided to preempt what he'd tell me by researching...especially since I still...
