Dreams About Food - A New Thing

I have never cared about food my whole life, basically just ate to live (EXCEPT always loved bistro dining and great food when anyone else prepared it :) ) - been gluten-free about 2 months - suddenly I'm dreaming of food nearly every night, and it's always things like brownies, cookies, fluffy desserts, hamburgers, all gluten-containing items. I never eat any of this in my dreams, even, because I know I can't.....so sad. :(

Anybody else do this now?

Susan

Me too! I have been dreaming of big fat sandwhiches. Which is funny because my whole life I would avoid sandwhiches/subs at all costs, just didnt like them. Why now do I want them? Alas, because I am not allowed :P Hope your dreams get better!

I started having dreams where I would eat my favorite (Stouffers Mac N Cheese) and wake up all mad at myself cause now I would be sick! Then, I'd have dreams and wake up sad that I couldn't eat it. The other day I had a dream about ordering at Wendy's - a baked potato and a patty... I was excited when I woke up cause that was something I could have!!

I just had my re-accuring "half way through a slice of pizza/cake/onion rings/beer when I realize" dream the other night. I always panic and try to spit it out. When I wake up it's such a relief to know it didn't really happen!

Those are EXACTLY the kinds of dreams I have!

LOL!

I just started having these a month or two ago. I dream about all different types of foods - deviled eggs (which I can now eat since I have my special mayo), guacamole, big, juicy, cheeseburgers on a big fluffy bun, etc.

It is crazy!

Wow I'm so glad to see we're all having dreams like this! I always dream that I didn't check some label or ingredients and just ate something carelessly, only to find out later that it had gluten in it! Then I spend the rest of the dream freaking out! I'm looking forward to when these stop!!

Well, keep hoping, but after 9 yrs, I still get them, but not as frequently. A month ago it was brownies. The real kind with gooey center - Don't know if it was a gluten dream or that I gave up chocolate for Lent. But it's always the same - I get mad and stick the darn thing in my mouth, then think "WHAT AM I DOING?" and then spit it out and hope there's no damage and then I'm freaking and worried. Then I thankfully wake up.

You must be dreaming in my head, because that's exactly what I do!

I had the same dream night before last for the first time ever!!! And the funny thing was, I didn't even like what I was eating. After the first few weeks of being off gluten, I stopped craving it, so I don't even want it--why the heck did I dream about it?

I guess we're all connected here, not just by this board, but in our dreams!

you can count me in with the other "half-way through tantalizing forbidden food, when i suddenly realize what i'm doing and freak out" dreamers. boo!

also, dingogirl, some of those anti-depressants can make your dreams *vivid*. how is the wellbutrin working out for you?

I dreamed one night that I ate a hot dog, bun and all--I loved hot dogs from a fire pit. I woke up literally in tears--the dream was so vivid and I just knew I was going to be so sick!!! Deb

wow Paula, good memory.

wellbutrin - not so good. Not good at all, in fact, I won't go into details, but this may be the worst I've ever felt in my whole life. And I thought going gluten-free would solve everything......*sigh* :(

Any prayers would be really appreciated. Oops - this was supoosed to be a fun thread!

My celiac hubby says he too dreams of eating the "forbidden" foods and being confused in dream or panicked because he then realizes in dream he shouldn't be eating it.

When I diet strenously, I dream of 'naughty' foods that aren't on my diet but I never get to eat the thing in my dream, I either have to drive somewhere else or go to do something else.

I guess it's the "giving up" of the food item that we can't seem to release in our brains when we sleep.

I had a dream the other night in the middle of insominia...

My dream went like this ~ I was eating Italian pastries some of which were over stuffed cannoli's, cream and puffs, napoleons, pignoli, biscotti's, sfogliatelle's. :P I was chasing down my wedding cake :D with a double cappuccino right before I stuck my finger down my throat and made myself vomit :o frightened to death I would have a seizure. I woke up thinking it was reality. I reasure myself it was just a dream cause I wasn't getting married anytime soon. HA!

My sleepless mind is playing mean tricks on me. I never had that happen before... Oh my my my!

After going gluten-free, I started having dreams about going out to dinner and eating bread from the bread basket... it tasted so good. Then, in my dream, I would remember that I couldn't eat the bread. It was a horrible feeling. I would wake up in a panic, wondering if it really happened. So far this dream hasn't come true!

My husband thinks it's really sad I can't even enjoy gluten in my dreams. This is a really interesting phenomenon - shows how similar we all are, I guess.

It's actually been a few months (I think!) since I've had one of these dreams, but I have had plenty of them, too.

I keep dreaming that someone's offering me a giant platter of cookies and brownies and I have a panic attack because I'm starving but can't eat anything in front of me.

Lol, yep, the very day I was told I had celiac, I had a dream about that warm yeast bread with the honey butter they bring to you at the steakhouse! Not funny.

Carriefaith Enthusiast

I have dreams where I am eating gluten! And I ask myself "what are you doing!"

I have increased my vitamin intake Vitamin B Complex plus 2 Thiamax, NeuroMag, Benfotiamine with breakfast. I continue reading and watching gluten free items that I eat. Breakfast is Bobs Redmill gluten-free oatmeal with Chobani zero sugar yogurt a banana and blueberries. Lunch since im at a deli gluten-free is hard to come by so I stick with turkey with gluten-free Promise bread. Dinner varies like gluten-free pasta, tacos, chicken, sausage, meat etc. rice or take out from gluten-free places. I have decided to stay away from gluten-free pizza as I feel I felt weird with it unless its store bought frozen. I am going to try to make my own gluten-free bread, Bagels. I have been good with baking gluten-free treats like cookies, muffins. Snacks if its not fruit, veggies I grab a protein bar or chocolate guilty pleasure reeses, hersheys, York PP. I am going to start to use my fitness pal app to track what I eat and note when I feel off to see if I can pinpoint if a trend of a certain gluten-free food is a culprit. I noticed once in a while I feel a little bloated, gassy that I think is from the pizza so I am going to avoid it and continue narrowing it down. I have been doing very well and I have learned even if you think you are doing everything 100% gluten-free eating it can sneak in without you knowing. This year is more traveling which im afraid of but have already looked into gluten-free places in Nashville which they have and back to Aruba I went last year and have the gluten-free places already selected. Most restaurants I have been to have been very helpful with what to stay away from to avoid CC. If a place states they don't have any gluten-free the I stick with a salad or when I took my kids to breakfast as much as I miss the breakfast this place serves I played it safe with yogurt and a fruit bowl so at least my kids were happy to go there again. Local farmers market has great gluten-free items that I treat myself to like different types of breads, baked goods. My journey continues...

After waisted time of new care team, yet again EXHAUSTED saw new gi today in Modesto, though all my ailments im not getting any kind of concern of me being celiac and sentive to just about everything since menopause. Dr daid why don't I go see you guys because my blood shows zero for celiac. I told him im glutenfree since 1994 by colonoscopy with biopsy positive celiac sprue by GI.Its RIDICULOUS when im bringing in material from this site of knowledge as well as the autoimmune institute, and  there's zero interest on their part.Medical IS causing me depression.Im view as a disability chaser, IM STILL RECOVERING from being a bus driver that im still healing and having more issues, now I may have multiple sclerosis or meningioma. Ive reached out, wrote letters, NOT feeling well. This is inhumane.

I was taking medicine for sibo but it was not agreeing with my stomach at all.Was on gabapentin but it amps me up.I was taking in morning because it wasn't allowing me to sleep. This has always been an issue with medicine and me.Even going to dentist, the good shot that numbs you once, I can't take because it makes my heart beat fast and I  get the shakes.I have to take the crappy stuff and get injected always more than 4 times always. Its infuriating
