  2. I chose Juno, and dragged the bf to see it, and HE ended up laughing HARDER than me!
  3. Who do you think is in the coffin?
  4. Revelation: I know why it takes 3 years to get a hang of the gluten-free diet-- Because it takes about that long to forget how real bread tastes! And when you've been NOT eating the real thing for two years, like me, you DO forget what the real thing tastes like. And THAT makes the fake versions much more palatable! Now the newbies at the celiac support...
  5. Hello, I see what you're saying. I work for a public school. It's unfortunate, but there are lots of complaining parents out there who are incredibly unreasonable, and so it ruins it for those with legitimate complaints. Example: I had a parent come in crying, saying her son was being bullied. She demanded that we provide him with a personal security...
  6. gluten-free foods I've tried lately: GlutenFreeda's frozen cookies- forgot the name of the flavor- something w/pb & ch chips- Ok, but 140 cal/ea. and I think they taste better frozen, just the dough, which is probably how I'll eat the rest of them. Ian's frozen fish sticks- excellent! Addictive! Very crunchy! Ian's frozen turkey corn dog bites...
  7. We're at the hotel bar area chatting with fellow vacationers, when my bf whispers to me, "This lady thinks I'm a pro-athlete." This is typical, so I wondered why he looked so flustered. I say, "Did you tell her you're not?" He says, "Yes, but she won't take no for an answer. She thinks I'm trying to be private." fyi, the Detective in 6'3" and slim...
  8. We discovered a new favorite song on our Cozumel island adventure, "Besa Me Mucho". We heard it at the musical show at our all-inclusive resort-- while the performers were singing, much to my surprise, mi novio (bf) started to sing along (he remembered the song from his CA Boys Choir Days -where he sang alongside Lenny Kravitz). My knees were like butter...
  9. You can beat or whip sweet potatoes like you would any mashed potato. Add br.sugar and butter. I have a yummy recipe somewhere from allrecipes website (type avocado in the search box) for a stuffed avocado- it was kind of a lot of work to chop everything, but they were a HIT at my SuperBowl party one year- since everyone seemed to be on a diet and shunning...

  14. I've been venturing out to dine a lot lately, eluding the Gluten Fiend and his cohorts, the Cross Contamination Crew (knock on wood). Devoured tantalizing ribs at Tony Roma's (all sauces & meats are gluten free) and corn on cob and potato. At Chili's (I often go there and eat ribs with no ill effects), I discovered a little trick. If I'm going somewhere...
  15. The nursery is so cute! (and the baby, too! )
  16. I kindof agree! Weddings often disappoint me! I don't like them anymore! I've been to different weddings where these things have happened: a bridesmaid didn't show up the DJ played the explicit version of the song the groom served the food the guests did the dishes and cleanup the groom's father wouldn't stop singing Elvis Karaoke they played Ava Maria...
  17. Making a list of what to cook, eat, and do for my 3 weeks off work: Order from Celiac Specialties: especially Dr. Schar's crackers and apple streudel and donuts. Buy Woodchuck Cider, Ian's Chicken Nuggets, Cravings Place Pancake mix Go to Whole Foods (far away) Find a Brazilian Restaurant Try to make Chile Relleno Make poppyseed coleslaw again...
  18. It's been 2 years since this gluten free segment of my life story has commenced. I think I can self-diagnose that I am over the stages of grief over the loss of my normal, carefree lifestyle. I have reached acceptance. The three year period I've read about that it takes to become thoroughly accustomed to the diet/lifestyle, seems to be correct. I still...
  19. If you want something with flavor, most thai food places make pad thai. It's not as exotic as is sounds. It can be made vegetarian style or with chicken or shrimp. Just make sure they don't put any type of egg roll or fortune cookie on the plate or any garnishes. They put peanuts in it, but you can request no peanuts. It is a stir fry dish with thin...
  20. Another teacher here! This year I was lucky- only one food gift (chocolates) that I COULD and DID eat! I got the most expensive gift ever- a $25 gift cert. to Kohl's!! and six more from students I have yet to open-- will tell on my blog after x-mas. (I teach at an at-risk school...my favorite gifts are chocolate and flowers from their gardens and fruit...
  21. Do the intimate wedding! I had 30 people and loved it! I had a rule that I didn't want to meet anyone that I didn't already know...also I kept it small by telling people it was just family. I sent fancy invitations: message-in-the-bottle, really!-in those boxes from the post office that have a rose on them. I had a harp playing and we overlooked the ocean...
  22. That is so terrible, Pyro. You deserve to be taken seriously. I go to a support group in my area. Have you looked for one on the boards to see if there's one near you? I think you are handling it very well, because I think I'd start throwing away all my mom's flour. You're too old to spank, aren't you? jk I use spray butter, so no knives go in there...
  23. I thought somebody said we could eat at Pick Up Stix. What can we order?
  24. I got glutened at Chic-Fil-A because there was a zucchini fried something or other in the bottom of my fries. On the West coast here, we have In-N-Out. Their fries aren't as good as McD's were back when I could eat them... I've never eaten Wendy's Fries. Love the chili (i order it with onions) and the potato, and frosty!
  25. I reacted to IBC...boyfriend unwittingly gave it to me...he'd never noticed that when I actually order soda (I'm not big on it), that I ask the brand... Also-- I watched a TV show on the Food Network and it showed how they make good old fashioned root beer and it had barley or something major like that in there! I was so ticked!
