:( My daughter, now 2 yr &3 mo, was diagnosed amost a yr ago in Feb 05. I just got her labs back and not looking good. Her IGA went from 38 and now 52. The IGG went from 100 to 80. I need help fine tuning this mess. I know she gets some gluten occassionally but I thought I was doing so much better. Any suggestions? What exactly do the labs mean at this point? Any info can help. Thanks

If she's getting gluten even at the rate of once a month, it's too much, and pretty much as though she weren't on the diet at all. Keep working on tracking down those hidden glutens and sources of contamination and double check all her food, toys, and toilettries.

My daughter also gets frequent unexplained rashed that come and go in as little as 10-15 minutes. There is nothing there, then boom, rash all over her body, head to toe. Once I was on my way to the ER with her and by time I got there (10 min tops) it was completely gone! She had nothing to eat wihtin 2 hours of this reaction. This happens at least once a week. Also she complains of knee pain. Usually when she is at the dinner table sitting for more than 10 minutes, when she gets down from the table, she will cry and say her knee hurts. She will just stand in one spot to not walk on it. This will last only for a few minutes (maybe 2-3 minutes). I know she is only 2 and it is so hard for toddlers to communicate when someething hurts them. I have had her Pediatrician test her for Rheeumatoid arthritis, but all the results came back fine. Are these just symptoms of Celiac? Or could it be something in addition to here Celiac? If so, any suggestions? I'm thinking of making a food diary for a while and see if that will help. Any insight will help , thanks

my daughter used to get head to toe rashes whenever she would play with playdough... turns out that playdough has wheat in it and not only does my daughter have Celiac, but she's allergic to wheat! Once we figured that out the rashes stopped.

I break out in rashes from artificial fragrances. I don't even have to touch something with it on it. Just being in the room with certain artificial fragrances will set me off. Most likely offender for me is very cheap perfumes that people around me are wearing... they've got so much on it's like a cloud surrounding them and if I just walk through the "cloud" of cheap perfume I break out. fun.

Hi Rebecca,

How frustrating! But it's really good they did the tests so you know to keep looking for gluten in her life. It is super important that you get ALL of it away from her. A little bit now and then will not let her body heal and will make her sick.

Get rid of the playdough. Don't let the family leave gluten things around the house. Make sure her environment if she goes to day care/whatever is gluten free. YOUR hair products and lotion needs to be gluten free. Kids this age have their hands in their mouths all the time and you know where their hands have been, lol.

Help teach her not to ever eat food that other kids and parents offer her. Tell her in simple terms what gluten free is and to ask about it with new foods. Tell her that not all pizza and muffins are gluten free, and she needs to ask you to know which is which.

The only thing you can do is systematically go through everything you put on/eat/come into contact with in and out of the house. I know it sounds overwhelming! Do a little each day, and be super aware for a while, and my bet is you'll track down a few more culprits.

Best wishes,

Merika

When my wife attempted to open the online card in the store with a cashier, it would not work. We then showed the owner the link to the card, the online receipt that I got upon purchase, and even my bank statement confirming the purchase. That did not satisfy her, since she said she needed the link to open to reveal the gift ID num. They even admitted they had a systems problem around that time.

Was the card itself lost or just the record or both?

We were flabergasted that the owner would not acknowledge a $50 e-gift card I purchased for my celiac wife. My wife tried to open it in the store and was informed there had been a system change and they could not find the record. No worries, she was told, just talk to management. Six months later, and numerous absurd back and forths, and the owner literally informs me there have been "bad actors", so she can't make good on this lost gift card. In other words, she accused me of lying and committing fraud... over $50! Please be careful with your orders and purchases here.

Yes, some people do get withdrawal from gluten but gluten withdrawal doesn't usually cause gut pain. Maybe more like general body aches and discomfort. We have articles on gluten withdrawal on this forum. You might do a search for them. Applesauce is very acidic and some brands have added vitamin C (ascorbic acid) which makes them more acidic. This can damage the stomach lining if you eat it too often. Especially if your stomach lining is already compromised. Ibuprofen inhibits the body's ability to rebuild the stomach's protective mucosal lining. That's why it can cause peptic ulcers. As strange as it may sound, low level irritation/inflammation stimulates the body to rebuild the stomach lining. There are two steps in this rebuilding process known as COX 1 and COX 2. Ibuprofen represses both COX 1 and COX 2. Celecoxcib, a prescription anti inflammatory, inhibits only COX 2, making it less likely to cause damage to the gut lining.

Do you or anyone know alot about ibuprofen  I wasn't sure if I was eating too much apple sauce.   Something is making my pain so much worse  I'm referring to the intense pins and needles in my feet and lower legs.  Jaw actually has tardive dystonia and muscle spasms throughout my back Almost like an opposite effect that a pain reliever would do. I'm fairly new to this. Whatever is going on seems to be worsening  Do people get a withdrawal effect from gluten?  It's extremely painful 😖  I'll post that question or research on the site  Thank you everyone for responding
