Soy Allergy

I think i may have a soy allergy...can anyone give me any more information on soy allergies??? Does anyone here have and allergy to soy?

I believe what I have is an intolerance to soy.. It gives me terrible gas and cramping. It's not uncommon to be sensitive to soy.

I don't know if it's an allergy--it didn't show up on my allergy tests a couple of years ago--but I think I definitely don't tolerate it...it's one of the things I'm exploring right now. Seems that every time I eat something or drink soymilk I feel really bad.

I eliminated it from my diet because it was causing stomach cramps, gas and bloating. I tried researching how it affects females (hormonally), but didn't find anything specific on the internet yet. I am still curious though. marcia

When I eat too much soy, it feels like someone has their hands around my neck choking me (yeah it's weird). My throat closes up. My skin also breaks out (acne) and gets really itchy. I also get all the gas and cramping and stomach pains everyone else is talking about.

Ditto on the gas and painful bloating.

I always assumed it's because soy products are made from beans that I had that reaction. Then my doctor was like duh, your body is trying to tell you something.

So now I avoid the soy.

It's a total bummer because I used to enjoy decaf soy lattes at Starbucks and now I pretty much can't drink anything there - caffeine bothers me too, so coffee is out, and I'm wary of herbal tea when I can't read the ingredients first.

At least I can still eat lots and lots of rice
