For Those Who Feel Like Cheating Or Have Cheated....

I don't have the option. I have celiac. But I have had 3 occasions in the past 2 weeks where it was so tempting to cheat. But I didn't because I want to heal.

Every Thursday morning I attend a women's Bible study and I lead a table there. Every week I am faced with 2 round tables full of food. Everything from doughnuts to muffins and I sit with my bottle of Ensure and a Glutino cereal bar.

This afternoon they had a luncheon for us leaders and ordered pizza. The wonderful ladies I serve with know my condition so they brought salad for me and grilled chicken.

It would be so easy to cheat with all this food in front of me every week, but I stay strong. Although i have come home and threw myself a pity party. Cheating is just not an option if you have celiac! If I can do it with the temptation looking at me every single week, you can do it too!

I cheated three times not long after my dx. That was over two years ago.

It is extremely difficult. Even more so now if someone brings (or bakes) something gluten-y. I get quite the bellyache over it from the smell.

What gets me is the savory stuff. Or the bagels, and especially sourdough bread. I have had hissy fits over sourdough bread.....oh how I miss it

I honestly do not know why you are settling for Ensure and a glutino bar, hon. Blechsters!

I'd feel sorry for myself, too if that was all I had to eat. :D

You are almost being a "food martyr"--and I do not know why. Time to branch out and bake.

Seriously, you have to look at your new life as an opportunity to create new goodies.

Here's what I would do. I  would bake something and bring it to share.

make G F sourdough bread.

Open Original Shared Link

G F Banana bread

G F Muffins

G F Cookies

Check King Arthur's G F  recipes  or Pamela's recipes online

Flourless chocolate cake--this one makes all my gluten-eating friends swoon

Cheesecake

Lemonies

Stop thinking you cannot have yummy things. Trust me, you can.

you can, young lady...just stop it right now!!.  they create gastritis and chronic gastritis brings on intestinal lymphoma. nice thought, huh?

Yep, bringing some food along sounds like a good idea.  Maybe you need to bring more of it.  Are the other ladies just eating one or two little bites of something?  There's no reason you should limit yourself, especially when you are in the healing process.  Your body needs nutrients to heal and make new tissue.

Strangely enough, cheating has come up on the forum before..  :)

Nope didn't take a bite!! I have will power!! Because how I feel now compared to a few months ago is amazing!! Not worth it for a second!! I do need to start making Gluten Free Bread :)

Yep, things are way too good now to care very much about eating those things.  I have resorted to thanking God that I don't have to go in the restaurant and can remain feeling good!

We have 3 restaurants in our little town that we go to. I've never gotten sick there. We got to know the staff at each one and they prepare my food special. They are family owned so maybe that's why. I'm thankful I can still have date night with my husband and not get sick! And for my hamburger fix its in n out protein style ;-)

Hi, I posted before about my son's legs shaking after gluten. I did end up starting him on vit b and happily he actually started sleeping better and longer.  Back to my 4 year old. She had gone back to meltdowns, early wakes, and exhaustion. We tested everything again and her ferritin was lowish again (16) and vit d was low. After a couple weeks on supplements she is cheerful, sleeping better and looks better. The red rimmed eyes and dark circles are much better.   AND her Ttg was a 3!!!!!! So, we are crushing the gluten-free diet which is great. But WHY are her iron and vit d low if she's not getting any gluten????  She's on 30mg of iron per day and also a multivitamin and vit d supplement (per her dr). That helped her feel better quickly. But will she need supplements her whole life?? Or is there some other reason she's not absorbing iron? We eat very healthy with minimal processed food. Beef maybe 1x per week but plenty of other protein including eggs daily.  She also says her tummy hurts every single morning. That was before the iron (do not likely a side effect). Is that common with celiac?

Celiac disease is the most likely cause, but here are articles about the other possible causes:

Hi @Atl222 As @trents points out, there could be many reasons for this biopsy result.  I am interested to know, is your gastroenterologist concerned?  Also, are your blood tests showing steady improvement over the years? I remember when I had my last biopsy, several years after diagnosis, mine came back with with raised lymphocytes but no villous damage, too! In my own case, my consultant wasn't remotely concerned - in fact, he said I might still get this result even if all I ever did was eat nothing but rice and water.   My coeliac blood tests were still steadily improving, albeit slowly, which was reassuring.

Welcome to the celiac.com community, @Atl222! Yes, your increased lymphocytes could be in response to oats or it could possibly be cross contamination from gluten that is getting into your diet from some unexpected source but not enough to damage the villi. And I'm certain that increased lymphocytes can be caused by other things besides celiac disease or gluten/oats exposure. See attachment. But you might try eliminating oats to start with and possibly dairy for a few months and then seek another endoscopy/biopsy to see if there was a reduction in lymphocyte counts.
