  1. You might want to consider limiting the alcohol for the first few months, it is an irritant.
  2. I've never actually tried this, but it seems to me that kool-aid powder brushed onto damp lips would make a long lasting stain. You could get different flavors to get different color shades.
  3. Elye, do you feel different now that you aren't eating gluten?
  4. Just enjoy being high maintenance. I go out when I'm looking forward to being pampered and don't when I'm not in the mood to put up with it.
  5. My sugar. It seems that at least at some point I had dipped a flour contaminated cup into it. BTW, I hope you are using "throw out" symbolically. My neighbor has greatly benefited from all of my kitchen cleanings.
  6. I love all those alternative flours. I add them to everything for different flavors. Try tasting them to decide if you'll like that particular flavor in whatever your making just then. Start by adding (substituting) just a little in the flour mix you're using and see if you like the change in taste/texture.
  7. I decided that whatever was wrong with my body would heal on its own and I prefer to wait it out rather than risk upsetting the balance by adding supplements or herbs or even probiotics. The only things I do take are vitamins and glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM (thanks Carla!) 2 or 3 times a week. Even these I'm cautious with. I think the human body is amazing...
  8. Well duh. They do "ruin" your life, if what you want from life is to be selfish, spoiled, and self centered (which I am, and quite happy about it). I couldn't imagine giving up the freedom to do whatever I want whenever I want. I think I agree with Karen, she's envious that you are making a carefully considered decision, whereas she was just thrown into...
  9. Can't help you with the first part, but as for the stuffy nose, I know people who's most obvious symptom of glutening is congestion.
  10. I can tell which lever in my car opens the gas cap and which one opens the trunk without having to stare at the little pictures for a long time and try to figure it out.
  11. I eat these types of products. If I'm not sure how "clean" something is, I'll only eat a little until I trust the package. After several packages I tend to trust the manufacturer and eat as much as I want. If you really sensitive (I am), you can figure out pretty quickly what you can comfortably eat and you want to avoid.
  12. Try icing it. I'm also a fan of ibuprofen, but I realize some people prefer less chemical approaches.
  13. I get a flu shot almost every year, and prior to doing that I have gotten the flu. Not some virus that's going around, but the can't breath-continuous fever-takes weeks to recover-flu. It is unbelievably horrible with hallucinations and the clear knowledge that you are going to die if you don't force yourself to take one more breath. I suspect that...
  14. Support and strength Patti.
  15. The only time I've craved meat was when I was anemic. But after going gluten-free it did seem less nasty. I doubt I'll ever like red meat, but I do eat it occasionally. I would agree with Momma Goose. If you aren't willing to start eating meat, get all your vitamin levels checked along with your hematocrit. Maybe you're missing something.
  16. Hang there Jerry. Feeling well feels pretty good. That whole coming back to life thing may help you not want to cheat.
  17. No brain fog, no headaches, no depression - all within the first day.
  18. Maybe not. After all, if some people can suddenly become depressed, doesn't it stand to reason that some people can become suddenly not depressed? (I don't mean "suddenly" as in, one day wake up different, I mean as we age and the overall chemistry in our bodies changes.)
  19. Thanks Amber! I'll be going to Italy this summer and was kinda wondering how I was going to approach it.
  20. Hi Laura, when I went gluten-free, I suddenly had much more severe allergic reactions to things that had been barely noticeable before. Fortunately I didn't end up in the emergency room, but after I discovered this I was much more cautious about eating something I hadn't eaten in a while. It may be that you are allergic to something in the mix. The only...
  21. I ate one small piece of a flourless torte made by a friend who didn't specifically re-wash all of her utensils and bowls prior to making the torte and I could tell I was CC'd, although the reaction didn't last for very long.
  22. Exercise might help. Or coffee. Or getting really scared (adrenaline rush). Vitamin C is a laxative if you take a lot (be careful, the reaction is delayed). I'm confused. If you don't go for a couple weeks, how could it not be hard?
  23. I have no kids and I've always thought that Moms are amazing. Now, reading about Moms with kids that have issues, I'm even more amazed. Whine away. I suspect that everyone with kids will understand, and everyone without kids is too dazzled by your strength and patience to even realize it's a whine. We just think it's another one of those tools that...
  24. When this first came up I spent some time looking it up. I can't find the source anymore, but I do remember reading that the original "flush protocol" was taking a teaspoon of olive oil every day for several weeks. It sounded much more sensible and much less harsh.
