  1. No person should ever have to "fight off gluten" Several studies have shown that gliadin (the bad protein from gluten) IS transmitted in breastmilk. Also antibodies are transmitted with breastmilk, so sending bad antibodies that could potentially attack your baby's intestine isn't such a good idea. Healthy mom's make healthy babies - don't eat...
  2. I just wanted to say that I am probably the worst neighbor ever. I love all kinds of Christmas music and I listen to it ALL YEAR LONG.....
  3. Brilliant minds....
  4. I found an interesting site: Open Original Shared Link
  5. I didn't get this part either. You can make sourdough starter with potato flakes, water and yeast - but I didn't have any luck getting anything else to ferment and make sourdough bread.
  6. Not positive on the last question, but I think they're the same. I stopped using soy flour because I can always taste it and I don't like it. Just make sure you use some other protein flour in place of the soy (substitute bean flour for the soy for example).
  7. Massage has helped me. Also, my physical therapist gave me a styrofoam tube to roll on to massage and release the IT band. Probably a softball or that sort of think would work as well. For my piriformis I sit and rock on a golf ball.
  8. My worst/best Christmas was when my dad was in the hospital, just having undergone surgery for prostate cancer that they had discovered just before Thanksgiving. All of us came to the hospital (7 kids, assorted spouses) and brought decorations, lights and stuff for his hospital room. His doc saw how we all interacted and decided that he would be better taken...
  9. I would feel pretty bad. Does she know about your food restrictions? Maybe she just thinks your being an obnoxious dieter. Just call the place yourself and add a salad to the order. Tell the doctor throwing the party that your doing it, not his assistant. Even if you had to pay for it yourself, you'd still have a great salad and could be part of...
  10. Potato skins with hummus or baba ganoush on them? Sweet potato/yam skins with same? Mushrooms stuffed with anything you want? I found something called a "yam cake" in the asian section of the supermarket that I'm going to try as a substitute for cream cheese. Figs and dates are really sweet and it might be incredibly decadent to candy them. Candied...
  11. I think my potato starch box has a recipe for angel food cake using only potato starch. If this is true, it should be possible to make variations on angel food cake using fruits or jellies or instant pudding which can be made entirely of chemicals.... You might try making a vanilla fudge using coconut milk. Candies are made by boiling sugar and water...
  12. The three ingredient peanutbutter cookies: 1c peanut butter, 1c sugar, 1 egg. Also try other simple cookie recipes. Substitute coconut or shortening for the butter, and try making up a flour mix using potato starch, teff, buckwheat, quinoa flakes ground into flour, whatever you can eat. Start with small batches until you get something that works. You...
  13. Good. I'm glad you thought it through and made a decision based on what was most important. Some people just sort of panic and stop everything.
  14. You really shouldn't just stop taking an antibiotic once you've started it. All you do is make your bacteria resistant to that antibiotic.
  15. Another Christmas related bit of science Open Original Shared Link
  16. The server insisted that the soy sauce was OK because it was soy based, then suggested that I could eat any of the vegetarian options because they didn't have fish (?!). When I was extremely skeptical of the soy sauce, she said well, everything has soy sauce. So I had three tiny pieces of sushi while everyone else had bento boxes. Needless to say, I...
  17. Yea!!! Hike the Ho rainforest. Walk the Dungeness Spit. Kayak from Bainbridge to one of the nearby islands.
  18. Pretty sappy, but I re-gift my baskets, or portions thereof, to the homeless people and street musicians I see on my way to work.
  19. You mean...most people don't????
  20. True for a friend of mine.
  21. Maybe she's realized that she, too, feels bad after eating gluten but doesn't want to accept that it could be real. If she can force you to admit it isn't real, then she's off the hook.
  22. I sat here thinking of obnoxious things to say, but none of them really help. The best I have to offer is: You are not that type of person, the kind that would thoughtlessly hurt someone else. You have that gift to yourself.
  23. Undoubtedly Rachel knows more about this, but in general an IgG response is more specific. It's what you get the second (and all following) times that you are exposed to something.
  24. Translation: We are victims of the narrow-minded approach of modern medicine that limits it's understanding of a disease to what is most obvious.
  25. I only looked for the most recent, since knowledge changes and older ideas can be proved to be so incomplete as to be effectively wrong. If you consider that adults often present with non-gastro symptoms, and that physicians were taught that Celiac is only a childhood disease, most doctors didn't associate the two age extremes with one disease. So yes...
