Hi guys!

So I’m new here!

Ive been quite poorly recently & just diagnosed as celiac!

Did anyone find that they were really lethargic and generally exhausted before diagnosis? Did that change once you changed your diet?

Im dreading having to look at everything I eat & going out to eat unplanned! Advice?

:)

Read the newbie 101 thread, whole foods diet is great to start, Remove dairy (damaged villi mean you can not utilize the enzymes and properly break down dairy so it will burden your system and cause lactose intolerance) and oats (commonly CCed and some celiacs react to it) also, but I have compiled list of some safe alternatives.
Eating out is Russian roulette, try to find some local 100% gluten free restaurants if you can, a tester like Nima might be useful and the app FindMeGlutenFree, always check reviews and TELL them about your disease.

Lethargic and exhausted, yep slowly eased into that growing up....I lived off energy drinks to get a tiny bit of improvement -_-
Damaged intestines mean you have issues absorbing nutrients like Magnesium, B-vtiamins, Iron, vitamin D etc. Supplementing them helps. We also get intolerance issues with certain foods that can manifest as fatigue and you immune system is always fighting gluten when you eat it.
I use Liquid Health Stress & Energy and the Neurological Support 1 tbsp each 3 times a day, the d3 drops from them and take either Doctors Best or Natural Vitality calm for my magnesium depending on bowl habits. (if you do not go daily use Natural Vitality in a tapered dosing to tolerance method, other wise doctors best before bed)

Oh yeah simple starter ideas
Cookware, Noridware makes microave grill plates with splatter covers, omlette makers, steamers so you can avoid replacing everything in one go and they are later great for traveling/hotels.
Butcher/Freezer paper, use it for a clean safe prep area/eating mat, and makes clean up super easy
Foil Line baking sheets and dishes, crockpot liners also same purpose as abover
Easy go to meals, like omelttes, with eggs, veggies, meats. Look up Sheet pan meals, crock pot meals and ideas for gluten free stews/soups. The whole sheet pan thing is super easy and works with just salt and pepper often. Meal prep in batch cooking so you just need to pull and reheat when in a hurry is great.

Thanks Scott. They are gluten-free but cross contaminated.

Hi there @MCAyr I have a small umbilical hernia which came about during my second pregnancy.   I can just about see it, and feel it, when I stand or sit, but it is far less noticeable when I lie down.  I always know when I am putting on weight because I can get pain and burning near the site, funnily enough not on the hernia itself but either side!  I would imagine bloating could cause the same effect as weight gain. In my case I don't think it is my bowel protruding but a bit of fat  - sorry,  I realise this isn't painting a very pretty picture.  But in truth it is scarcely noticeable.  It has never really got bigger in size. I was rather hoping that it could be operated on but here in the UK they don't seem to operate on every hernia anymore.  My GP isn't remotely worried about it. In a way, I should be thankful - it is like an early warning system that I need to go on a diet! Cristiana

The hernia description would likely be unrelated to celiac disease, but you'd need to get it checked out by your doctor to be sure it's a hernia.
