  1. Sounds to me like the nurse practitioner diagnosed you.
  2. I recommend putting "blinkers" on your glasses so that when you look in the mirror you only see the center part. If that doesn't work for you, I have about three trees worth of wood that needs splitting.
  3. You're already getting good advice. Just wanted to say SOOOO Jealous!!
  4. I also find that what I eat it with changes my initial reaction. If I get some gluten in a dish with a lot of oil I just get the headache reaction. If it's with no or little fat I get bloating. It makes sense that having eating yours with fat you would delay the reaction since you probably delayed the absorption.
  5. Love this show!! But I usually fall asleep before it ends and I have to watch it on Friday. So NOBODY start a post tomorrow that has a title of MEREDITH LIVES or anything like that.
  6. Nothing better to add. Only don't make any big decisions until you are completely gluten free and your brain works again. Now that you know that her view of eating gluten free and your view of it are different, don't eat her food. Ever. Try not to feel negative towards your mom. Maybe she believes the 200ppm thing and eating that much gluten has...
  7. Hhhmmm, what makes this better? Dinner out every weekend for a month? Spa day with the girls...nails, facials, everything? Luxury weekend for two somewhere away from the kids? Nah, that's like rewarding him. He takes the kids for a weekend and you get the house to yourself? Housekeeper for a year!!
  8. It's all just a plot. We only view- not answer.. Seriously, though- Do you mean the total IgA? I don't have an answer, but someone who does might need the clarification.
  9. I really will be alright. Feeling bad sucks, and it seems to make everything that much harder. It is overwhelming, but truly, it does get easier. I know that what you want is to just KNOW so you can stop wondering and start doing something, but hang in there for now. If you are willing to keep eating gluten until the testing is finished then do keep...
  10. I'll hold your hand. Take some deep breaths and calm down. Now, repeat after me: I am in control of my health. Ok, now that you're a little calmer. Crohn's is a real diagnosis. If that's the definitive diagnosis, then you do have it. But you could also have Celiac. You have a sibling with Celiac. This increases your chances of having the disease...
  11. Listen up DingoBabe! Maybe that's what Stinker has been looking for in that sod!
  12. Salmon cakes. Small can of salmon 1 egg mix well. Add potato flakes until you can form these into patties. put on piece of aluminum foil on baking sheet. Put the patties close together and turn up the edges of the foil. Drizzle with olive oil and maybe sprinkle with salt if your salmon has none. Bake at 375 for about 20 minutes. I like to...

    ARCHIVED House

Not House related, but doctor related. Carla, you and Rachel and the others on the OMG thread have just made a small difference in my corner of the world. One of the MDs here works with cystic fibrosis patients and he's studying the bacteria that colonize these peoples' lungs. These bacteria have different lipid structure when they live in CF people...
  14. I would launch into a long diatribe about the HLA markers being indicators for one subset of symptoms of "gluten poisoning" followed by a lecture on the decline of the "one-gene:one-protein" theory and the complex interactions of differing genotypes and the ability of one polymorphism to "rescue" an animal from the detrimental effects of a different polymorphism...

    ARCHIVED House

Yeah! How dumb is that?? You have to be your own personal medical specialist in order to know which specialist to go to!

    ARCHIVED House

I hate to say it, but brilliant and MD rarely go together. Not that they aren't very smart, but they are trained to fit the person to a diagnosis, not diagnose the person.

    ARCHIVED House

Maybe that's why I don't like him. I'm already too jaded and have given up on the idea of a doc in shining armor riding in on a gurney to make me well! and thanks
  18. Wow, lots of questions. First: It very well could be Celiac, or some other food allergy. Second: If it is related to food, when you stop eating what you're reacting to, hopefully your tummy bloat will go away. Third: True, could cause false negatives. On the other hand, if you determine that gluten makes you feel bad, you can choose to follow the...

    ARCHIVED House

Yeah, but it's always HIM. How about some brilliance out of some other people once in a while?
  20. On the up side, maybe at some point you won't (be able to) care anymore about damaging anything!
  21. That's the option I needed!

    ARCHIVED House

I watch it sometimes. I think it's so far from reality that I sometimes find it annoying (the whole only one brilliant person in the whole hospital can figure out what's wrong with these people thing), but it's kind of fun to see the medical situations.
  23. OK, no advice. HUGE HUGS!!!!! Hang in there
  24. Are you sure you aren't just asking for this position because you're already used to wading through s**t?
