  1. In reality virtually all prescription medicines are gluten-free, although many companies now give you the CYA routine (if they tell you it's not supposed to have gluten but they won't guarantee it, you can assume it's gluten-free). I'd call Pfizer and ask them, but if I remember correctly they're not real cooperative. richard
  2. It most definitely takes a while to get comfortable with it. I read and read and read online, talked to people when I could, read books and called companies. It's been more than 4 years now and if I were starting today, I know it would be easier than when I did start. Still, I never take any sort of a gluten-free product list with me to the grocery store...
  3. Cotton candy is not a concern. It's gluten-free. richard
  4. Hi Lisa, I've never found or heard of a vanilla with gluten. I think pretty much everybody agrees now that vanilla in a product is not a concern by itself. Thanks for the good wishes. Father's Day was hard. I stayed as cheerul as I could for my son's sake and of course it was good to have him around. richard
  5. This is a cookbook with old info, probably written several years ago. We used to be warned about vanilla because of the distilled alcohol used in extraction, but we now know it is not a threat. Same thing with ketchup using distilled vinegar. richard
  6. I would request the tests but do NOT stop gluten yet. I agree about also doing a test for anemia. THE most common symptom among adults is not diarrhea but fatigue, and among children failure to thrive is a biggie. Do NOT let a doctor tell you your child can't have celiac disease because he doesn't have diarrhea. The distended belly and dark circles are...

    ARCHIVED Probiotics

I never did use them but I know that Cynthia Rudert (sp??), considered one of the top celiac doctors in the country, recommends all new patients take probiotics for a while. She's even had cases where other doctors diagnosed refractory sprue and the probiotics solved the problem. richard
  8. I can't remember the name of potato vodkas. Smirnoff is made from corn. Don't know of any club sodas or tonic waters that have gluten. Seems to me Rose's was NOT gluten-free a couple of years ago but haven't heard recently. richard
  9. The CC should be gluten-free and even if it weren't the amount of gluten would be extremely minor compared to other things you're probably still eating. richard
  10. It's probably gluten-free but the only way to be sure is to call the manufacturer. richard

    ARCHIVED Fiance

I'd say this is make or break for your relationship. You have celiac and will have it for the rest of your life. If he can't accept that, this will be a point of friction every single day. If you marry and he doesn't change, your marriage is doomed before you even say "I will." My next piece of advice might make things even worse. A person who has celiac...
  12. Never heard of a baking soda that has gluten. richard
  13. The Wendy's fries also were not on the "official" U.S. gluten-free list, but Wendy's confirmed that they were gluten-free if cooked in a dedicated fryer (at least in the U.S.). On their allergen list there a check by wheat, which indicates it could come in contact with wheat -- that is if the fryer isn't dedicated. richard
  14. The noly bacons I've ever seen that have gluten are Farmer John's (??) and the bacon at McDonalds, which isn't a real bacon anyway. richard
  15. MOST Wendy's have a dedicated fryer for fries. You have to ask. The fries do NOT have a wheat coating. They can be eaten if the fryer is dedicated. The Wendy's chili is gluten-free. The story about them using old hamburgers that had been on buns is a celiac urban legend. Using old burgers that way would be a health code violation in most places. richard
  16. It's gluten-free, although I think they did the CYA thing at least for a while. richard
  17. Yes, the "treatment" is not eating gluten. I guess undiagnosed celiac would be the more proper term, but I also think of it as untreated. richard
  18. Oral B has always been a CYA company. I wouldn't be concerned about unflavored prophy paste. richard
  19. gluten-free. It's made by Kraft anf Kraft will clearly list any gluten. richard
  20. Paper products are gluten-free. richard
  21. The type of medication used in an emergency is not going to have gluten, and even if it did, a dose is not going to kill us. People who die of celiac have been suffering untreated for a long time. Getting a bracelet is obviously a personal choice and if getting one makes you feel safer, you should. I choose not to get one because I don't have any immediately...
  22. My main reaction was that many of us get so upset because doctors don't seem to be up on the latest celiac information and don't know how to diagnose people. I'd have been much better off if my doctor had been up on it. This guy, however, IS up on the best info we have at this point and passes it to his patients. He seems top be exactly the type of doctor...
  23. I'm having a hard time with this thread. We complain because doctors and other medical people don't seem to be up on all the latest celiac info. Then we see a note from a doctor who obviously is quite up to date on the latest and what's our reaction? We argue and dispute what he says!!!! The doctor did not say the chance of getting the gene was 5 to 1...
  24. THE THREAD THAT WON'T DIE!!! The McD fries are gluten-free!!! Contamination, however, is another thing. Fast food restaurants are bad for CC. richard
