ARCHIVED Just Got Enterolab Results In, Confused!
celiacgirls replied to mindypal's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would try it for a while and see if you notice a difference. I got a 10 on my casein test from Enterolab and I think I notice a difference. My daughter got a 9 for soy and I'm pretty sure she needs to avoid it anyway. We are still trying to avoid both of these for a month at least before re-introducing but keep making mistakes and having a reaction.... -

ARCHIVED Potty Training...
celiacgirls replied to VydorScope's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
What is he wearing? I think those pullups are too comfortable when they are wet. My oldest was getting close to 3 and showing no interest in potty training. What worked for me is to just have her start wearing regular underwear. She quickly saw the need to go use the potty. She only had 1 or 2 accidents. -
ARCHIVED A Couple Of Random Questions...
celiacgirls replied to AshleyE's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I got sick from eating rice that the server patted down with his gloved hand (which probably had held a flour tortilla before). I scooped off the top part, hoping to get rid of all the gluten, but I was still sick the next day. Another time, I got sick after discovering part of a crouton in my salad. I'm sure I didn't eat any of it but there was enough... -
ARCHIVED Dare I Ask - Could Dairy Be A Problem Too?
celiacgirls replied to Deb O (UK)'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm pretty new to this, too. I've been doing it almost 6 months but I will try to help. For me, the tiredness relates to gluten, I think. If I'm being very careful and eating only what I know is safe, I can get by on 6 or 7 hours of sleep. At one point, I was getting take-out at a supposedly safe place and noticed I was needing more sleep and needing... -
ARCHIVED Attitude Adjustment Needed
celiacgirls replied to SAR99's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
We had a miracle in our house. I noticed a change in my very difficult daughter (10 year old) within a few days when she went gluten-free. She was defiant and irritable before starting the diet. We eventually had to remove casein from her diet, too. Now, it seems that when she has any milk (even trace amounts) that behaviour comes back instantly. We... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Results
celiacgirls replied to Corkdarrr's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
In answer to your question about the difference in scores from Enterolab, they will say it doesn't matter. I didn't want to believe it either but my daughter got a 285.5 for gluten and a 20 for casein and I see a huge difference in her mood when she has casein even in trace amounts. The only time she has reacted to gluten that I know of, she ate a whole... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Gluten Intolerance Within Families
celiacgirls replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It seems higher than 10% to me. I think I read on Enterolab's site that 80% of the relatives will test positive after one does. In my family, my 2 children and I are all gluten intolerant per Enterolab. My husband only did the gene test and he has 1 celiac gene and 1 gluten intolerant gene. I have one of each also. I don't know about the kids. My... -
ARCHIVED Trick Or Treating....how To Cope ?
celiacgirls replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is our first gluten-free/CF Halloween. Luckily, a few years ago, I did the "candy witch". She comes at night and replaces the candy with a toy. So this year, I asked the girls what they wanted to do about Halloween thinking it wouldn't be much fun to go around and get a bunch of candy they couldn't eat. They didn't see a problem at all since the... -
ARCHIVED How Careful Do You Really Need To Be ?
celiacgirls replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I avoid shampoo and hair products with gluten because it makes me itchy to use them. I don't know if this is a secondary allergy or if it is still gluten intolerance. I always had an itchy head until I discovered my gluten problem and avoided it in shampoo. Because of that, I now avoid it in all of our skincare products. I think you should talk to... -
ARCHIVED Gi In Ontario, Canada
celiacgirls replied to sore joints's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
You could try asking Enterolab if there is a doctor in the area who uses them. That is how I found my GI here. -
ARCHIVED So Confused
celiacgirls replied to kayrayusa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Like the others said, if you feel better on the diet, you can just do that. If you feel the need for confirmation, do the Enterolab test. You can do just the gluten intolerance test for $99 + 20 SH, I think. That is how we started out but have since done a lot of testing with them. I needed the confirmation for my daughter in order to stay strict. -
ARCHIVED Pudding Mix
celiacgirls replied to momandgirls's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Jello pudding is made by Kraft and Kraft will list gluten ingredients clearly. I know the instant vanilla and chocolate are ok. Probably there are others, too. -
ARCHIVED Need Advice On Replacements For Food For Daughter
celiacgirls replied to chewymom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My kids like the Glutino crackers and the Schar crackers. They are expensive and I have to order them online but they look and taste like a regular saltine. I recently made Pamela's Amazing Wheat and Gluten Free Bread mix into rolls. The recipe is on the bag. I buy that mix at Whole Foods and maybe at the regular grocery store. The Gluten Free Pantry... -
ARCHIVED Greatest News Ever!
celiacgirls replied to mommyetb's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I wanted to tell you my story about my youngest daughter. From the very first time I gave her wheat, I suspected a problem with it. When I mentioned it to the doctor, she mentioned celiac disease and said she would need to be tested by a GI. My grandmother had celiac disease so I was very concerned my daughter would have it. I took her to be tested when... -
ARCHIVED Daughter Has Acetone Breath
celiacgirls replied to celiacgirls's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks. I'm glad to know there are other causes. I think I will get some of those test strips so I can test her when it happens. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Facial Cleansers?
celiacgirls replied to clbevilacqua's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I e-mailed them to ask about their facial cleanser, Vit A Plus eye creme, Vit A Plus night recovery, Moisture Defense antioxidant serum, facial lotion, and Moisture Defense antioxidant eye creme. Here is their response: "The materials provided to me would indicate that the products you have mentioned to me are gluten free. If you would like a list of... -
ARCHIVED Anything You Can Order Where You Don't Have To Talk To Chef?
celiacgirls replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I just had a recent experience where I ordered something gluten free without going into the details with them. We were on vacation so I was eating out more. We went to Taco Cabana where the rice and beans are gluten-free. As the guy was scooping up my rice, I saw him use his gloved hand (which I'm sure had recently touched a flour tortilla) to pat down... -
This past weekend, my 8 year old daughter was complaining that she was always thirsty. Then on Tuesday, my husband noticed she had acetone breath. She has had it before, last January, and they did the blood sugar test in the pediatrician's office and it was fine. They said her bad breath could be from not brushing her teeth properly. I don't really buy...

ARCHIVED Bath And Body Works
celiacgirls replied to lindalee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't shop there like I used to but I am still using some of their things. Mostly things that I already had that didn't have any suspicious ingredients. I haven't called them but remember reading somewhere that they would list anything. FWIW, I haven't reacted to the moisturizing antibacterial hand soap. My head burns if I use shampoo with wheat in... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Results
celiacgirls replied to prinsessa's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes, it is a shock. I was expecting it for 7 years with my daughter and it was still a shock. My husband has a hard time with it also. He is finally coming around (after 5 months) but still isn't as convinced as me. I haven't told him he can't have gluten in the house but I don't make or serve gluten any more. If he wants it, he is on his own. So... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Take Elavil For Sleep Or Pain?
celiacgirls replied to jenvan's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My 8 year old takes it for migraine prevention. It works for that and it helps her to calm down to go to sleep at night. -
ARCHIVED Have Another ?
celiacgirls replied to ptkds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would try the gluten free diet with her but I wouldn't give up on other possibilities for the dizziness just in case it is related to something else. My daughter's main symptom was mild tummy aches her whole life. She was on and off the gluten-free diet for a while because we didn't have a diagnosis. At one point, she was complaining of being dizzy but... -
ARCHIVED Any Vegetarians?
celiacgirls replied to justme's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My 8 year old daughter is a vegetarian and casein intolerant. The only meat alternatives I have found are the tofu pups and the sunshine burgers. I think there is a black bean gardenburger that is also gluten-free. I wish I could convince her to eat meat. -
ARCHIVED Seattle Sorbets
celiacgirls replied to jukie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Will you post here when you find out, please? I have some in my freezer that I am scared to eat. I have the champagne orange and the chocolate. I noticed when I got home the orange has "natural flavor". I didn't see any way to get in touch with them. The new orange in the store doesn't say natural flavor so I'm thinking it might be ok.
