You may want to be checked for vitamin deficiencies.  Celiac Disease causes malabsorption which results in malnutrition.  Deficiencies in different vitamins can result in different kinds of mouth sores.

Vitamin C deficiency causes sores on the gums.  Vitamins B 12, B 6, and B 3 can cause changes of the tongue and lips.  Deficiencies of minerals such as zinc, iron, and calcium can affect oral health as well.

I don't know if emuaid is gluten free, but I hope the articles help.

nancy beal,

knitty kitty has given you some good links.

But I have found Lysine helped me.

Emuaid is recommended for external use only.

here is my response from another thread.  This topic comes up often.  It is a long thread (and an old one)

so I am quoting the relevant information from now on copied form another thread.

"see this thread in spells out how I took Lysine to help my canker sores.

I hope this is helpful.

You might also have low stomach acid.  We get low in our amino acids when our stomach acid is not strong enough to digest proteins.

http://healthbeatnews.com/whats-burning-you/

from the article

"Jonathan Wright, M.D., well-known and respected holistic physician, states that “Although research in this area is entirely inadequate, its been my clinical observation that calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, copper, chromium, selenium, manganese, vanadium, molybdenum, cobalt, and many other micro-trace elements are not nearly as well-absorbed in those with poor stomach acid as they are in those whose acid levels are normal. When we test plasma amino acid levels for those with poor stomach function, we frequently find lower than usual levels of one or more of the eight essential amino acids: isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine. Often there are functional insufficiencies of folic acid and/or vitamin B12.”

Again I hope this is  helpful but this not medical advice just things I have found that helped me.

And swilling salt water (be sure spit it out and don't swallow it) helps them go away quicker and taking Lysine can help keep them away after your current bout/round of mouth sores go away.

Once or twice a day of Lsyine will keep most ulcers at bay.  Remember it is an essential amino acid and we have to eat food with enough Lysine everyday or we get low in it since our body can't store most amino acids for more than 24 hours and why supplementing with Lysine helps.

Just trying to help those, God being my help, with the things that helped me with those still suffering.

Knowledge is power pass it one."

2 Corinthians 1: 3, 4

Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;

Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

posterboy,

I also want to say if you have cracked skin on the outside of your face that is painful try some B-2 Riboflavin.

It is noted in the link thread Knitty Kitty provided in table 2.

It helped my angular cheilitis . . that I had for years and I thought I would never get rid of it.

google images of Angular cheilitis and you will see what it looks like.

It is essentially oral sores on the outside of the mouth.  from where your lips leak from the sides of the mouth.

It can be common in older people and is a sign of poor nutrition often.

Emuaid might be good for that but it (Emuaid) doesn't recommend  Emuaid for oral use though Emuaid does have Lysine in it.

They are probably only saying it out of an abundance of caution . . . but it is best only to use any product as directed.

Again I hope this is helpful.

**** this is not medical advice but taking Lysine helped me.

posterboy,

EMUAID is gluten free and safe to use internally to an extent. It's not made for consumption but it's safe to use on mucosal areas such as the inside of the mouth, nasal cavity, genitals and anus. It's a 100% natural modern homeopathic topical medicine.

I cannot tolerate it at all - triggers burning and nausea, ditto aspirin.  Here in the UK I take Paracetamol.

For back pain, I take a combination of Cobalamine B12, Pyridoxine B 6, and Thiamine B 1 (in the form Benfotiamine), which have an analgesic effect.  These three B vitamins together work way better than those over the counter pain relievers.  Theses are water soluble B vitamins that are easily excreted via the kidneys if not needed.  Thiamine will also help the nausea. @stephaniekl, welcome to the forum, Is your daughter taking any nutritional supplements?   Weight loss and failure to thrive are two symptoms of thiamine insufficiency.  Thiamine deficiency symptoms are not recognized as such by doctors.   I experienced similar symptoms when I became malnourished.  Thiamine deficiency symptoms can become worse quickly, and can affect one emotionally and mentally.  Although blood tests for thiamine aren't accurate, do have your daughter checked for nutritional deficiencies.  Thiamine B 1 works with the other B vitamins and magnesium.  Thiamine and Niacin B 3 help improve Gerd.  All the B vitamins are frequently low due to malabsorption.  Vitamin D will help calm the immune system.  Thiamine helps the immune system fight off viruses like those tick borne illnesses.   Thiamine Mononitrate, which is in many vitamin supplements, is not bioavailable.  I was taking a multivitamin containing thiamine mononitrate and still became deficient in thiamine. Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine has been shown to promote intestinal healing.  A form called TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) is also excellent for correcting thiamine deficiency.  A combination of Thiamine, Cobalamine B12, and Pyridoxine B 6 has analgesic properties.  I take it for back pain.   Keep us posted on your progress! Has prednisone or some other systemic steroid been tried that might quiet her immune system down for a while? I have two acquaintances with Lyme's disease. It is a wicked condition that has long fingers.

We have.  She is so limited as to what she can eat.  She has a nutritionist, but they are even at a loss.  Right now, her pain is so significant that she can only eat 5-10 bites a meal.   We just got some labs back today and she is hypoglycemia, anemic and her immune system is shot.  She also is positive for 3 tickborne illnesses.  Thanks for your help!
