  1. I wish I had a magic answer. I don't. Please hang in there because for the vast majority of folks, better days are coming. You're just 20. Your life is not ruined. Do you have family that can help you get through this? You might also see if there are some social services folks who can give you some advice on dealing with the medical needs and bills. ...
  2. I hate medicating but I started having fairly severe panic attacks and depression a few weeks after my daughter died suddenly (that's her picture on my messages) and I was unable to work. I now take Zoloft, which generally helps control it, and if I'm really stressed out or feel an attack coming on take half of an Ativan. I do this rarely and a half doesn...
  3. As long as the cheese hasn't been contaminated by cracker crumbs or some such, it's not a gluten problem. Regular block cheese just doesn't have gluten. Heck, Velveeta and Cheez Whiz are even gluten-free. richard
  4. Many people start eating large amounts when their bodies start healing because you're craving all the nutrients you weren't getting. I had been so ill that my doctor urged me to eat and eat, including lots of meat. At one point I had gained 80 pounds (that's from my lowest weight, which was way too low). Gaining 35-40 on my frame would have been fine, but...
  5. Celiac CANNOT be diagnosed by colonscopy. It's good to get those polyps out, but you still need an endoscopy. richard
  6. Look into an anti-anxiety medication like Ativan. Or more long-term like Zoloft. You would need to talk to your doctor about these, but after my daughter died Ativan and Zoloft helped keep me from going bonkers until I could stabilize. richard
  7. I would absolutely without question take a product with this statement, ESPECIALLY if it's a medication. Medications are so incredibly unlikely to have CC that I wouldn't even think about it. Many, many pharmaceutical companies now use this type of CYA because their lawyers tell them to and for no other reason whatsoever. Even if the company tested every...
  8. I wouldn't worry about paper towels and the sanitizers are probably gluten-free, but you can also always wash that off. I hate to say it, but if you keep getting sick, the real problem is almost certainly your job. If you're handling stuff with gluten all the time it's going to get into your mouth somehow. Inhaling is generally only a problem in place...
  9. A standard gyro meat recipe (you can find them simply by doing a google search) would be gluten-free. Lamb or lamb and beef mixed with spices and herbs and then cooked. But nobody here can tell you if the specific one you ate had gluten because we don't know the brand. You'd need to go back to the restaurant itself and find out the brand. Ask to see the ingredients...
  10. All raw meat must clearly list anything that adds nutrtional value, like wheat or barley. Just read the ingredients. richard
  11. I've had one major diverticulitis flare and the RX was an antibiotic and clear fluids for three days. Pretty boring but I lost weight and the pain subsided. Ignoring the pain can eventually lead to a perforated bowel and possible surgery to remove part of the bowel. richard
  12. I haven't had to deal with this, but anybody who misses a lot of class where participation is required may flunk or be forced to drop, even if the student has a good reason. I've known students who had to drop whole semesters for pneumonia, broken bones, cancer treatments and other illnesses. That's just simply the way it works. Sounds like he'd be much better...
  13. It is. Always. richard
  14. I think gluten can cause this but I wouldn't fool around with it. See a doctor. richard
  15. What brand? richard
  16. According to the companies more than a year ago, Aunt Jemima is gluten-free, but Log Cabin (except Country Kitchen) and Mrs. Butterworth's have barley in them. Remember that barley does not specifically have to be listed. richard
  17. By law, all fresh or raw chicken has to list any ingredient like wheat, barley, etc. Actually this applies to all fresh meat. richard
  18. Maltodextrin CAN contain wheat in the U.S., but it must be clearly listed as coming from wheat. richard
  19. DH on the face is not unheard of (although it is unusual) but to have it on your face only would be strange. If you've been strictly gluten-free since January and never had DH before, it would be very unusual to get it now. The only ways I know to get rid of DH are to be gluten-free and to take dapsone. And I doubt any doctor would prescribe dapsone without...
  20. Sudafed's response is pure CYA. I'd take it. richard
  21. I definitely had DH before going gluten-free and no psoriasis. Now the DH is gone and the psoriasis has arrived. Arrgghh. richard
  22. Standard advice from celiac doctors would be to at least do the blood tests while your son is eating gluten. Blood tests are no more invasive than having blood drawn and will not be accurate after your son is gluten-free unless he starts eating gluten again. The tests are not perfect but from everything I've read they're considered effective in most people...
  23. Jack Daniels. richard
  24. I keep hearing on here that MSG is gluten-free. On the other hand, I've seen this page, Open Original Shared Link which says it isn't. I haven't gotten a good answer from those who say MSG is gluten-free on the origin of their information. The page you mention as evidence that MSG might not be gluten-free is far from scientific and contains numerous errors...
