Sick after eating anything

Hi,

I have been having this problem for the past 9 months, now.
I wake up feeling sick every single day and it stays that way for the entire day.
I am constantly sick, but it gets worse whenever I try to eat. When I eat, roughly 5 minutes after I start ingesting food, those horrible symptoms get even worse. 

My symptoms have been dizziness, brain fog, weakness, and at times weakness in the limbs. At one point, I would even have troubles walking or standing for more than two minutes.
I have also been suffering daily headaches for the past 10 years.

This has considerably impacted every single aspects of my life because I have been sick every single minute everyday for the last 9 months.
I am very cognitively impaired and I have troubles working... When I am even able to work at all.

I have already been to the doctor. So, so many times, actually.
I didn't have any specific nutrient deficiency and my thyroid was fine. My blood glucose was fine at the time.

I started having hives when I moved to my new apartment. At first, I thought it was histamine intolerance, but even when I eat a low histamine meal, I would still get those horrible symptoms.
Actually, I even get the symptoms for eating an apple. Just, an, apple. 

I started eating less and less carbs, and yesterday I only ate green vegetables and salmon at dinner and I got horribly sick, the worst I have been in months.
The same happened during lunch when I tried to eat salmon only.

I went to the pharmacy to get a free blood sugar level testing, and it was low but I didn't eat any carbs for obvious reasons, so the pharmacy person simply explained I have hypoglycemia because that's the reason I have low glucose because eating meat only is only protein.
Yeah. Right. Thanks a lot for that, but eating carbs makes me almost pass out. -_-

I also tested my blood pressure which was a little high.
I also had a speckled (80) ANA blood test, but was negative for lupus.

I am very depressed because I am not able to get any medical help related to my symptoms.

Does any of you exhibit similar symptoms ? With every single foods ??
Have you been diagnosed with something ?
I really don't know what to do and my condition is getting worse everyday, please someone help

I already stopped eating gluten, actually, even meal that don't contain carbs still make me sick, as stated in the post.
I have also been to the doctors many times and had many blood tests ran, as stated in the post.
I also posted outside of the celiac section on purpose.

I am also not looking for doctors, which is why I finished the post by : 
"Does any of you exhibit similar symptoms ? With every single foods? "

As CyclingLady says, we're not doctors and can't give medical advice. It would be wrong to try and replicate their function remotely via posts. That said many members here have suffered either your symptoms or similar:

It could be helpful if you supplied a little more detail. For instance, just on eliminating celiac or non celiac gluten sensitivity as a cause:

Have you ever been tested for celiac? What were the results? Did your doctor run a full or partial celiac panel? When did you remove gluten from your diet? Did you notice any reaction at all when you did so? Did you thoroughly research the diet and are you 100% convinced that no cross contamination could've taken place when you removed gluten? 

Sorry if that reads like a barrage!

You mentioned this got much worse when you moved into a new apartment. IT could be a immune response to something in the building, mold, allergy, chemicals. I think your immune system could be reacting to something else in your environment. This could also be many other things, I got to admit I do find it odd about single food triggers, unseasoned and everything. If you have eliminated the chances of it being contaminated cookware, spices, or foods then I think it could also be something in your gut perhaps causing the issues. I might suggest posting about any test you have had done. A colonoscopy, or endoscopy would get you some answers if it is gut related, it could be perhaps bacteria issues, damaged intestines, polyps, blockages, or parasites. Just a few random thoughts of things. Good luck perhaps someone else can give you a bit more advice .

Look up Mast Cell Activation Syndrome and/or POTS. They are rare, but are related to some of the symptoms you are having.

did they give you any explanation for your positive ANA other than ruling out lupus? i would definitely follow that up

it might also be worth buying a blood sugar monitor so you can test when your symptoms are really bad after eating to see if low blood sugar is causing your symptoms

If I were in your situation given the timing I'd contact the appropriate local health dept. to see about having someone test your apartment.  While you may be exposed to something you are allergic to, it is also possible that your are being exposed to something that would be toxic to anyone.  For example, if the apartment had previously been used to make meth.

I live in a home and I am the only person who is sick. I found a card from Boston children's hospital saying I had celiac.

When I read @username I read it as "At username."  Sort of like Addressing an letter "To: username."

Inc, it seems to me you know one thing is wrong, your blood glucose was low when it was tested after eating no carbs.  That might be something to follow up.  You can buy a blood glucose meter for not much money and test yourself.   Does your blood glucose rise or fall when you get headaches?  Your meter can tell you.  I've read a good way to monitor blood glucose is to test before eating,1/2 an hour after eating, and an hour after eating.

You mentioned possible histamine intolerance.  Do your symptoms get better when you take an antihistamine like benadryl?  That might tell you something there.  My understanding is to get histamine levels down you need to avoid high histamine foods for several months.

Being GI sick constantly can have many causes.  Generally though if you are doing a good job being gluten-free and are celiac, you would have some improvement after 9 months.  Total recovery can take 18 months or longer though.

For celiacs we suggest eating meats, veggies, eggs and nuts for 6 months to start the gluten-free diet.  That would avoid all wheat, rye and barley and oats, which are the grains that can make a celiac sick.  Being low carb can also help with gut dysbiosis or sibo, which is a gut flora imbalance.  Probiotics and digestive enzymes can help that also.

Your muscle weakness could be related to blood pressure or glucose being low.  It could also be related to an autoimmune attack on your nerves/brain related to celiac disease.  That is something hard to test for and most doctors probably don't think of it.  People with celiac related nervous system issues may not test positive on regular celiac tests.

I suggest you stick with low carbs, no dairy, and no soy for a couple weeks.   These things can take time to figure out.  If it is a food related problem, we have to be kind of a detective.  Some things doctors aren't good at, and food intolerances are one of those things.

It sounds to me like you're responding to all things histamine, tyramine and oxalates. I've recognised a lot of what you said. Look up Dr Joneja. Open Original Shared Link

She said many struggle with oxalates also which aren't on that list. I looked those up and added them to it.

Salmon is like poison love, especially out of a can.

Make your own bone broth in a pressure cooker (long slow stock increases histamine) strain, use the bone broth to make soups, casseroles etc, add in all the vegetables and meat you can eat.

Thank you so much for all the help !!

I have completely stopped gluten and I am hoping to start seeing improvements in a few weeks, as several of you explained, I should not be expecting to see results so quickly. 

I think histamine intolerance could definitely be one of the potential culprits, because after weeks of eating a low histamine diet, I ate tomatoes 2 days ago, and it gaves me hives and over unpleasant candida related symptoms.

I am going to go buy the glucose meter today as well as a blood pressure monitor, and will start drawing graphs.

I have also read about Gluten ataxia, and it feels very close to what I have been experiencing, especially with the troubles talking, walking and sometimes forgetting how to swallow... In any cases, I completely stopped eating gluten and I will let you know how my next doctors appointment goes, but I am kind of worried about bringing up the topic anymore. I've been through a lot of "It's just anxiety" type of consultations, and I am quite scared.

Edit : I also went on a low carbs diet, which is one of the reasons I want to buy the glucose meter.

I see a lot of talk about low blood sugar. Do you remember what your sugar was (number)? Are you a diabetic? Are you on medication for diabetes, specifically glipizide and/or insulin? It's not common to "have low blood sugar" if you are not being treated for high blood sugar (unless you have a specific endocrine disorder including diabetes but there are maybe one or two others), maybe a kind of kidney disease or are in a kind of starvation mode.

Looks like this is your first post... Did you sign up to help ? Thank you so much, so so much for your help !!
I will be using that list and making sure I keep tyramine and oxalates in check as well.

I don't remember the number yet, But they told me it was low. I am going to go get a glucose meter now, and I will let you guys know. No I am not diagnosed with diabetes :/

No problems with my sugar level....I actually had no problems with my stomach issue this weekend. :)  Maybe my mom is looking out for me

You sound like my sister. Basically her stomach was fried from the gluten. Taking zantac helped to get the healing started. So it was no gluten. Improvement. After much trial and error it was also soy and dairy. But in the beginning even a glass of water created nasty symptoms. Fyi. Zantac is gluten free. Prescription zantac has gluten.

Have you had any resolve to this issue Ink? I am experiencing the same issues. Multiple tests only to have the "anxiety" diagnosis. I am rapidly losing weight as I am afraid to eat anything. I force myself to drink water which I'm the morning is hard as it makes me instantly ill. I am now having blood sugar spikes and lows due to not eating. The congnative issue after eating is insane! I feel as though if someone told me I was having a stroke I would believe them. I'm not nauseous just a general very unwell brain fog feeling of doom. Hoping all is well, Jul

      Blood tests for thiamine are unreliable.  The nutrients from your food get absorbed into the bloodstream and travel around the body.  So, a steak dinner can falsely raise thiamine blood levels in the following days.  Besides, thiamine is utilized inside cells where stores of thiamine are impossible to measure. A better test to ask for is the Erythrocyte Transketolace Activity test.  But even that test has been questioned as to accuracy.  It is expensive and takes time to do.   Because of the discrepancies with thiamine tests and urgency with correcting thiamine deficiency, the World Health Organization recommends giving thiamine for several weeks and looking for health improvement.  Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses.   Many doctors are not given sufficient education in nutrition and deficiency symptoms, and may not be familiar with how often they occur in Celiac disease.  B12 and Vitamin D can be stored for as long as a year in the liver, so not having deficiencies in these two vitamins is not a good indicator of the status of the other seven water soluble B vitamins.  It is possible to have deficiency symptoms BEFORE there's changes in the blood levels.   Ask your doctor about Benfotiamine, a form of thiamine that is better absorbed than Thiamine Mononitrate.  Thiamine Mononitrate is used in many vitamins because it is shelf-stable, a form of thiamine that won't break down sitting around on a store shelf.  This form is difficult for the body to turn into a usable form.  Only thirty percent is absorbed in the intestine, and less is actually used.   Thiamine interacts with all of the other B vitamins, so they should all be supplemented together.  Magnesium is needed to make life sustaining enzymes with thiamine, so a magnesium supplement should be added if magnesium levels are low.   Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  There's no harm in trying.

      Neither of them were anemic 6 months after the Celiac diagnosis. His other vitamin levels (d, B12) were never low. My daughters levels were normal after the first 6 months. Is the thiamine test just called thiamine?

      Yes, I do think they need a Thiamine supplement at least. Especially since they eat red meat only occasionally. Most fruits and vegetables are not good sources of Thiamine.  Legumes (beans) do contain thiamine.  Fruits and veggies do have some of the other B vitamins, but thiamine B 1 and  Cobalamine B12 are mostly found in meats.  Meat, especially organ meats like liver, are the best sources of Thiamine, B12, and the six other B vitamins and important minerals like iron.   Thiamine has antibacterial and antiviral properties.  Thiamine is important to our immune systems.  We need more thiamine when we're physically ill or injured, when we're under stress emotionally, and when we exercise, especially outside in hot weather.  We need thiamine and other B vitamins like Niacin B 3 to keep our gastrointestinal tract healthy.  We can't store thiamine for very long.  We can get low in thiamine within three days.  Symptoms can appear suddenly when a high carbohydrate diet is consumed.  (Rice and beans are high in carbohydrates.)  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so symptoms can wax and wane depending on what one eats.  The earliest symptoms like fatigue and anxiety are easily contributed to other things or life events and dismissed.   Correcting nutritional deficiencies needs to be done quickly, especially in children, so their growth isn't stunted.  Nutritional deficiencies can affect intelligence.  Vitamin D deficiency can cause short stature and poor bone formation.   Is your son taking anything for the anemia?  Is the anemia caused by B12 or iron deficiency?

      Thank you! That's helpful. My kids eat very little processed food. Tons of fruit, vegetables, cheese, eggs and occasional red meat. We do a lot of rice and bean bowls, stir fry, etc.  Do you think with all the fruits and vegetables they need a vitamin supplement? I feel like their diet is pretty healthy and balanced with very limited processed food. The only processed food they eat regularly is a bowl of Cheerios here and there.  Could shaking legs be a symptom of just a one-time gluten exposure? I guess there's no way to know for sure if they're getting absolutely zero exposure because they do go to school a couple times a week. We do homeschool but my son does a shared school 2x a week and my daughter does a morning Pre-K 3 x a week.  At home our entire house is strictly gluten free and it is extremely rare for us to eat out. If we eat at someone else's house I usually just bring their food. When we have play dates we bring all the snacks, etc. I try to be really careful since they're still growing. They also, of course, catch kids viruses all the time so I  want to make sure I know whether they're just sick or they've had gluten. It can be pretty confusing when they're pretty young to even be explaining their symptoms!
