May I suggest Toffutti Marry Me bars or fudge bars they are dairy/gluten-free and taste just like ice cream. They are the only of their ice cream type line that are GFDF. Also many of the Rice Dream ice creams are GFDF, I think Soy Delicious is as GFDF. No dairy sucks but I know where you are coming from. Philly Swirls are great.

I cant stand the taste of soy, I have tried a few now. :(

Not seen any of the rest of what you list I will have to look for them.

You know what else is good, and you can get it at the regular grocery store--Whole Fruit Sorbet. It comes in several flavors and is gluten-free/cf.

I thought Rice Dream used barly ?

gf4life Enthusiast

The rice dream beverage does contain barley, but some of the frozen treats don't.

Vincent, I am in the same boat as you. I was dairy free for 14 months and had much improved health. I went back on dairy right before Easter last year, and for a while I thought I was okay. About 6 months ago I admitted to myself that I wasn't and it took me this long to finally work up the courage to go dairy free again. I have more temptation this time around, since the kids are still on dairy.

Let me know if you need some support to stay off dairy.

For frozen treats I like to make smoothies. I freeze berries and other fruits when they are in season and then just pop them in the blender with some Vance's DariFree and a little sugar if it isn't sweet enough.

I got myself an ice cream maker and I am going to have to experiment this summer. I'll let you know if I come up with anything really good. I wonder if the Chocolate Almond Breeze might freeze into something like chocolate ice cream??

I wore out my Ice Cream maker, making real ice cream... so I will have to get a new one. I have take frozen strawberries+banana's and gotten a nice think liquid out of the blend that I bet would freeze well in an icecream maker... if I had one.

What is "Vance's Darifree"?

Vincent - you should try that Sharon's Coconut Sorbet. Sooooo good!

I certinly be willing... if I ever saw it anywere in town, which so far the only sorbet I have seen is the Whole Fruit brand that Kroger carries.

I want to try that Sharon's Coconut Sorbet also. I hope they have it at Whole Foods next time I go in. I am already figuring out how I can keep it frozen for the 1 1/2 hour drive home. :D

Vincent, Vance's DariFree is a potato based milk alternative. You can check it out here:

I wouldn't spend the money on the chocolate flavor, but the regular is really good as a chilled beverage, and works very well in cereal, and also for baking/cooking. It doesn't have a strong after taste like some of the other dairy free alternatives. I would spend the money on the mixing pitcher. It is worth the $6.25. The DariFree sort of settles at the bottom of the pitcher and you need to mix it each time you take it out of the fridge. The pitcher really helps. I know that Pampered Chef and I thing Tupperware sells a variation of this, but they charge way too much.

I used to buy the DariFree by the case, and I will probably start doing that again. I still had 4 cartons left unopened, so I will use those first. It is cheaper in the long run. If you are just trying it, then it would probably be best to try to find it either locally (it might be hard to find) or to order it online at one of the other retailers that you are already placing an order with. If you are really desperate to try it and are not placing an online order, let me know and I'll send you one of mine. ;) I'm serious.

I recently posted information on Sharon's Sorbet. I was told by the company that all their flavors are gluten free. The Coconut is not soy free. All other flavors are soy free, dairy free and gluten free. Claire

You could also try making fruit smoothies with rice or almond milk. Smoothies can be quite similar to ice cream if they are made the right way. Just add more fruit! This is my smoothie recipe:

Berry Smoothie

1 1/4 cups frozen blueberries/raspberries/mixed berries

1 to 1 ½ cups Vanilla rice milk (Natur-a riceum), or Vanilla Almond milk (Almond Breeze).

2 tablespoons of honey

THE COCONUT IS NOT gluten-free. IT ISN'T ON THE TRADER JOE LIST EITHER..DON'T KNOW WHETHER IT'S IN ONE OF THE GUMS THAT MIMICS WHEAT OR NOT...

What? I thought there was just a problem with some soy in it. I've been eating it for a couple of years with NO problems - and I'm sensitive to soy too. According to their website (Sharon's) it was gluten-free last time I looked.

I just looked at the Trader Joes lists for East Coast and West Coast and it is on both lists. It might have soy in it, but it appears to be gluten and dairy free. For me it shouldn't be a problem, because the soy is in the form of lecithin and my soy allergy does not react to the oils only the protein.

Vincent, I am sorry you have to give up something else you love, I sure know how that feels! If you hate soy milk, try almond milk. I loved it, until I found out I can't tolerate almonds, either. :(

And really try making some smoothies, experiment with different berries (fresh or frozen, fresh strawberries are great)! My youngest daughter loves making smoothies. She'll put berries, bananas, some kind of non-dairy milk (usually rice dream, but that's not gluten free), ice cubes, sometimes orance juice or other juice, and maple syrup in. You can try it with whatever you can find in the freezer or that you think would be good in it. You'll create some winners, and some not so great ones, but you'll have fun in the process. Your little guy can be your taste tester, and likely love it.

Stoped at my Kroger on way in to work, made even later then normal, but no Vance DariFree there. So eating my Cocoa Puff dry for now. Not quit the same, hehe. :(

Vincent, if you get terribly desperate for "milk" in your cereal that you can get at Kroger then you can get Mocha Mix (original), and water it down until it tastes like thin cream. It works in a pinch, but you don't want to do it for long term because it is mostly chemicals...

I think I did 2 parts water to 1 part MM.

So far 3 months in - worsening symptoms. I have had the worst constipation in my life and I am primarily eating naturally gluten-free foods like potatoes, eggs, salad with homemade dressing, corn tortillas, etc. I hate gluten-free bread and pasta so I don't eat it. Occasionally I eat gluten-free almond flour crackers. As stated in the post, I don't have any vitamin deficiency. I was already tested.

Talk to your  Talk to your provider about testing for vitamin and mineral deficiency.  celiac disease causes malabsorption and eventually malnutrition.  Especially vitamin D. Having the gallbladder removed seems to be a common step on the way to a Celiac Disease Diagnosis,  Gallbladder is a sympton of deficient Choline. Eggs and red meat are the primary source..Choline makes up a majority of the bile salts.  The bile gets thick, doesn't get enough into intestine to digest fats well.  Can eventually back up into gallbladder, cause gallstones.  Without bile, bowel movements can become hard. Try to avoid all processed foods while you are healing, The gluten-free foods are not fortified with vitamins and use various ingredients to mimic fat that bothers many Celiacs.  Choose vegatables with low omega 6.  Optimum omega 6 to omega 3 ratio is less than 3:1.  Wheat flour is 22:1.  Grass fed milk is 1:1.   Commercial Dairies milk is 5:1.  They feed wheat, rye and barley Gluten as part of the food mix.

Your DGP-G is also high. The thing to do now would be to trial the gluten-free diet for a few months to see if there is improvement in symptoms.

Welcome to the forum, @Roses8721! How long were you off gluten before getting the celiac blood testing done? The testing is not valid after having been gluten free for a significant period of time. Many of your symptoms align with celiac disease.
