  1. I realize that there are numerous topics on this issue, but my question doesn't necessarily pertain to the connection between Celiac and Diabetes. It's more a question of the genetic link between generations and diabetes. My mother and father are both type 2 diabetics. Both my maternal and paternal grandfathers on both sides are/were type 1 diabetics...
  2. Just for the sake of conversation and what "they" always say.... I've been pregnant three times, and I've NEVER had a linea nigra.
  3. I've never seen anyone get a "0" on any of the parts of the celiac panel. Even those who are decidedly and unequivocally negative. But, I do agree that if he has the celiac gene, testing further on down the road will be recommended. My daughter was the same age when she had her testing done - and the results were much more "inconclusive" as all the numbers...
  4. How cool!! Let's keep each other, and our classes in thoughts and prayers! I assisted in the class last year, I could not "teach" because my son was in the class. But, I was asked to take over this year. I'm not certain yet whether or not I'll stay in 2nd or move up to third with the class I have now. I love those kids. =) I've been teaching SOR for 5...
  5. Then... what's the point?? I've never heard of a Priest who would allow that type of substitution. It seems one who does is totally missing the mark. Anyhow, in our church - we have, on a normal Sunday, 4 chalices. The host is added only to the main chalice held by the Priest. So, for me - it's a non-issue. I have to add, yesterday I took...
  6. I just had to make the correction, there are no Catholic churches that would allow a rice host. The only permissible substitution is the low-gluten host. For other denominations, as already mentioned, this is perfectly acceptable. Receiving from the chalice alone is permitted. And, making sure you are one of, if not THE first to receive from it, is a...
  7. Yes, I have. I was dx with SAD a number of years ago. I grew up in an area that had very little sunshine in the winter months, and not an awful lot during the remainder of the year. I did light therapy for a couple years, but I had since moved to an area where the weather is much more suited to my tastes, lots more sun - winters are very mild, and...
  8. I can't go into anywhere near as much detail as you have. But, due to a variety of reasons, I had testing done 2 weeks apart. The first set of tests was done pre-gluten free. My IgG levels were 69. (all other levels on the high side of normal range) After 2 weeks of being gluten free, they'd dropped down into the 40's. (all other levels were in...
  9. That was neat!! Here's mine: Mood~ Easy Rider Fun~ Escape Artist Habits~ Junkie Monkey Love~ Home Soul They were pretty accurate for me!
  10. You don't have to live without pasta!! There are plenty delicious pastas that are made with rice and/or corn. Tinkyada specifically comes to mind - my children can't tell the difference between that and regular old wheat pasta. =)
  11. I am seriously having a hard time watching this season. I just don't like *anyone.* Ugh!
  12. You'll get a lot of mixed answers to this question. Which IgA/IgG's were positive? If they were the antigliadin antibodies - many will say that they are useless. However, since they are used to monitor compliance with the gluten-free diet, knowing the levels prior to going gluten-free is quite important. Was it recommended that you have endoscopy with...
  13. I agree. It's really hard to answer, as a parent, also! It's almost like you KNOW that if you answer a certain way, it stacks the odds against your child. But, that's why it's important that we only use things like that as screening devices and not for diagnostic measures. FWIW - I have a lot of sensory issues myself. And, I most definitely prefer to...
  14. Hi Autumn, My first thought is... if the doctors are giving her a hard time, have her find another doctor. Honestly, even though vaccines are requirements in most states, delaying them IS the parents prerogative, regardless of what the recommendations are. My 2 younger children are on a selective and delayed schedule. Our pediatrician provides us with...
  15. I've seen Hemp Milk at both Whole Foods and Wild Oats stores.
  16. My little girl went from the 95th percentile down to below the 1st - she literally "fell off" the growth charts. I'm still amazed that no one bothered to suggest we have her tested sooner than they did. It wasn't until months of debilitating stomach pain that we were finally sent for testing. Of course, my disclaimer is that I was clueless about Celiac...
  17. My blood tests were inconclusive as well. But, I did go ahead with my endoscopy and I was very glad I did. Much like the previous poster - they found a hiatal hernia as well as damage to my esophagus due to GERD. I've been a "silent refluxer" and never had heartburn or anything, just an odd and constant necessity to clear my throat. Once we found out about...
  18. I've purchased Vance's Dari-Free at local grocery stores. =) It has a nice sweet taste to it. I just made a B
  19. There were actually a lot of "data collecting" questions, but the one regarding the small mouth was on the actual "diagnostic" quiz. Did you happen to look at it? Some of the questions just seemed seriously ridiculous. I may be WAY off the mark here, but this one just looked absolutely nothing even remotely like the ones I've seen that have been posted by...
  20. Rice Dream - as far as I'm concerned, is not gluten free. I won't allow my kids to drink it. We use Pacific Brand Rice Milk or Westsoy Rice milk.
  21. Congratulations!!!! My a lifetime of happiness be yours....
  22. Thank you Fiddle Faddle. I'm going to go check out those links right now. To tell you the truth, I really am still skeptical, which probably doesn't help my son any. I feel terrible admitting it, but I just don't "get it" - probably the same way he doesn't "get" most everything else. I want to believe that he's not just making this. I want to believe he's...
  23. Hi Barb, I'm glad you posted. Somehow... it makes me feel much better to just "let it all out" to friendly strangers. =) Our school district does not do ABC grades until the 2nd half of 3rd grade. I really like that. However, now that my guy is in the 2nd half of third grade, this next report card will BE an A,B,C card. That will be interesting for...
  24. Little kids of all shapes, sizes, and abilities are highly attracted to my husband. Kids like me, alright... but not the same way they like him. We are the family that will someday have kiddos knocking at our door asking J, B, & I if their dad can come out to play. LOL!
  25. I understand my son's fear, because after I typed my post last night, I was terribly afraid to come back here for fear that you all would say the same thing... "get that kid to another doctor, asap." I'm quite glad to see that isn't the case. I feel terrible for doubting what he says, it's just really hard to grasp. This morning after Sunday school...
