  2. You may be mildly dyslexic. One of the symptoms can be difficulty recalling common words (like "fork"). When I'm tired I have a much harder time with words.
  3. I wanted to add that if you're at all sensitive to potatoes, don't eat the ones with green on them. I have no supporting evidence at the moment, but I recall that the green part is toxic, although it is water soluble, so if you boil your potatoes it goes away.
  4. email her. Tell her how fabulous it is that she's started to make the public more aware of Celiac and you can't wait for more.

    ARCHIVED Sandwich 101

I do it less and less. Usually now if I'm going to do that I'll save my sammy for later and clean it up in the lunch room. And it's not a casual approach. Some of the breads are really crumby and I avoid those, and sometimes I think the meat was really dry and no matter which bread it was on it has lots of crumbs. Those I just throw out. I also don't...
  6. And the coconuts. And that whole moose thing during the credits
  7. Thanks, I'll post when I finally have the courage to try this.
  8. How did you do this? The dough is so soft.
  9. But you don't "choose" do be gay. Nor do you "choose" to have Celiac. But you do choose who you have sex with, and you do choose what you eat. There have been many gay men who have chosen to have sex with a female wife in order to fit in. And there are Celiacs who choose to eat gluten in order to fit in. And this thread is getting very...

  12. Just a comment. I was having food issues and just assumed it was dairy, since that's a likely culprit, and sometimes I'd have issues after eating cheese (but not always). I finally determined that it's not dairy, it's garlic! It was hard for me to separate since I frequently ate them together. So sometimes the most obvious solution isn't the solution...
  13. I had nothing cut off or cut open to treat this. I don't need mechanical devices to treat this. I don't need a prescription to treat this. My health is dependent entirely upon me. That's why I see it as a choice. This doesn't mean that I walk into a restaurant and say "Oh, I've chosen not to eat gluten, could you please...." I tell them I can't. Just...
  14. Yer right. I should be slapped with a gluten-free noodle. I request a corn noodle, since those tend to be squishier. But I guess they're stickier too, so maybe they'll substitute for the tassels....
  15. That sounds unpleasant. Did they give you a copy of your lab results?
  16. The gluten free flours don't seem to brown as nicely, but the biscuits are still cooked. Go for taste, not visual.
  17. When I was travelling in egypt the most annoying one was: "Hey, do you know that you walk like an egyptian?" Actually the first time I heard it was the day after I had spent several hours on a camel, so I was walking like something, but I'm guessing it was more along the lines of a primate, not an Egyptian.
  18. Bethrenee, If you find this please pass on a brand name and what it costs. It sounds so much tastier than powdered stuff.

    ARCHIVED Sandwich 101

Well, I go to conferences where sometimes all they have are sandwiches. I carefully pull the bread off and throw it on a napkin, then use a butter knife to scrape any surface that was touching the bread - scrape, wipe knife on clean section of napkin, scrape, wipe knife on clean section of napkin, and so on. I also carefully inspect all sandwich ingredients...
  20. Hang in there Char! She's your baby, not a statistic, and you know what's best for her!
  21. Pour 1-2 Tablespoons of olive oil into a 10 inch frying pan. Turn stove onto HIGH Get bag of hash browns out of freezer Swirl hot oil in pan to cover bottom and turn burner to MED LOW Add a handful of hashbrowns to pan - enough to cover bottom of pan, but just barely Cook 15 minutes - Go take shower Return to stove in whatever state of...
  22. from the BASF site Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) is a white, hygroscopic powder with a weak characteristic odor. In contrast with most polymers, it is readily soluble both in water and in a large number of organic solvents, such as alcohol, amines, acids, chlorinated hydrocarbons, amides, and lactams. On the other hand, the polymer is insoluble in common...
  23. Wow, that's so sad. People should be allowed to live out their lives free of pain.
  24. I know three very intelligent people with the disease, one MD, one scientist, and one high level manager, none of whom feel the need to completely avoid gluten, even though they KNOW the risks. I think that people are people and they will do what they choose, and create their own basis for doing it.
  25. I agree with nancym. Why not grapes or strawberries or even fruit leather?
