Mushroom (Neroli) Memorial Thread

Irish kindly told me about this dreadful news when we were in Croatia. Talk about shocking and so very sad. She leaves a void and will dearly be missed by so many who cherished her. She was so helpful and kind and witty; yet she told it straight when necessary. I appreciate that. I bet she touched more lives than she realized.

Words cannot adequately describe how I sympathize with Shroomie's family. Typing this just seems so wrong. I hardly even know what to say. Take comfort with good memories. Hold them close to your hearts.

I was wondering if anyone (mods?) has Neroli's address and would be willing to pm it to me? I'd like to send her husband a card with a short note telling him how she helped me and my family with our health issues and what a difference she made in our lives... even from so far away.

I'd be happy to. Give me a few minutes to get to my address book:)

Did you get it to Nicole?

a few days ago there was a mushroom shoot in my grocery bag tomatoes -- got giggled at by someone whom has mushrooms everywhere this time of year -- but they are rare in my neck of the desert

then yesterday I was watching the movie 'Epic' in 3D with the son -- in one scene the forest magically comes back to life and one of the first images is shrooms popping up that looked very much like Shroomie's Avitar -- jeez her spirit is just as strong as her personality -- miss you Shroom-ster.

Oh my goodness, I just found this thread. How sad and shocking... mushroom was SO very helpful when I first landed here, and well, always, really.

That's a really beautiful poem, IH.

That's a really beautiful poem, IH.

I read it at both my Dad's service and a good friend's memorial service and I should have given the credit to the author.

I first heard it on television and looked it up because I found it to be quite beautiful and apropos for someone who is a" force of nature" like Neroli. :)

It is adapted (rather liberally) from A Parable of Immortality, by Henry Van Dyke..

My husband and I lost a lifelong friend on the same day as Neroli -- yep it was one very tough day for us.  Yesterday we attended a huge memorial celebration for our friend followed by a paddle out at the beach we all grew up on.  Was privately wishing I could have attended my other friend's memorial -- been able to meet her family and friends and let them all know how very much she is missed.

So from my crew to hers...here is the send off we gave our San Diego Friend -- Farewell Neroli :)

That's very beautiful, Lisa. I'm so sorry about your friend.

In an unfortunate coincidence, directly before opening the email from Shroomie's husband informing me of her passing, I learned that a friend of my husband and I had also passed that morning. He had been fighting colon cancer and doing well, so this was for the most part unexpected.

Right back at you Patti -- sorry for your additional loss this past few weeks

Umm.....it's me again....

It's so great to celebrate a life, rather than the loss.  Time will heal and the memories will eventually find a smile.

(is everything spelled correctly, or she will find me :o:rolleyes: )

Exactly right....God has scooped up one of the best.

Through tears I type...Shroomie you will not be forgotten - by me - or by countless people that you graciously advised with accurate along with sensible words...each and every day that you were able to do so.

Often late in the evening we would be the only mods online and would tag team --- I have missed you each time you've been ill...but firmly believed you could beat anything in your path....we joke about super powers...but I was certain you actually possessed them.

Rest in peace my dear friend...I will miss you always..."my Lectin Cuz"

My prayer today is for Neroli's husband, family and friends that they will find peace and that Shroomie has left a bit of her strength and determination behind to help them through the days to come.

It's been a year....has been another tough one for me with this silly health puzzle that keeps me searching for answers.

You remain a strong presence in my thoughts -- pushing me to live strong and help those that are looking for answers that we may have already found.

Miss you, my friend :)

Truly one of a kind:). I came across her name recently in my address book while looking for someone else. Made me smile.

You might also consider a low iodine diet as iodine is know to exacerbate dermatitis herpetiformis. But be careful with that as well as there are health problems that can accrue from iodine deficiency.

Hi, Yes, the rash has gone. I still get the itches but there is nothing to see now, apart from a lot of discoloured areas where the rash was worst. Occasionally I get a single lump come up, a bit like hives, but no bigger than a pea and it goes after 24hrs and a steroid cream application.  And yes, giving the gluten-free diet 110%. Very careful about any cross contamination.  This is my fifth autoimmune condition so well and truly on that bandwagon.

Welcome to the the celiac.com community, @suek54! Is the Dapsone getting the rash under control? Are you practicing a gluten free diet yet? The only known cause for dermatitis herpetiformis is celiac disease.

Hi Im new to this game, so bear with me.  May through to December last year totally miserable, covered literally head to toe in the worst rash ever, itching like I just cant explain. After seven different medics told me just to "keep putting the cream on, whatever it is will go in the end" finally one lovely doc diagnosed dermatitis herpetiformis. Biopsy 6 weeks ago and Dapsone, which I seem to be tolerating OK so far.  The NHS is in permanent backlog so no result yet but just wanted to say hello to anyone else with this maddening condition.

I know gluten free proteins like eggs and yogurt but nuts especially trail mixes are tricky as they are hard to find certified gluten free trail mixes especially w/o added sugars. I agree subscription boxes are hit or miss I think I have found RXBar with simple ingredients no added sugars gluten-free might be a great protein bar.
