  1. Equal parts dates and raw walnuts. Process together until you have tiny pieces, but not mush. Press into pan, or make into balls. Keep in frig if you make a lot.
  2. Have you tried calling the credit card companies to see if they will decrease or eliminate your interest? Some will just to keep you from defaulting on all the payments. Short term room mate? Any bills you can eliminate? Cable? Magazines? Cell phone? Internet? (OK, maybe you need that one for sanities sake.) Call your bank, see if they can offer...
  3. OK, What on earth could they possibly do to coffee that would leave a trace of gluten????
  4. Well HELLO! She's up! Why aren't you??? This reminds me of a story. One of my brothers was visiting one of my other brothers. The local brother had a cat that kept the visiting brother and his wife awake all night long. So all the next day, whenever the cat tried to sleep, the visiting brother woke her up. At the end of the day everyone was tired...
  5. I find that even the worst pancakes taste pretty good with peanut butter and chocolate chips on them
  6. In the US I believe you can deduct the added cost of your gluten-free food from your taxes, but as a "medical expense". This means you must spend more than 7.5% of your income on medical expenses before you can start to deduct it. Pretty hard to do, unless you already have an expensive medical condition.
  7. Wow! that's really impressive. I know several people with non-incapacitating symptoms and they cheat all the times.
  8. I was just curious because I remember that your daughter was also investigating gluten as a possible issue. I think all these auto-immune responses are just fascinating. It would be interesting to catalog all the different responses that are possible with all the different auto-immune illnesses and see which things are basically common to all of them...
  9. How can you tell that it's a symptom of Lyme, and not in addition to Lyme?
  10. I don't think there is any way to know for sure how healed your son's villi are, except by looking. He might just have trouble with cane sugar. Try making him something sweetened with maple syrup or beet sugar.
  11. Hi Jamrock, not sure what your ancestry is, but here is a study done in the US on "African-Americans" (which could be from anywhere) showing that Celiac does exist in the black population. Keep in mind that many of these people may have European genes as well, so not a perfect study. Dig Dis Sci. 2006 May;51(5):1012-5. Epub 2006 Apr 27. Celiac...
  12. I drink all kinds of coffee (except maybe Folgers, Hills, etc) and have never had a problem with any of them.
  13. Here is nini's website: Open Original Shared Link
  14. I like the glutino texture and taste
  15. If you're going to be gluten free anyway, does the biopsy really matter? What would change if you did it?
  16. 1. Go stand on a hill and scream. 2. Assign your kids the task of making dinner. (OK, it might not be what you want, but at least it'll be different.) 3. Tell yourself that it's OK to distance yourself from the relationship with your relative. (I hate to say "sever", because she may get through whatever's going on and want to re-establish. I'd say...
  17. Can't help ya with regard to the Celiacs testing positive for a wheat allergy, because I do have both, with different response. But as far as the egg allergy goes, you need to actually test your son's response to eggs to find out if this is a true allergy, or a false positive. You may find that he has no response at all to eggs, or that egg whites,...
  18. I don't put it into anything that I don't need to rise very much (cookies, pancakes...) because I don't like the taste.
  19. They have nothing to gain by telling you you're positive. They don't sell supplements or diet plans or drugs.
  20. Ok, I see that you are exploring all questions all at once. Don't lose sight of the fact that you are still in charge of your body. You are choosing what is best for you. I know I'll get a lot of daggers thrown at me for saying this, but it's not the end of the world if you go gluten-lite (really lite). I can't imagine willingly eating gluten, but...
  21. Even if the symptoms aren't due to Celiac, many people get some relief of symptoms of RA from avoiding gluten. (Don't know about SS.) You could go strictly gluten-free for 6 months after your biopsy and track all the changes in symptoms. Maybe it would help.
  22. Are you saying that the only way you'd be completely gluten free is if your intestine is being destroyed by gluten?
  23. Marlene, I'm pretty sure everyone goes through this. Sometimes for a few minutes, sometimes for a few days. It's OK to vent here. Everyone understands, everyone supports you. Take care of yourself and trust that eventually you'll figure out everything that's making you sick and you won't have to feel this way anymore. Jeanna
  24. But Electra, you don't need a doctor's diagnosis. The treatment is diet, so what do you care if your doctor proves to himself that you're sick. It doesn't change anything in terms of what he can do to help you.
  25. The only way you'll ever really know is by getting one of these. Is it worth it?
