  1. In Chili's case, you have to contact them to get the list. With any chain, check their web site first. Some have a gluten-free list and some don't. And some don't have a gluten-free list but they very clearly list every single ingredient (nothing hidden in natural flavors or modified food starch) or they list the top eight allergens, which includes wheat...
  2. I don't know of any list that has all the gluten-free products in the world on it. Virtually all wines are gluten-free (I would say all but allegedly there are a handfull somewhere that use wheat to finish it off somehow). I'm sure you're safe if you stick with an American wine. Oh, and the wines you saw listed on this thread -- those are the only wines...
  3. I didn't say that you can't react to ingredients in an injection. I said you wouldn't have a celiac reaction. Allergic reactions are an entirely different thing and are very well documented. A rash, burning and redness is NOT celiac. Allergic and celiac reactions are not the same. As I think I said, I have also been told by medical people that injections...
  4. McCormick clearly lists any gluten so if it read OK, it was gluten-free. And I'm pretty certain the Montreal seasoning IS gluten-free. But of course with any processed product, contamination can always happen. And my wife, who is allergic only to shellfish, once felt bad after eating that seasoning. richard
  5. Spam is on the Hormel gluten-free list. Open Original Shared Link richard
  6. Having a vaccination is not a contradiction for ALL autoimmune diseases. I've never heard that people with celiac should avoid immunizations. I get the flu vaccine every year with no harmful results. It appears from another post by the same person that this is NOT a vaccine but a test to prove she is free of TB. In certain types of work, this most certainly...
  7. You can't know without asking. It's that simple. I go to a local restaurant run by native Mexicans and there's ALWAYS somebody there with enough command of English. If your waiter doesn't understand, ask for the manager. richard
  8. Just about every one I've checked. Woodchuck, K, Cider Jack, Woodpecker, Strongbow, Hardcore. Last time I heard Hornsby said it was NOT. richard
  9. Somebody might be able to help but you have to tell us which list and where. richard
  10. Actually, most things with this are OK. But you have to check with the manufacturer and ask becayse they could mask gluten. richard
  11. Nope. Hydrolyzing is the process they use to break the protein down. The danger comes when they don't identify which protein they're breaking down. richard
  12. The reason you avoid some unnamed hydrolized protein is that if it isn't named, it can be from anything. If they name a specific plant or food it's from, then that's what it's from. Hydrolized corn gluten would not have wheat in it. Same with something like "natural lemon flavor." You don't have to worry about that like you do "natural flavor." As you...
  13. If celiac in indeed your, problem, it's hard to say exactly when you'll start feeling better. I was very sick and it took about three weeks before I could take even a short trip out by myself. It was 10 weeks before I could go back to my desk job and about 10 months before I was completely "normal" again. However, you should notice some type of improvement...
  14. The general advice for someone who have been gluten-free for a while is the equivalent of two to four slices of bread per day for three months. You've been gluten-free for just three weeks so you shouldn't have to eat it for three months. Whether eating for the next three weeks is enough just depends on the person. If you feel you need the "gold standard...
  15. gluten-free specilaty foods are going to cost a lot more no matter where you buy them. But I don't struggle with my grocery bill because I decided a long time ago I wasn't going to spend time trying to replace most of the things I couldn't have. When I want a "sandwich" I use corn tortillas (also use them for mini pizzas). I do buy gluten-free pasta but I...
  16. I agree that if the distilled vinegar is the only "problem," I would eat it. Of course, the original poster's problem could just be cross contamination. This is a chance we take any time we eat out. richard
  17. Read the last line. It says MAY be able to treat... This is still along way from being a definite treatment (and it's definitely NOT a cure of any kind -- with a cure you simply no longer have the disease or condition). richard
  18. Nope, looks like you blew it on the salsa. Below is the Chili's gluten-free list as of this past June. As you can see, it clearly says don't eat the salsa. Bacon Burger with no bun, no dill pickles, no mayo =20 Baked Potato Soup Chili's Filet Steak - no garlic toast =20 Chips - No Salsa Chocolate Shake Citrus Fire Chicken and Shrimp Flamed...
  19. I think the main vitamin concern is that vitamin E can be made with wheat germ or something like that. richard
  20. All of the fast food places where I've eaten have said their pickles are OK (Chili's does say not to eat theirs). I think this is an old paranoia about distilled vinegar. But we now know that distilled vinegar is OK. This is not to ay that ALL pickles are automatically OK. You still need to check. richard
  21. Not sure where the vitamin thing came from but a fair number of multivitamins are gluten-free. Apparently SOME vtiamin E can have a wheat carrier or somehting. One A Day is gluten-free. You definitely need to be taking vitamins. You probably want to add in a B12 or B complex. richard
  22. Mostly English, some Cajun, and a tiny bit of American Indian from many generations ago. richard
  23. I do not expect the pharmacist to know, particularly in an OTC medicine. When getting prescription, I do hope the pharmacist will show me ingredients and provide an 800 number for the manufacturer. But it's my job to find out. richard
  24. Bob's, Spangler, Jolly Rancher, Jelly Belly. I'm not saying every brand of candy cane is gluten-free -- you still need to check -- but I can't remember finding one that isn't. richard
  25. "It turns out that my physician has celiac and his wife is the nutritionists. I am hopeful that they will provide some imput." You should definitely have better luck than most. My physician also has celiac. richard
