Some upset tummies today, but so far nothing real bad.

Hopefully you and Rachel will get some answers from the pee test.

Good Andrea, I hope it doesn't get any worse than that for you all.

evie- I didn't get the chance to say how much I love your new picture, so good to finally put a face to your name!!

Chelse- head down to the Rachelville 2 thread! And you too were useful. We learned a lot about your gluten challenge and anemia, and and...how instrumental out purple glittery bats are.

I might try some polenta. Thanks for the suggestion Leah and miamia

Also thanks Leah for the post on the lime in the tortillas. I am not suppose to have citrus either and all corn tortillas have a trace of lime, I seem to do ok with them so your post makes sense.

As far as the corn bread goes, I think soda and baking powder are fine, I have a list that says small quantities of eggs in a baked product is usually tolerated for a low histamine diet. The liquid might be a problem...

Ok...so its almost the end of the day and my big orange jug is soooo not full....as predicted. In fact....I barely reach the lowest measuring line on the jug. <_<

I hope this is gonna be enough for them to find all the histamines.

Miamia, is yours half way full? The directions say drink less than normal...I hardly drink anything while I'm at work so I'm actually drinking more today than normal and still...I got a near empty jug.

I really should drink more water. I can never do it though. 8 glasses a day...maybe I would feel better??

There was just a thread on this! I'm a water advocate, myself, but there was some dispute...

Yes you should drink more water. Some scientificness:

Drinking water helps nearly every part of the human body function. Considering that our flesh vessels are almost 50-80% water, depending on how much body fat you have, understanding its important role in our lives can be a fountain of health. Water makes up more than 75% of your brain, 80% of your blood and 70% of lean muscle. Absolutely every system in the human body depends on water. H2O regulates body temperature, removes wastes, carries much-needed oxygen and nutrients to your cells, helps cushion your joints, prevents chronic constipation, alleviates the burden on your already-stressed kidneys and liver, helps reduce headaches and dizziness, aids in digestion and dissolves vitamins, minerals and other nutrients so you can utilize them better.

Yeah...and I actually do feel better when I make a consious effort to drink more. Well....except for when I drink massive amounts all at once and disturb the alien baby....then I dont feel so good. :(

I completely agree. Here's the thread:

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

That's the thing about drinking water, not too little, not too much. A happy medium, imo at least.

Oooh I found some more scientificness about histamine and uticaria (hives) and angioedema:

Urticaria and angioedema symptoms result primarily from the physiological actions of histamine. Some individuals with urticaria have a decreased ability to degrade dietary histamine before it enters the circulation. Foods high in histamine, such as fermented foods, may exacerbate urticaria and angioedema in these individuals. Certain food additives may increase endogenous release of histamine and urticaria and angloedema symptoms

Plasma histamine, an important mediator of urticaria (hives) and angioedema, may be increased by diet through two mechanisms. First, under normal conditions, dietary histamine is degraded in the intestine by mucosal diamine oxidase enzyme (DAO); this prevents histamine's entry into the circulation. However, in chronic urticaria, DAO activity is decreased (1) and dietary histamine may increase plasma histamine (2). Second, certain foods and food additives may increase the endogenous release of histamine (3,4); this results in increased plasma histamine.

All very interesting to me since I have angioedema, but you know how many posts I come across on this board about people having hives/uticaria? It all has to relate somehow to the digestive process, lowered/heightened immunity, multiple food intolerances/allergies ...

And another thing, through my research I found out that meds for heart burn/reflux/GERD are mostly H2 blockers, as in histamine 2 blockers.

Duh, duh, duh....

Wow, you even "Rachel" water!

ROFLMAO!!

That almost made me spit out the water you guys have inspired me drink now.:lol:

Ummm...no I dont usually pull a Rachel with the water...it was a requirement for my ultrasound. I had to do it twice so far. They want you drinking 40 oz. of water an hour before the test. Then you have to hold it for over an hour until they let you relieve yourself. Not fun I tell you. <_<

Actually I was really sick when I was pregnant & when they told me it was twins, my first thought was "Thank God, I'll never have to go through this again!" (I really wanted 2 kids.) Of course the extreme nausea was probably from my undiagnosed Celiac.

Yeah...I used to think it would be the greatest thing...having twins. Not so much anymore though. One please. :D

That'll be fine for me.....two at once would wear me out for sure.

Ok Rachel-

I just had my blood work done and dropped off my orange jug o'pee . Mine was pretty full. I drink alot during the day normally. You should too. the best thing to do is to drink water beween meals, but less with meals becasue if you drink alot while you eat you wash away the enzymes and acids you need for digestion and we now you and i don't have the best digestive systems as is.- Hope this is helpful.

Your urine collection reminds me of the hell I went through last year doing the stool collection in a paint can! When the doctor said to me to collect everything in a paint can (which they so generously provide), I said "Ah, I think I need more than one paint can". He didn't believe me, but said to pick up two anyway. Sure enough, 24 hours later and 1 and 1/2 cans later, I proved him wrong! Man, I really, really felt sorry for whoever worked in that lab and had to open up those cans! Can you spell T-O-X-I-C?????

Anyway, when I went back to see him, he said that the volume of diarrhea that I had was almost double what the maximum normal amount usually is......... I refrained from saying "I told ya so........."

Rachel,

It is very intresting ,the histamine test,so if you have elvevated histamine level,(I guess ,you would)

what is the next step.? do you have any plan?

by the way your idieas and theories are wonderful.

Penguin -- you're leaving the thread ----- :(:(:( Why?

Weekend went well, dad seems normal, but tells me he is in a lot of pain.

I have too many pages to catch-up on. What is this about a Rachelville 2 thread?

Ok, I had a pre-mature post ---

I found the other thread.

:) Hi All! I am recovering from the trip. Not good at all. Celia, your post/quote was so beautiful, it made me cry.

Rachel, you have helped me so much on this thread and I am sorry, I was one of the culprits who was a little too wacky and didn't stay on topic enough. :(

I have had so many "aha" moments on here. I would be forever questioning my own sanity had it not been for others who, to my astonishment, have the same or similar symptoms as I do. Corn, sweet potatoes, beans, tapioca, some waters, etc. have all been problems for me and when I read that someone else has the same problems and is looking for the answers too, well it is like finding a long lost sister (or brother). It makes you feel not so alone, miserable and nutty.

I am so glad to know all of you.

Celia, the coffee--I have been so sick the past three days, but a cup of coffee and (sorry) a nicotine fix along with immodium has kept me from wanting to end it all, (kidding only a little  )

Mia, and Rachel, the pee jug is also used for kidney function testing-diabetics regularly have these too. Half my family at one point or another has a pee jug in the 'fridge, lol.

Judy -when you had your pee experience, they probably gave you a diuretic of some sort. I am sorry it was so miserable for you, but honestly it made me laugh and dear one, I NEED all the laughs I can get right now.

This whole miserable disease has got me so low I can see worm belly. It is also a non-fun dysfunctional-fam thing type depression thingy that I will survive  (lots of wordage there, lol)

Thank you for the prayers for the safe trip. All I can say is the angels must have been watching over us, cause we had so many near misses. I vow to stay home for a good long time, lol.

Love, R

Good morning everyone, I haven't been able to post on this thread for a couple of days, from my computer, and this is a test.

Hi Rinne,

Do you know about Rachelville 2 thread?

Your post demonstrates the profound frustration and isolation that so many in the Celiac community feel, and I want to thank you for channeling that experience into advocacy. The medical gaslighting you endured for decades is an unacceptable and, sadly, a common story, and the fact that you now have to "school" your own GI specialist speaks volumes about the critical lack of consistent and updated education. Your idea to make Celiac Disease a reportable condition to public health authorities is a compelling and strategic one. This single action would force the system to formally acknowledge the prevalence and seriousness of the disease, creating a concrete dataset that could drive better research funding, shape medical school curricula, and validate the patient experience in a way that individual stories alone often cannot. It is an uphill battle, but contacting representatives, as you have done with Adam Gray, is exactly how change begins. By framing it as a public health necessity—a matter of patient safety and protection from misdiagnosis and neglect—you are building a powerful case. Your voice and your perseverance, forged through thirty years of struggle, are exactly what this community needs to ensure that no one else has to fight so hard just to be believed and properly cared for.

I had no idea there is a "Louisville" in Colorado!😉 I thought it was a typo because I always think of the Kentucky city--but good luck!

Navigating medication safety with Celiac disease can be incredibly stressful, especially when dealing with asthma and severe allergies on top of it. While I don't have personal experience with the HealthA2Z brand of cetirizine, your caution is absolutely warranted. The inactive ingredients in pills, known as excipients, are often where gluten can be hidden, and since the FDA does not require gluten-free labeling for prescription or over-the-counter drugs, the manufacturer's word is essential. The fact that you cannot get a clear answer from Allegiant Health is a significant red flag; a company that is confident its product is gluten-free will typically have a customer service protocol to answer that exact question. In situations like this, the safest course of action is to consider this product "guilty until proven innocent" and avoid it. A better alternative would be to ask your pharmacist or doctor to help you identify a major national brand of cetirizine (like Zyrtec) whose manufacturer has a verified, publicly stated gluten-free policy for that specific medication. It's not worth the risk to your health when reliable, verifiable options are almost certainly available to you. You can search this site for USA prescriptions medications, but will need to know the manufacturer/maker if there is more than one, especially if you use a generic version of the medication: To see the ingredients you will need to click on the correct version of the medication and maker in the results, then scroll down to "Ingredients and Appearance" and click it, and then look at "Inactive Ingredients," as any gluten ingredients would likely appear there, rather than in the Active Ingredients area. https://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/

What you're describing is indeed familiar to many in the Celiac community, especially in the early stages of healing. When the intestinal villi are damaged from Celiac disease, they struggle to properly digest and absorb fats, a condition known as bile acid malabsorption. This can cause exactly the kind of cramping and spasms you're seeing, as undigested fats can irritate the sensitive gut lining. It is highly plausible that her reactions to dairy and eggs are linked to their higher fat content rather than the proteins, especially since she tolerates lean chicken breast. The great news is that for many, this does improve with time. As her gut continues to heal on a strict gluten-free diet, her ability to produce the necessary enzymes and bile to break down fats should gradually return, allowing her to slowly tolerate a wider variety of foods. It's a slow process of healing, but your careful approach of focusing on low-fat, nutrient-dense foods like seeds and avocado is providing her system the best possible environment to recover. Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal. This article may be helpful: Thank you for sharing your story—it's a valuable insight for other parents navigating similar challenges.

I had a very rough month after diagnosis. No exaggeration, lost so much inflammatory weight, I looked like a bag of bones, underneath i had been literally starving to death. I did start feeling noticeably better after a month of very strict control of my kitchen and home. What are you eating for breakfast and lunch? I ignored my doc and ate oats, yes they were gluten free, but some brands are at the higher end of gluten free. Lots of celics can eat Bob's Red Mill gluten-free oats, but not me. I can now eat them, but they have to be grown and processed according to the "purity protocol" methods. I mail order them, Montana Gluten-Free brand. A food and symptoms and activities log can be helpful in tracking down issues. You might be totally aware, but I have to mention about the risk of airborne gluten. As the doc that diagnosed me warned . . Remember eyes, ears, nose, and mouth all lead to your stomach and intestines.  Are you getting any cross contamination? Airborne gluten? Any pets eating gluten (they eat it, lick themselves, you pet them...)? Any house remodeling? We live in an older home, always fixing something. I've gotten glutened from the dust from cutting into plaster walls, possibly also plywood (glues). The suggestions by many here on vitamin supplements also really helped me. I had some lingering allergies and asthma, which are now 99% gone. I was taking Albuterol inhaler every hour just to breathe, but thiamine in form of benfotiamine kicked that down to 1-2 times a day within a few days of starting it. Also, since cutting out inflammatory seed oils (canola, sunflower, grapeseed, etc) and cooking with real olive oil, avocado oil, ghee, and coconut oil, I have noticed even greater improvement overall and haven't used the inhaler in months! It takes time to weed out everything in your life that contains gluten, and it takes awhile to heal and rebuild your health. At first it's mentally exhausting, overwhelming, even obsessive, but it gets better and second nature.
