What To Take For Gas And Other Things

I have the wal-mart brand of gas aid tablets. I don't have the box and was wondering if anybody knew right off hand if these are gluten-free? What does everybody take for diaheara(?). I can't use imodium(I end up in the ER when I take this) and pepto makes me sick. Any suggestions for this? Is Rolaids the only thing to take for tummy hurts? I think I read somewhere that tums are not gluten-free. Is this true? Still trying to get the hang of this med stuff. Thanks for any info. My Wal-Mart has the most informed pharmacy I have ever seen. I have asked about some other meds I take and they just blew me off! So my pharmacy really doesn't know anything.

Zantac 150's work for me when the gas it bad. It is over the counter. Hope that will help and it is gluten free.

Most products make me so constipated that I'd rather suffer with the gas. I usually curl up in bed or on the sofa with a heating pad. Lieing on your right side helps your system dispel the gas. (learned that from a nurse after major surgery)

If I understand correctly tums are not gluten-free..I use Rolaids multi symptom..for acid and gas

zantac is for acid/ulcer

The Tums website states that while they don't add any gluten to the product, they can not guarantee their suppliers. I, and some others here can't tolerate them.

For gas, I use Phazyme Softgels (the quick acting ones are NOT gluten-free). My GI told me to use them--they do work , I only use if it's particularly bad.

ebrbetty,

when you say the gas x gel caps are gluten-free. Is that the wal-mart brand or the other brand? Will have to get some phazyme gels just to have around for when gas gets bad. Haven't had too much gas since starting on the gluten-free diet. Thanks for all the info.

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
