  1. Always possible. If this were my other daughter, there would be no doubt in my mind that she was cheating. This daughter has told me about some questionable things that she ate. Things that I would never eat because I don't know exactly what is in them but that do seem like they would be ok. It doesn't happen very often but maybe this is enough to...
  2. This doctor also said the casein and soy proteins were so similar that it could come from that. Any thoughts on that? She was getting some soy lecithin by mistake.
  3. But would there be gluten antibodies with no gluten? Unless it is left over. Realistically, I guess, it is impossible to avoid every trace of gluten if you are going to go outside of your own gluten-free house. I will check the soap at school. She does eat lunch at school and last year, I saw one of her friends reach into her cookies while eating...
  4. I don't buy arts and crafts supplies that have gluten but I haven't gone to the school about it. I just tell her to wash her hands after art class and try not to touch her mouth. The items they have in the classroom are the same ones I would use. My kids were eating Frito Lay over the summer but I don't allow them any more because I think her sister...
  5. The exact same thing happened to me with the coffee. I used to love my coffee in the morning and shortly after going gluten-free, even the thought of it disgusts me. It is the one thing I miss from the old days and it is even something I could actually have. Very strange.
  6. I called them just recently about Aunt Jemima syrup because this issue came up on our local list serve. They told me the ingredient they are concerned about is the high fructose corn syrup. They can't guarantee that the corn wasn't processed in the same place as a gluten grain. That is too far removed for me to make my daughter give up her favorite syrup...
  7. My daughter had a variety of blood tests done by an Environmental Physician. Apparently, he routinely looks for gluten intolerance. Her antigliadin Abs, IgA was 2 (positive > 4) and her IgG was 14 (positive > 9) She has been eating gluten free for 18 months. Does the positive IgG mean she is getting some gluten some where? I am very careful...
  8. We use DariFree powdered milk instead of regular powdered milk in a recipe for hot chocolate mix. My kids love it. Kraft Jet Puffed marshmallows are gluten-free/CF/SF.
  9. I do not eat things that say they are manufactured in a place with wheat. I have noticed that my daughters and I react to those often enough that it isn't worth the risk.
  10. I think gluten was affecting my serotonin levels. I was taking an a/d and feeling better than I had ever felt in my whole life when I started the gluten-free diet. Within 2 days, I could tell the gluten-free diet was making me feel even better with mood/anxiety issues. But I also felt giddy and knew I needed to decrease my a/d. I think I had too much...
  11. We do not eat anything with that warning on it. We have reacted too many times to risk it.
  12. I never had stomach issues with gluten until I tried to go gluten-free. That first summer I had more GI problems than ever, probably due to cc. My symptoms are depression, fatigue, and irritability. I almost never eat out because it seems like at least half the time that I do, I notice that those come back and last for several weeks. It just isn't worth...
  13. I have found that if it has a statement about cc that we react to it. I've recently read that that statement means there is a real possibility of cc. We use Pacific almond milk or sometimes rice milk.
  14. You might want to see what is happening at school to make sure there isn't some gluten exposure there. I had lunch with my 9 year old daughter last year and discovered her friends were handling her food while they were eating pizza. I'm not sure if that would be enough gluten to show up on a blood test, but it is enough for her to have symptoms. Then there...
  15. The only Cape Cod chips without a risk of gluten cc are the russet brown ones. The rest are made in the same room as some with gluten and there is gluten "flying around the room" according to the phone rep when I called.
  16. I just looked at our tub of Fleischman's Light and you are right, it now says contains soy at the bottom of the ingredients. We have been relying on that for "butter" for a year, now. Another example of needing to read labels every time!
  17. I didn't even think I had symptoms but tried the diet since my girls were going to be on it and Enterolab said I was gluten intolerant. Within 2 days, I felt so much better that I have always felt knowing I was gluten intolerant was a good thing. My children are also have much better moods and behaviour. To me, it has always been a good thing to know....
  18. I only feel totally symptom free if I stay out of restaurants. I only eat at gluten-free friendly restaurants but even then, probably half the time, I notice that my brain fog and irritability are back for more than 2 weeks. It also feels worse to me now than it did before I went gluten-free. I'm not sure if it really is worse or if I'm just used to...
  19. We just got back from our Disney Land/Sea vacation. After reading all the good things about Disney World, I very bravely (and possibly foolishly) relied on them for all of our meals. They did a wonderful job. I don't think there were any mistakes made and I am very sensitive to gluten. My 2 daughters and I also avoid soy and casein. When we got...
  20. I use Brianna's salad dressings. According to their website, they are available at major grocery stores nationwide. You can also order them online at www.BriannasSaladDressings.com.
  21. I've been gluten-free for over a year now. I got my gluten intolerant dx from Enterolab only after my daughter who did have GI issues was dx'ed by them. My symptoms that cleared up after going gluten-free were anxiety, irritability, depression, and fatigue. Now I can tell (I think) if I've been glutened by those symptoms returning. Sometimes I can tell...
  22. I have made the Kraft vanilla and chocolate pudding with coconut milk and Vance's DariFree. I made the cooked kind and followed the recipe substituting a can of coconut milk and Vance's for the remaining amount. The chocolate turned out especially well. They were the right consistency and everything. For whip cream, I found some non-dairy whipping ...
  23. I called Wella recently and was told that their products are gluten free. However, they can't guarantee there is no cc because they are bottled at a place that bottles other products that may contain gluten. I have noticed 2 out of maybe 12 times that my head is itchy for a few days after having my hair colored. I'm guessing there was some cc in those...
  24. How sure are you that you are totally gluten free? For me, as long as I avoid all traces of gluten, I feel fine. If I take a risk with cross contamination, usually in a restaurant, I feel anxious, irritable, and tired again. It lasts for more than 2 weeks for me. I did not suffer from withdrawal. I felt better within 2 days. I was taking an a/d at...
  25. I would get the gluten sensitivity test. I got that one first and it was positive. Later, I ordered the tTg test (from the same sample) and it was negative. I am definitely gluten intolerant but didn't have the tTg reaction yet.
