  1. I'm tellin' ya, get the glasses.... And yes, I am a scientist. The lab I'm in studies the contribution of genetic polymorphisms to inflammatory responses. It's very cool.
  2. I love that joke!!
  3. I'm pretty hard core nerd at work, but for Hallowe'en last year I dressed up as a neo punk girl with pink hair and fishnet stockings and a black spiderweb on my face. It was so unexpectedly out of character that everyone practically peed their pants laughing. Now I'm back to the hard core nerd who laughs for days at dumb science jokes like: RNA - the...
  4. Then limit your variables. Eat no dairy for a week, then eat 1/2 a pancake. If you have the weird heartbeat, maybe there's a link. Eat ice cream for dinner, see if you get the heart thing. Eat them both, see if you get the heart thing, etc.
  5. That thing where they poke your finger and put a drop of blood into the blue liquid is testing the density of your blood. If you have iron levels lower than they'll accept your blood floats.
  6. Or maybe you could get a dog if you don't want to go through all that trouble of, ya know, pregnancy, and that whole "responsible for another human being" thing.
  7. Yes, bland, with a tiny bit of bitterness.
  8. Good for you! Throw some more shoes. Maybe next time they'll include something for you.
  9. As a scientist I'd like to mention that you are the better scientists I've "met". I'm sorry you weren't nerdly enough in appearance to actually adopt science as a profession, but I'm sure we could let you into the club if you promise to get some big thick glasses and sturdy, sensible shoes.
  10. My whole body hurts. Some days more than others. I decided it was probably in part due to being generally inflamed from the gluten. For a while I was taking one or two ibuprofen every night before going to bed. My theory was that at least for a while I would have less inflammation while my body was at its peak healing time. It did make a difference...
  11. Hi Sonja I only check in on you occasionally but I agree with Nora. Start with just rice and maybe one vegetable that you are sure causes you no problems. Eat only that for a week and see if you feel any different. If you feel better quickly add one simple thing and eat these three things for three days, if you still feel better, add one more thing...
  12. Next time you have a bad day at work, think of poor this man. Robby is a commercial saturation diver for Global Divers in Louisiana. He performs underwater repairs on offshore drilling rigs. Below is an E-mail he sent to his sister. She then sent it to radio station 103.2 FM, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, who was sponsoring a worst job experience contest...
  13. Could this advice have been: Avoid getting a life. Find excuses to be on the computer as much as possible!! ?
  14. It seems pretty likely. More likely than bone cancer anyway. If you aren't absorbing nutrients properly, you aren't remodeling your bones properly.
  15. I'd be less worried about the gluten and more worried about the residual soap stuck in the wood. (I try to limit my exposure to chemicals.)
  16. Quinoa? It's OK. Millet, however, is yucky

    ARCHIVED Doctor In Phoenix

Hi Kacie, I've never been diagnosed by a doctor. When I realized that I wouldn't be eating gluten anymore I sent my doctor a letter and some articles about Celiac. I haven't seen her since that time and other MDs I see I just tell them I'm not eating gluten. Period.
  18. Welcome lbat! Give yourself some time to heal. It could take months for you to feel like everything's starting to be absorbed normally.
  19. A lot of people have the same story. I'm glad you found this site and hopefully you'll get a lot of useful info from the people here. Amazing, isn't it, that one little protein can cause that much havoc.
  20. Or you could just give up and hope that someday she finds bags of buried gold.
  21. Small political input. Pharmaceutical companies don't research non-profitable diseases, but basic scientists at universities do. Unfortunately the current government has cut the NIH budget AGAIN and so in the building where I work these are the programs that are close to, or have shut down in the last 6 months: Geriatric research mycoplasma infections...
  22. Since all doctors have their own opinions, the only way to know that answer is to ask the doctor. Check out other comments on the board, not everyone feels the need for a biopsy.
