  1. Fast food, no matter where you go, is probably aout the riskiest eating you can do. Stuff is all over the place. Contamination is just a major problem. Plus the food is just packed with fat, calories, sodium, and bizarre things you've never heard of. Reading the ingredients in a simple piece of chicken can make you queasy. It's best to avoid it as much as...
  2. Celestial Seasonings also clearly lists any gluten. It will not be hidden in something like "natural flavors." richard
  3. Usually. richard
  4. Actually, BK fries ARE cooked in dedicated fryers (although I always ask to make sure). It even says so if you go to the BK web site. The allergen chart notes if a product is cooked in the same oil with a known allergen. The fries are not. Open Original Shared Link The burgers with no bun are gluten-free. So are the condiments. Wendy burgers with...
  5. I had elevated ttg but I've seen any number of people on various forums who were diagnosed without that. I've seen some who had nothing but an elevated Igg (the least indicative of celiac) but whose problems all resolved completely by doing nothing more than cutting out gluten. It certainly sounds like gluten was causing problems before. Now that your...
  6. At last check Tums was using the standard CYA -- the manufacturer does not put gluten in but they won't guarantee what comes from their suppliers. In other words, Tums should be gluten-free but don't sue us if a supplier gives us something contaminated. richard
  7. You do have to check them out but virtually all mustards are gluten-free. I've heard of only a couple that aren't. richard
  8. Virtually any high-end restaurant can accommodate you easily. I really like Commander's Palace (Garden District) and Bella Luna (French Quarter). I know some who have gone to Delmonico (owned by Emeril). The Acme Oyster House supposedly cooks its seafood in a corn batter only. Jambalaya should be naturally gluten-free. Some gumbos are thickened with file...
  9. Open Original Shared Link At the above web site you'll find a PDF file with lots of info and a two-week "survival" menu, basically all kinds of ideas for each meal. richard
  10. Did you show your doctor what the NIH said about this -- that if you have proven DH, celiac tests are not necessary? This is the NIH saying this!!!! Here's a line from the report. "Biopsies of the proximal small bowel are indicated in individuals with a positive celiac disease antibody test, except those with biopsy-proven dermatitis herpetiformis." ...
  11. On a trip this weekend we were desperate and stopped at a McDonald's. Contaimination or no contamination what a disappointment that hamburger was (I never did like McD hamburgers even when I could eat the bun). Hardee's and BK are SOOO much better. We will not be returning to McD. richard
  12. Burdee, I just remembered reading a critique one time. It pointed out that the book or diet had no scientific underpinnings at all. But of course there are plenty of positive testimonials out there because, if he says your blood type isn't right for wheat, then a certain percentage of people who quit eating wheat are in fact going to feel better because...
  13. This is the first complaint I've heard about it. Everybody else I know who uses it has been fine. I'm not saying his couldn't have been contaminated (or it could have been something else), but one incident doesn't support the statement that its "usually contaminated." richard
  14. I cannot remember the specific percentage but it's at least 10 percent -- more, I think. All top experts say that all first-degree relatives should be tested, even in the absence of symptoms. I know of children who had no symptoms but came back highly positive. My parents, siblings and children all got tested. My 70-year-old father was positive on all...
  15. glix, Has the friend been contaminated by Kraft M&C sauce and did she just hear that somewhere? I ask because I know numerous sensitive people with celiac who use it with no problems. I don't use it but only because I'd rather have the real thing with real extra sharp cheddar. richard
  16. Angie, It does NOT mean it's gluten-free. Even Taco Bell says it's not gluten-free. Did you not believe them? richard
  17. Rachealeona, If this is still a raw uncooked tukey and it doesn't say wheat, rye or barley, it should be. Maltodextrin in the U.S. is gluten-free. HOWEVER, I also believe that simplest is best and leaves less chance of cross contamination. I'd buy a plain turkey and spice it up myself. richard
  18. momof3, I apologize if I came across wrong. I am not trying to "strike" at the postings. You'll notice that I also listed 10 specific brands that were gluten-free at least as of last year. That's what debmidge asked for orginally, isn't it? I don't know about this year because all I do is read the ingredients when I'm at the store. I haven't bought...
  19. IMO, it's a lot of bunk. cheers richard, roanoke, va.
  20. celiac3270, I've heard others say you can acutally buy a shaker can of it at the store, but at some storers it's in an odd place. Maybe the popcorn section? richard
  21. Molly, poached eggs are usually done in pots of water, not in frying pans. That's why he said he saw little chance for contamination. richard
  22. You can get the cheese mixture alone. Not sure where in the store. richard
  23. Both should be fine. richard
  24. If you still want your Blizzards just have them wash the mixer. I've never had a problem getting them to do this. richard
  25. Heinz 57 is not on Heinz's gluten-free list at its web site -- or it wasn't last time I looked. richard
